Fun to learn from you BEFORE doing this myself, thanks! Did you use a broom handle or something to hold the hood up or was the other hinge/spring enough? I got my replacement hinge from junkyard. It has the springs on it fully loaded. By opening the donor hood wide open the hinge came out without any further widening so I think it'll go in the same without having to undo the springs.
A broom handle is a good idea, I actually used my head to prop it up while working, at least until I got the hinge in place. and yes installing a fully loaded hinge should be much easier to install, good repairing..
I just found a set of these on Ebay that I purchased. My right side had broke. I know now you're suppose to lubricate these. Do you have any suggestions on the best way to do that? Thanks for the video btw.
Hey Jason, you're welcome, but if you have or can get some white lithium grease, that works very well, if the joints are really tight, yon can start with some WD40 or equivalent first, then add the lithium once its freed up, as for the adjustments, that's done after its installed, as in my video, good luck with that.
Hej, there ist the "shim-trick" to remove the spring: th-cam.com/video/_bJL-yRLnBo/w-d-xo.htmlsi=bBHXeIed_13uFohZ&t=65 the hinges will (almost only then) bend upwards if they are not lubed, like the one in your clip, they all do. Wind-damage will look different - never heard of one though. To hold the hood open, rest it with its corner on a folded towel or something, and use a long stick standing on the pavement through the motorbay on the side you are working on. Also, treat the area araound the bolts before reassembly. Greetings from Germany
