I met Jani once. He was a genuinely nice guy. He treated me like i was a longtime friend and not for a second did he act like he was famous. Honestly miss him, great musician
Ive heard he was a nice bloke and different to his contemporaries in that respect.
Such a sad loss. I loved Warrant.
Me too. Nice guy! ❤
The best type of people! Often people forget they are human too.
It goes to show you even famous people have problem's very sad bc everything I have ever read or watched about Jani everyone said he was a stand up guy. I hope I get to see you on the other side Jani.

I dated, and am still close friends with someone that filled in for him after he passed. He was just a really good hearted, humble man. He left way too soon.
I heard Jani kept in his pocket a note. “ I am Jani Lane “.
This was how bad his alcoholism was. A hotel room. Sigh.
Partied with them in Rocklahoma in 2000.

Just curious, are you talking about Jamie St. James?

Love me some Jani Lane. Sorry for his pain that made him think he wasn't loved. His baby girl had to grow up without him.
Scott on tape did a video on him were he died some hotel location but not his grave all i no
@@hotnerd8428 yes he tried to call ex band mates ex wife and nobody wanted to talk to him so he just checked out. They didn't say to much because Maddie was still to young to know all that. She is grown now. She did a cover of a couple of his songs.
@@hotnerd8428 When Scott did his video Jani didn’t have a grave to visit. He was cremated and his ashes were with his wife and daughter at that time. When this video showed up that Lamont had found a grave for Jani, I was so happy to know there was now somewhere to go to pay respects.
I didn’t realize his wife had sadly passed in 2020 which is just gut wrenching. May Kimberley Nash rest in peace🕊️My condolences go out to his daughters Taylar Jayne Lane & Madison Michelle Lane🙏🏻 Taylar Jayne Lane’s mother is Bobbie Jean Brown and Madison Michelle Lane’s mother is Rowanne Brewer. Just wanted to clarify that my condolences to Jani’s daughters is for their loss of their dad. Jani’s 3rd wife Kimberly Nash had no children with Jani.

