- Today, is the anniversary of the first flight of the F8F-1 Bearcat and, in honor of this AMAZING super prop, I gave it a go and had some VERY good performances. The F8F-1B Bearcat is, quite simply, one of the most impressive prop planes in all of War Thunder.

I found this BR pretty fun tbh
So many good aircraft but sadly right now is infested of Ju 288s where this BR is now turn into SL Farming Experience either chasing bomber or destroying bases lmao

Yeah, I realize this was 6 months ago but this problem is only getting worse. In the process of trying to have fun grinding the p-51 it was just “chase the ju288 for 30 minutes” luckily it was during the aa glitch so I killed so many on the airfield

IRL it had no such overheating issue
Never leave a burning Ju-288 alone, except it’s a engine fire
this plane is probably my favorite prop in the entire game and its a strong contender for vehicle in general too.

Honestly, 4 20mms are prefectly fine without extra drag.

Especially the gameplay with different vehicles gives me ideas on what vehicle to play next.
both of the F8F props are among my favourite planes. I have not played them since I started the grind for the A10 5 months ago. Small matches were the norm at that time though. The 288 has crippled German air power by being continuously spammed. 3 out of 5 matches were 6 or 8 on a side. Along side the P51H and the cannon Corsair this used to be my favourite Br range. Even when playing the 109K4 I would have a lot of fun. 288 changed all of that.

when fighting a 288 they will always put out a fuel tank fire, but an engine fire will basically never go out.

ive beeen really struggling with the f8f-1a and the 4 .50 cals paired with my terrible aim don't make a good combo lol
Tankenstein, what gun convergence do you prefer for US props?
I'm not Tankenstein but I use 600m/no vertical adjustment. It's perfect for the 50cal laser beams and US cannons and fits my play style nicely.
Get the gun pods, hurts performance slighly but alot more useful firepower
i dont know where you get the idea that these guns dont take down bombers well these guns are the best prop guns in game they hit hard, and 288s are notorious for putting fires out
i noticed lagging the last few days maybe the ta152 had that problem and didn't see you til it was too late but has anyone else noticed lagging ?

If you are hunting Ju 288c, Grab the MG.
Sadly you wont be able to approach a 288 any other way and getting up behind them is a bitch in itself.

Guys i can assure you this is one of the worst prop fighters in war thunder. There's a reason you never see them in a match. And I don't care that you do well in it just because you head on everything and have Ju-288 spam for free kills. This plane is just too slow and too bad at climbing to be of any real threat to the enemy. It is almost exactly what the F6F is like, slow and kind of turns well. Also this thing overheats for no reason.
yeah the 5.3 one sucks even more, 4 50cals ain't gonna do shit to anything
