I love going for a run in the morning on the weekends. Week days I'm unable because I have to get up at 4am for work. But on the weekends it's a must. Sets me up for the whole day. Love it.

I used to be a running commuter during the colder months, and biking during the warmer months. I always felt energized, even when running during sub zero temps. Now that I'm retired I enjoy coffee and walking in the early morning, then run and or do a gym workout mid afternoon.

This is exactly what I needed to motivate myself keep on running these cold days. Thank you. For the first time in my life I didn’t stop running trainings for cold period.

My runs feels the best on a empty stomach, so it makes sense to run in the morning before breakfast :)

It makes sense that I only drink isotonic drinks before long runs and add caffeine during intervals. Just plain water before an easy run

Loved the shots of you running in the snow in the woods!
Weirdly enough I'm a morning runner too. But I am not a morning person at all. But I realised it can actually give me energy for the day instead of takin it away. Don't know how that works but it does. As someone with chronic depression running in the morning also helps my mood a lot. Jut the part to get my butt out of the door can be a challenge. But since I can't eat before running, I will go out in case I want to eat breakfast.
So weird because I'm a night owl, hate mornings, don't want to see anyone and don't want to move. But somehow that works.

Not so sure about all this although I appreciate we are all different. Firstly, I think the secret to a successful day lies in tackling the stuff you really don't want to do first: It makes the rest of the day go easier and since running is what I want to do leaving it to later as a reward makes sense. Secondly, during the winter at least, i'm at or on my way to work when the sun rises and running before dawn is really depressing. Thirdly, I understand there are plenty of studies suggesting physical exercise is most difficult early in the morning due to blood thickness and other issues. You would know more about that than me. However, in terms of quality I can't believe there are too many top athletes who do their quality workouts straight out of bed and not too many world records get set as the sun is coming up. I'm certainly not a top athlete but my 5k and 10k bests are all evening races.

I made habit to transfer myself to work by bike or running and I am shifting it during the week so I do not have to run twice per day. Works for me - no over training. I am looking forward to spring when I can go to work during sun rise. Now days it is in dark and cold with head lamp. I can see here one disadvantage - I use my hype from running for employer and than is less left for my 4 kids and wife at afternoon. When I run from work I am much more relaxed and easy going at home 😃 But you are totaly right, colleagues, which go by bus/car are far from awake until 8am. If my morning run counts to my office work hours- that would be HUGE benefit!

  • @jk6561

So true, but in a lot of businesses being seen to be at your desk is important to some employers even if the employee is not productive. I cycle to work sometimes and that is uusally uphill with a headwind so counts!

Starting to run to the office has been very nice, indeed feel much better during the whole day. However it's getting a bit boring running the same route over and over again (Ring 2 Oslo), so also important to switch things up every now and then!

That's what I've been doing for the past (going to 2 years) now, run before I go to work. I always try to sneak in 30, 45 minutes to 1 hour run, take a cold shower and work. Even if my shift is set to 2 pm, I still manage to run. Sometimes after a race, 10K, half mary or a marathon, I still go to work 😅 🏃

Running early morning for me is:
    - high cortizol level and that unpleasant feeling of not wanting to do something,
    - stiffness in legs and back,
    - feeling of cold.

the one part of winter that sucks is that you wake up in the dark. drive to work in the dark, sit in office during the day, drive home in the dark. There is very little sun in general due to the weather but no matter what happens you wont see it for about 6 months in a year.

@goranwinblad Do you run while fasting, or do you have food before? If so, what kind of food? I really want to start the habit of running in the morning, but I always feel low in energy halfway through my run.

  • @alfredberggren5985
    @alfredberggren5985 หลายเดือนก่อน

I don’t like to run in tge morning before breakfast because it burns a lot of fat, and I’m a skinny guy. U also have less energy before breakfast. And if the first thing u do is running then u will be stiff and it will be harder to warm up. So then u have to warm up even more to not get injured. I am not a morning runner at all, but I’m happy it works for some ppl.

    • @noone-ld7pt

I think muscle glycogen storages will keep you going for over an hour even on an empty stomach, so anything but a long run should be completely fine. And even then you'll just start burning fat instead, but it'll obviously be significantly more uncomfortable at that point when you hit the famous wall.

I recently did a 19 mile long run in the morning without any fuel or anything and felt fine. Wasn't even hungry afterward. I think if I had to go another hour I would probably start to get uncomfortable but for me at least I've never experienced issues with that on any run/workout in the morning