@@gmoney4577 Incredibly. My precious brother lost that battle…I miss him immensely.
It's so sad that Jani had to die alone in a hotel room. A note (not written by him) that read "I am Jani Lane." was found on his body. I had no idea his wife died.
Who wrote the note? Could've swore Lamont already did a video outside of the hotel where Jani died? Maybe it was another TH-camr.
@@vicvega3614 I think that was Scott On Tape.
@@vicvega3614Scott on tape did a video outside the hotel where he died. I watched that one also.
@@vicvega3614 - To this day, no one knows or atleast said publicly who the person is. Presumably it’s whoever was with him last. They might be afraid they’d be held responsible in some way for Jani’s death. Therefore they have not come forward with admitting they wrote the note
@@MelicaEighty8 WOW that's really messed up. you would think if there was a note on him that said that and he didn't write it, that they would be an investigation. That sounds like something that was foul play or something very strange. Why was his death and that note not further investigated. so people say that he died alone in hotel room yet it seems like there were someone else there. obviously, if the note was written by someone else,!! Heaven was one of the more beautiful songs I ever heard I still love it Jani Lane was very talented I still listen to their music Rest in Peace Jani Lane
It really was the great love ballad during those days, and a great song.
Omg you don’t even know how much you have made a dream of mine. When I was 12 years old Warrant was coming out and my crush of my life is Jani. They came to a record store here in Baltimore and I met Jani and made A T-shirt for him to sign and I told him I love him so much and he came around the signing table and gave me the biggest hug and kiss on my cheek. He spent a few minutes talking with me and he was so genuine about the fact that he was loved. He said to always be his biggest fan and he thanked me. He was the sweetest guy ever and I still love him and he always will be my favorite singer and songwriter. He was so underrated with his song writing and feelings that comes out. He was a very talented musician who had unfortunately had demons and depression but he couldn’t stay sober. I was crushed with his downfall. I was always praying that he could overcome his addiction to alcohol and I was devastated when he died. I watched every episode of Wives of rock and Bobbi Brown Janis first wife and he had a daughter with her was on the show. She wrote 2 books and they are amazing. She said that when Jani was younger and began to be around other rock stars and a famous rock star actually Raped him and he never mentioned it and he was never able to overcome that. I love you forever Jani
That was quite a twist at the end
Jesus
Jani was married to Bobbie Brown and they had a daughter. Jani got married a second time and they had a daughter. Both marriages only lasted a few years. I saw Warrant with Jani Lane around 30 years ago at a night club that doesn't exist anymore. Went in before the show and talked to Jani and he was a very nice and down to earth human being. He talked to you as a person and not as a musician or a rock star. He didn't have the "I'm a musician. I'm better than you" attitude. And, after the concert, myself and a few other people hung out with him until 4 in the morning. Then I saw Warrant in 2023 with the new lead singer they have had for a long time and they still do "Cherry Pie" "Heaven", etc.
I worked a job in the mid 90s, my boss said I grew up with Jani Lane, i was like yea whatever man, well they had a concert in town, my boss ask would I like to go with him. Well guess what, we got back stage I got to meet him, I was blown away. Was really a nice guy him and my boss Eric caught up on old times. It was so interesting just how normal he was.
@@Turbogn87 He was a normal guy and a super nice guy. When I met him, there were two songs Warrant put out that was done acoustic and I asked him about that and I remember him telling me one was the record company’s idea and one was his idea. I will always cherish the time I spent with him.
I may be biased but I just don't think I have any interest in hearing someone else sing heaven
Warrant came to Mcguire AFB, NJ during Desert Storm and played for us in one of the hangars.
It was excellent
Jani Lane was a great musician and sounds like a very nice guy. Breaks my heart he was assaulted. I have no doubt that added to his addiction. RIP
I saw Warrant live, they opened up for Poison. That was an amazing concert.
I miss the 80’s… they were a fantastic time to be alive! Rest in peace, Jani!
Warrant's second album was originally called "Uncle Tom's Cabin". However Columbia Records, Warrant's label, listened to the whole album and did not hear a potential hit single. So they told the band they needed something like Aerosmith's "Love In An Elevator" so the band, in one night, wrote and recorded "Cherry Pie". Next thing Cherry Pie the album came out as well as the single. Another story Jani mentioned was they visited Columbia Records and there was a poster behind the secretary of the Cherry Pie album cover. Next time Warrant released Dog Eat Dog and the secretary had Alice In Chains "Dirt". And everything changed.
What a very very sad grave
Lamont, Jani was dropped off at that hotel by someone who left him without a wallet or I.D except for a piece of paper in his pocket that said his name. Whomever dropped him off there, knew he had a problem with alcohol. It was an awful way for such a nice man like Jani to have gone. All alone in a hotel room deep in his alcoholism. I met Jani way back in the early 90’s in Toronto before a show and let me say what a nice, kind humble man he was. He deserved better than this😢
Yes. Tragic!!😭😭😭
True yes he did, but think if you are a bartender closing down for the night. The guy refuses to get in the taxi, refuses an ambulance. Has no money or anything in his pockets. I have known people at the end of alcoholism and stayed awake , while the slept off a drunk so they wouldn’t die in their sleep. Because after so many times the ambulance is not too keen on taking a drunk fighting guy who refuses treatment.
The person who left him could have called the police for a welfare check , maybe it would have been easier to get him to the hospital if the popo couldn’t wake him. I am sorry he couldn’t be helped ,but he had it very bad for a long time. Yes, I am very sorry for his daughter & the world ,they lost a good man, too soon.
@@blazefairchild465it's very tragic. But eventually it would be cirrhosis of the liver. If it wasn't already getting to that point already.
RIP Jani ❤
@@ChasingRainbows67 true alcohol damages so much a friend of mine passed away from mouth & throat cancer his mom had kidney cancer, they were both told it was from alcoholism. Sad stuff.
@@blazefairchild465 From what I understand he was dropped off there as in to not have to deal with him. I have spoken to his first wife Bobbie Jean Brown and she has said that whomever did this to him did him a disservice and knows what they did was wrong. No, I.D, no money, no wallet just a piece of paper in his pocket that said his name. No one did a welfare check on him sadly. The staff had housecleaning go around as they do and when the cleaning lady entered she saw a body back facing the door where she entered. She went down to the desk and told them. They asked the cleaning lady to check on the person, check if they were breathing. Sadly, the person declined. So, when I say a horrible end, it makes me sad to even remember the details. At the end of Bobbie Jean Brown’s book, she discusses the incident with Jani and the hotel. She and his family wanted to find out who left him there is such a condition knowing he needed help.
