There is a benefit of BFR that’s being ignored here. It’s not just for rehabilitating strength or soft tissue of the injured site. The metabolites created, especially HGH, travel everywhere in the body and help rebuild muscle, connective tissue, bones, and organs, including the brain. This is particularly important because it means that no matter where one places the BFR bands for exercises, metabolites will provide benefit anywhere. If one knee is injured, exercise the other knee with BFR both for the spillover effect and for the metabolic stress. Also use the bands on the upper arms and do upper body work, providing whole body benefits. Obviously, if a patient is capable of doing light weight/high rep exercises and can achieve a pump (which also produces metabolites), they can do that. Most patients, though, would fare better with BFR. When to start? Arguably, the sooner the better.
I had a bucket handle repair and a quad tendon acl reconstruction Tuesday, I’m in the process of looking into getting a physical therapist I don’t have any recommendations so if you know any good ones in central florida I will drive 💪🏽
Interesting the relationship of BFR and swelling. You would think right after surgery, BFR would make the knee even more angry since there's swelling in there, thus slowing your progress.
