    Go check out that junkyard that cleetus went to in his latest video, they seemed to have some LS engines lying around. Cleetus paid less than 300 for one for that corvette 'Ruby'

  • @Taylordrifts
    @Taylordrifts  5 ปีที่แล้ว +16

    Something worth noting is that. The engine I’m looking for is an l33. It’s an aluminum block 5.3 with 799 heads. It only came in 06-07 Silverado 1500’s extended cab 4wd trucks and only 10% of those got it. So it’s a hard find to pull at a junkyard because most get pulled and sold like this.

    I tend to take back roads if I'm not in a hurry. Especially if I'm in a fun car. I def try to take different and new routes I haven't before if they're similar distances. I think I may have legit driven on that road in Florida too the one time I was there on vaca. Had a rental Kia Optima at the time. One thing to remember is big houses are cheaper out in the country. A lot of the more affluent folks will be business owners. Sucks on the engine. For the price I'd be annoyed to get a beat on rinsed off engine too. Good luck man!

    I thought the same thing when I was in SC. There was houses but nowhere to work. The nearest town with anywhere to shop looked like it was stuck in the 30’s. I was glad I didn’t need gas passing through there because they had a filling station so if I had to take a guess it’s cash only. But you should take a trip up north. Pretty much everything from VA to ME is mountains and Forrest’s for state parks. I’m in NJ but my favorite place I’ve been to is Conway NH. Beautiful place.

    Some of those nice houses in the middle of nowhere are typically owned by rich folks who have multiple homes not just one. For the most part they might be a general contractors or a business owners that might need a spare house for in-between business trips and jobsites. Another thing could be that they want a spare house to get away from the city life and be in a more rural area for relaxation. Alot of times it much cheaper to build a big house out in the outskirts of cities because of all the money you'll save from buying land at a lower price.

    Sucks about the engine. I've heard that due to the hurricanes and stuff that have happened over that way, there have been a bunch of engines and cars that are on the market due to being in flooded areas. Filled with mud and stuff in random areas. Good luck on engine search.

    • @Nasonix2
      @Nasonix2 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea honestly doesn't oil float on water? Maybe the oil floated up there bcuz it was flooded at the bottom. But still, it coulda also been crappy too. never really know and for the price it was, u don't want to get burned. It seemed like more of an engine that was sold as expected to run (the warranty was probably because they knew some of them were disappointments and it's their way of sorting thru without the work), and if he had of just added oil and tried to run it like some people would've, that'd be very crappy lol there was like dirt, mud, stones and branches in there.... lmfao

    Taylor, Don't know what roads you drive on 'round there, but to get to Bushnell from Orlando, one of the best ways is off the Turnpike onto 27 exit and then go north and turn left on Bridges and Youth-camp Road through old Florida farms and hills. Beautiful area with old oaks on the Lake Wales Ridge, and lovely curves to drive your Miata, or drive anything, for that matter. I am sure you probably already know that since you live in the area.
    You should make a video of Bridges/Boy-scout from 27 to 48 in Center Hill with a dashcam and/or headcam and commentary pulling the curves like on your go-cart vids. Farms, Florida hills, country houses, barns, rusty silos, cattle, horses, live oaks with hanging moss and a narrow as hell straightaway at the end.

    • @danielcluley870
      @danielcluley870 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also, 33 north from I-4 and turn onto 561 to climb up the ridge to Clermont.
      Or Orange Springs to Interlachen, to Middleburg. . . .
      Hilly Florida that not many people know.

    Seriously Taylor read my lengthy comment i posted 8 minutes from this one please. If u get a junk yard engine, your likely to face issues like blowby or whatever. Sometimes u do rarely get lucky. But IMO it isn't that much more work to rebuild it with just pistons, rings, head gasket, oil pump, water pump. Your engine will be nice and clean on the inside and your rings will be gapped properly for drifting and going hard on it. inspect bearings and the cams/crank for any wear. You should be good to go! It's almost a no brainer!!! Not to mention it will be good content. Everybody loves the rebuilds but in your caSe as well as what mine was, it will just be a refresh/light/cheap/careful/loving oem rebuild. ;)
    I think that will provide you with the more reliable outcome... and even save money in the end.
    I seriously believe the reason why you had all the issues with the 1.8l miata rebuilds back then were either due to the fuel injector harness problem or the megasquirtpnp base spark map back then being not reliable or safe to run as is. But in your case it was the injector harness without a doubt. I can't remember the exact order of events right now but if u rebuilt it again after the injector harness issue, and it blew again it was likely still due to an explanation or the mspnp base spark map being way too aggressive right above cruise back then, they fixed it earlier this year or so.

    I think it's time to just send the motor you have out and make it a great foundation. You can run a turbo on it later if you wanted since the block could hold it. I know this is backyard budget build but getting a truck motor out of the junk yard will pretty much be a caked up high mileage beater again.

    Man you are just have to go to an LKQ and pull one your self. Kind of sucks but will be cheaper. When you get one just put new rod, main bearings and a oil pump in it. You are taking the pan off anyway, might as well make sure everything is good with some new parts. It would be cheap insurance in my opinion. Good luck on the hunt for the next one.

    I' ve done what you're doing right now. Engine went bad, got another shitty engine, that blew out, got another one and so on...but in reality I should've rebuilt the original engine and be done with it. Atleast you know what you get when doing it yourself and in the long run would save some money as well, taken into account the headache of returning the engine, trucks running cost getting there and back, twice, plus picking up another engine...and most of all, time. Either way hope that the next one will be the one.

    Back roads are better less people driving like idiots. I-4, Interstate 75, I-95, and the Turnpike are complete nightmares. You hear about people getting killed all the time on these major highways in fiery crashes, so yeah back roads are a bit safer. When I travel on the weekends sometimes with my family and friends to go to Disney World or Lego Land I'll take highway 17 for example or if I'm going to the east coast I'll take 27 to Miami or Fort Lauderdale. It takes time but believe me you'll have fun seeing new things on the way.

      @@thewheelman1993 that's crazy my local pick and pull charges like $155+20 core for a 4cyl and $195+30 core for 8cyl. 6cyl falls between them. They also do not change price based on model or year of vehicle. They don't get any expensive cars but plenty of ls trucks. A ls3 costs the same as any other V8.