Sorry for the novel. I hope this answers some questions 🙂
I had the pleasure of meeting Jani Lane after a concert in Pittsburgh, PA in the early 90's. They were playing with Dokken and Alice Cooper. He was such a great guy.❤ Very humble, very nice, and very down to earth. He had a girl waiting on him, but he took the time to chat with me for a bit and I got his autograph. I was SO sad to hear when he had passed. He deserved so much more. He had asked his ex wife, Bobbie Brown, if he could stay in her basement for awhile to get back on his feet. She refused.😠 I bet she truly regrets that now. (I know I would). They were supposed to be friends... SMH...🙄 I would have thought his gravesite would have looked a lot different. Thought he would of been buried back in Ohio, too, where he was from. I agree with you that he was a musical prodigy. May sweet Jani RIP. 💔
Love that song Heaven…RIP Jani
“Got a picture of your house..you’re standing by the door.. it’s black and white and faded…”
This is great i don't think anyone has done him, RIP Jani ❤
Hi
Very true. It was always stated that he was cremated and his ashes were with his family, I assume his wife and daughter. I am thrilled to know he has a place to pay respects to now. I am heartbroken to know his wife has now passed. Such a tragic story for both
Warrant had three albums with Jani Lane after Dog Eat Dog. They released Ultraphobic in 1995, Belly to Belly in 1996, and Under the Influence in 2001. Three very underrated albums. I recommend any Warrant fan who hasn't heard of these albums to put them on your playlist.
I watched him on Celebrity Fit Club on VH1. We got to see his struggles with alcohol. Very Sad!
Im a black person and i listen to rap alot but by me watching you lemont im listening to jani lane and my friends are wanting to know who the group is too. Warrant
I'll be the one to tell you that Warrants second album was finished and ready for release. It was titled "Uncle Tom's Cabin". Until a record exec forced him to add "Cherry Pie" to the record. Put it at the beginning and changed the name of the record. Their biggest hit. Their cheesiest song, too.
Very Cool, Mark 🤘
You should check out Aerosmith and run DMC collaboration on " walk this way"💯❤️ 3:39
Im a white dude. Thanx for letting me know. Makes a big difference
The band hated Cherry Pie. It was a contractual thing.
Lamont, I cannot express how much I appreciate you sharing this with us. I am almost 48, so I am 47 now, the same age Jani was when he passed. I fell in love with him when I was 13. His gifts were endless and it is so heartbreaking how he was lost. He had so much more to give to the world. I will never forget him and appreciate all of the talent that he had. I met him a few times at shows and he was so genuine and sweet, it made my whole world. It's not often that you meet your idols and they live up to or exceed your expectations. Jani did that for me 10 fold. I am so sorry his wife also passed, I was not aware. Bless his loved ones and fans. Thank you for sharing this.
Jani was a personal friend of mine for decades we lived in the Hollywood bowl motel for a bit and when I was in a pretty popular 80’s hair metal band and toured a lot and me and Jani stayed friends and he always had a sadness in his eyes and the night we were drinking he told me about how he was raped and it killed me and he never got over it ! He was at my wedding and I sang heaven to my wife with Jani helping me sing ( talk about pressure ) and he was the nicest and most generous and gentle rock star and I miss my friend everyday ! And for the record he hated cherry pie !! lol absolutely hated that song ! ROCK ON 🤘🏻🤘🏻!
BS story
@@SOLDOZER no it wasn’t and you don’t lie about a close friend and his frustration of people like you not believing him I watched him spiral and this man dealt with demons you’d never even could imagine or try and comprehend the last time I saw my friend is when me and him sang at my wedding and I never got the chance to tell my friend how much I loved him and for you to say that this is “ BS “ only shows how cold and heartless people in this world can be I don’t know what twisted you but maybe you just needed a good friend to talk to like Jani didn’t have so please don’t ever make fun of my friends death because he was an AWSOME friend and a better father so save your trolling for someone else bud
Dog Eat Dog is so under-appreciated.
By far their best album. Deep and creative- Jani sounded best on this album IMO.
A deeper version of his death was someone was with him in that hotel room. They wrote a note stating "I am Jani Layne" they left him there and he passed away. I'm not sure they ever figured it out. What an awful way to pass away. Anyway as always another great video Lamont. RIP 🙏
I loved Jani...My heart broke the day he passed away...He is forever missed...I hope he's resting peacefully...Thank you for this video and all that you do...Take care and be safe! Amy from Pittsburgh
Warrant played on my street right around the time they became huge, in a small church of all places lol. My friend didn't want to go so I walked there by myself. I was standing in the front leaning on the stage during the concert. Jani noticed I was a little uncomfortable and wasn't smiling (I was 15 and self conscious bc I was by myself). So, throughout the entire concert he would frequently glance down at me as he was singing, lift his sunglasses, wink, and motion for me to smile. He performed like there were 20,000 people to a crowd of maybe 50 or less and he was genuinely concerned that I was having a good time. He was so kind to me and in a completely non-pervy way,. I will always respect and admire him for that. He was a genuinely kind hearted person. It is heart breaking the way he died. Thank you for acknowledging him in such a kind way❤
Wow. That really was fascinating. Had no idea his wife died. So sad so young and so talented. Their graves are so nondescript.
Never was a fan of 80s hair metal, but my appreciation changed after he passed and I watched a few videos about his life. Sucks that alcohol and drugs can take people at an early age.
I started to enjoy Mindy McCready and now Jani Lane, thank you bro!!!

Jani Lane hated that song and didn't even want to sing it. He was afraid that he would forever be known as the cherry pie guy. Perfect song for his forever resting place.
Acrually thats "Heaven" your thinking about. Jani thought it would make Warrant a sellout "Pu*** catcher" band (his words) He actually liked Cherry Pie until after he married Bobbi. He actually told me "She was a seriously crazy b**ch" and whenever he sang Cherry Pie it reminded him of "not so good times" with her
That's actually not true. That myth comes from the quote he did on behind the music. He was actually really drunk, and his mother had just died. He came in for an interview and was completely broken. Years later he came out and said that he actually loves the song, it made him a lot of money, he loves playing it, and regrets telling ppl he hated the song.
@@metpach Actually I heard Jani say those words...5 feet from me over a friends house that was good friends with him. That friend was Jim Pagel and he was in a band called "Gunslinger" that actually did some touring of the clubs in Cali with Warrant. Gunslinger opened for Warrant. Jani and Jim stayed in touch for a while and that is how I met Jani. So sorry man, I am going to go with what Jani told us in person
@@anthonylong5870 He literally told Eddie Trunk on that Metal show that he doesn't hate the song. You can probably find that clip. Regardless, he likes Cherry Pie. It made him a lot of money and it's still a banger.
