  • Two Second Rule? - EASILY Judge Your Following Distances When Driving// The 2-second rule. As the car in front passes a fixed point, such as a sign or a bridge, start to say ‘only a fool breaks the 2-second rule’ at a normal rate. It takes about 2 seconds to say, so if you pass the same fixed point before you’ve finished saying it, you’re too close and should leave more room. In wet conditions, this gap should be at least doubled. In icy conditions, it needs to be increased even further.

    You are a great instructor. If I had had one like you during my lessons I would have passed much easier. Many people here in Eastern EU ignoring the following distance and tailgating you apart from the slow moving traffic. For example in town the max speed limit is 50km/h 30 mph but i was forced to go 60km/h because that person was 2meters from me behind, which makes me so frustrated. I try to keep the distance from everyone, but you can not avoid idiots in the street. Just 1 request please make pedal cam or footcam footages about pedal usages, clutch controls. That would be really helpful for us.

    Drive a third slower than the speed limit in wet weather and two thirds slower than the speed limit in snow and ice. That will work a treat.

    Here in Finland 2 seconds would be way too close in the driving exam. As a driving instructor myself, i use a 5 second minimum rule. In some cases that 5 seconds isnt enough. Once i knew there were several large styrofoams pieces fallen of a truck on a highway in advance, and went to that same place all day with all learning drivers, using that 5 second gap. They just froze and didnt react before hitting the styrofoams. The styrofoam was painted with army camouflage and looked like something you really dont want to hit. The learning drivers decided 5 seconds isnt enough. With 2 seconds they wouldnt have known what happened.

    Hi mate, i have my test in 6 weeks and my instructor says my general driving is at test standard my only.down fall is my roundabouts which is what we are going to working on over the next 15-18 hours of lessons i have planned. Do you have a video in regards to roundabouts, thanks.

    • @seekerofknowledge6595
      @seekerofknowledge6595 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Damn that's too long to be just working on roundabouts. I don't know but it seems like the instructor is stretching the lessons quite a lot, but I don't expect anyone to be *that* bad that they need 15+ lessons on roundabouts. But everyone is different I guess.
      But anyways here's a few videos which I hope you will find useful:

      2. th-cam.com/video/eGZfiOydW8A/w-d-xo.html

      Hope it helps.

      @@seekerofknowledge6595 sorry i should have explained it better, my test date is the 20th of May. In that time i have 3 hours of lessons every week to maintain the high standard of driving required to pass. This is my personal preference as i like to always keep my confidence high which will potentially help come test day. As for the roundabouts they will be covered also in this time period along with everything else.
      Thank you kindly for the links to videos, will be a great help bud.

      annonomouse I think your instructor is using you for your money within my 2nd lesson me and most other people are able to drive home on normal roads including a dual carriageway I suggest bringing this up with your instructor and get a new instructor or go with a driving company such as Red Driving School as my self

    • @Sampy1997
      @Sampy1997 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think you should change instructors. Normally we all start preparing for test by acknowledging test routes around this stage. Just because the roundabouts didnt go well once doesnt mean you should go a step back to quiet roads again. I think your instructor is just making money out of your weakness. Instead he should've ensured your progressing in each and every lesson. We all approach roundabouts, but what's the theory behind the quiet roads? Find a reputated driving instructor who can actually teach you the basics as well as motivate and inspire you to become independant until and after you pass your test. I'm telling you this because my first driving instructor kept me confused for 10 months almost 3 years ago and I only knew the basics and not even near to test standards as I was forced to take the same route every lesson! I've recently passed with my 3rd driving instructor with 7 months of lessons.

      Don't worry you'll be fine. I was nervous on my first test which resulted in me failing, but 3 weeks later I passed on my second attempt and it has made me into a better driver. Just keep calm and keep recapping what you've learnt and acknowledge your weaknesses from your previous test and turn them into strengths. It's all experience.
