    if your battery goes flat it can appear problematic to get the bonnet open to replace, recharge or jump start your car I have tried to cover the 3 situations you will encounter. the 2 links below are for cars with a designated terminal in the fuse box and an emergency bonnet release cable under the front wing.

    Thanks for this - it really helped me. However, it was a DIFFERENT FUSE on my 1999 Boxster. Its fuse C3 (15amp), which is on the 3rd row down and 3rd fuse from the LEFT, not the 3rd from the right as per your video.

    Brilliant!!! First i didnt understand what you talk about. Try every other suggestion true mekanik bok, youtube and so called experts (even Porsche Center. The alarm always went on , could not turn it of true use the key to look on and of, and no hood open. This realy work, i could shut of the alarm and use the ordinary button to open the hood and recharge the battery.

    The early boxsters have a cable bonnet/frunk and trunk/boot release so all you need to do is unlock the door. You can tell the cable operated cars because the have a long lever, the later ones have a very short pull up ‘button’ electrical release. Your car should have a cable release which is why you don’t have the positive terminal in the fuse box, you don’t need one!

    • @Paul1962
      @Paul1962  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes mine has the cable release, problem was the bonnet was locked, so you cant pull the cable until you can get the central locking to unlock the bonnet

    • @williampotter2098
      @williampotter2098 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, NO. My 2000 S has the cable levers but they seemed to be locked down while the battery is dead. I'm going to try these tricks tomorrow. Tried earlier today but tried fuse 3 down and 3 to the left as the video stated and nothing worked. I'll try 3 down and 3 to the right as a couple of people mentioned tomorrow. Maybe some differences in fuse layout between the UK and US cars.

    • @Paul1962
      @Paul1962  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@williampotter2098 Hi William, take a look up behind the wing liner (right hand side looking at the car from the front, on UK cars) there should be an emergency bonnet/trunk release cable. It maybe on the left on American cars! the problem is although it is a cable release system once the battery is flat the central locking locks everything.

    • @eddherring4972
      @eddherring4972 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Paul1962 my car has the release cable rerouted through the front towing eye, just pull the cover off and there you go. In the event of a breakdown the car has to be flatbed recovered rather than towed in any event so the front towing eye is no loss.

    Thanks for the tip! On my 2000 Boxster S Coupe in USA the door/hood locking fuse was located at Row C #3 and was 15 Amp. Hooked up a 12 volt

    Visiting this page in 2021. This trick got me out of a bind when the battery on my 2000 Porsche Boxster S went completely dead, and the guy from the towing company said he could not jump it if I cannot open the hood. For this US model, the C3 fuse is indeed 3rd from top and left. It worked just like the video says --the car was able to get enough power to get unlocked, and for me to pop the hood. Now I can recharge the battery myself.

    Hello Paul, hope you are doing well.. Have the same problem, but my car is the Boxster S 2000 and the fuse box is different. We you be so kind and let me know what device runs that fuse (3rd row down, 3rd spot left). Thank you in advance for your response. Warm regards, henry, Calgary, Canada

    • @Paul1962
      @Paul1962  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Henry, you are looking for the fuse that powers the central locking. on some of the later cars, there is a jump start terminal in the fuse box so look for that too, it will be a lot easier. lastly, check under both front wings for an emergency release cable, as I have received reports that it can be on either side depending on the country the car was sold in. regards Paul.

    Hey Mr. 1962 I'm mister 1963 ;} Thanks for this, but I'm still stuck my 2003 Boxster (With drivers side on the Left) Has the pull out Red Lead but is still dead in the water. I assume I fried a fuse or something ... It's about to start snowing and I need this car stored for winter. I'm guessing I need to start pulling fuses next... I even tried donating the car but the charities won't tell you what the tax write off will be... I'm guessing this vehicle will go up rather than down in the future ;}

    Thank you for posting this video, it saved me loads of time on my LHD 2003 Boxster. And yes, it did have the pull out jumper in the fuse box, but with a dead battery, it would not charge nor operate the hood release (Bonnet for our european friends). But just a note, the legend inside the fuse box cover is useless and doesn't even look like anything close to how the actual fuse box is laid out. The fuse you need is also 3 rows down, but 3 in from the left. Thank you again and you save me from pulling my fender well out in the freezing cold. :D

    On a 2000 Boxster S
    4th row....3rd green fuse from the left (marked with a 30)...insert your wire...follow directions on how to attach the wire to the battery charger. The horn may start to sound. Take your key remote and press the unlock button. The horn will stop and now you can use the lever to unlock the hood to get to the battery. Hope this helps someone out there :)

  • @markgriskey
    @markgriskey ปีที่แล้ว

    Sorry to be an "ass" here but... the whole reason I needed to watch this video again was to clarify something super basic... When one removes said fuse and then attaches a "jumper" to said fuse location... One now has 2 choices ... you may think I'm an idiot for asking this (and I might be) BUT... to move forward... ;} One has now 2 choices ...A plug lead into TOP slot (of the fuse) or B plug lead into bottom slot... again maybe I seem like a moron for asking but DOES IT MATTER?

    • @Paul1962
      @Paul1962  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As long as you replace the fuse, it won't matter, as you are supplying power to the whole circuit.

    best thing to do is go out and buy a portable jump box that is about 7in sold at Harbor Freight and comes with its own pouch , cables ,usb chargers for Android and iPhone, built in flash light and Fits in the storage compartment of your Boxster or behind the seats ! If your battery ever goes dead you always have a backup. It works great good quality I have used it multiple multiple times it's like $74
    make yourself a note on how to do the procedure to power the hood release and keep it in there. I think it's pathetic and quite honestly embarrassing for Porsche to design such a stupid system. even today in 2019 cars are using cable latches to open the hood of a car, Porsche today is over-engineered and too many things to go wrong.

      If that’s your only reason not to buy it’s fairly lame. There is an emergency bonnet open cable as well, mine is relocated in the front towing eye so I just pop the cover off and it’s open, 2 seconds work literally.

      No estoy seguro de si la traducción correcta, no creo que sea la bomba de combustible como el problema parece ser con el banco de la mano izquierda
      I'm not sure if the translation correct, I don't think it is fuel pump as the problem seams to be with the left hand bank

    Hi Paul thank you for your quick reply . The video will this defiantly work on my car ? I don't want to wipe out the electrics you see . I run a Porsche Boxster 986 group on Facebook and already I'm getting mixed replies to a post I put up earlier concerning this issue I have . Thank you

    • @Paul1962
      @Paul1962  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      hi, it is a last resort thing, i would ask someone to pull the front of the liner down so they can get there hand up and feel around for the manual release, i know its a pain. You defiantly haven't got the jump start terminal in the fuse box on yours? The fuse layout can change depending on speck, but basically you need to get power to the central locking system
