Traded my 2018 R1200 GSA for a KTM 1290 Super Adventure S last May. Toured Europe down to Lake Garda in Italy, around 2,500 miles. Handled fantastic and ate the Alps no problem. Had it 5 Months but a Month of that was spent at the dealers workshop sorting out numerous niggles. Had enough and traded the KTM in for a new Triumph Tiger 1200 Rally Explorer, great bike.
Bloody GoPro issues mate! I feel your pain! Glad you can see why I love it so much! And you didn't even have it in Rally mode! I'll let you have a go on mine on my private runway at some point to really give it the beans 😂 You're right about the vibes etc, the GS is definitely smoother and more refined, but the SAS is just a monster that gets under your skin. When's your estimated delivery date? 😉
I did the opposite - traded my KTM SAS for a GSA - I say traded, what I had to do was fight for a year for the dealer/finance company to accept my rejection of the KTM SAS - it's a great bike with an amazing engine, but, build quality and KTM customer services ruined it for me, the engine block corroded within 6 months with paint flaking off and KTM stuck 2 fingers up at me until I rejected it through the ombudsman. I'd have a look at the engine block on any 6 month+ KTM SAS and check for paint flaking (particularly up on the cylinder heads) - aware that it can happen to any bike, just be careful as KTM UK were shocking, blamed me without even asking for further info beyond the photo's, dealer said nothing they could do and messages I got from freedom of information between dealer, KTM just showed they attempted to get out of any responsibility and put it down to using the bike in the rain (weren't interested that it was 6 months of summer use and ACF50 used - professional inspection report confirmed lack of paint on sharp corners and around fixings allowed moisture under the paint and caused paint to flake off) - personally I'll avoid KTM based on dealer support from KTM UK - shame as was the perfect touring machine - had much better service from BMW dealer
My mate swapped his GSA for the adventure S and as much as he is enjoying the KTM I think it's a bit too raw for him and he misses the refinement of the BMW. he is 55 like 😆 I rode his GS before he swapped it and I liked it, I could crunch thousands of miles on it, but I love the hooligan factor of the KTM.
I have a 2019 super adventure s. It is an amazing bike that is perfect for spirited riding, touring, and some off road. It's definitely the best bike I have ever owned. A fun bike that keeps me smiling every time I ride it
There's a reason why so many BMW dealers say that SAS/SAR or even Multistrada owners come back to the GS after riding their bikes for a few years. They are absolutely great machines but for doing it all and especially riding relaxed and comfortable the GS is the best. I rode them all, as I want to buy an adventure bike, but I guess at the end the GS is the most reasonable bike. Even though KTM and Ducati beat the GS in many ways. I haven't decided yet but tendency is towards BMW.
I would very much suggest watching the latest on KTM from DSR, great bikes when they work but back up from manufacturer seems sadly lacking even with a good dealer. Vote Beemer here.
I've never ridden a GS but I did own a new KTM 1090 in 2018 .(my first ever new bike .....I was so excited !) It was electronically glitchy from day one ! NEVER again KTM .
Good video, but somehow I was expecting more: It will be nice if you could compare this new bike with other bikes that you had. As an example, you briefly compared it to the GS, with some vibrations, but you did not elaborate. I would like to know, from you perspective, how this bike behaves in low traffic in town; or how efficient the screen is, if the screen creates annoying buffeting; how are the controls; the dash; the quick shifter; the exhaust note: Is it too laud? or it is muted?, How is the electronic package? Hill Hold? Heated grips? etc...Keep up the good work

I'm def a KTM fan boy, owning both a 350 and 690 (plus a long list of others over the years) - but with those two in the garage - I wouldn't trade my GSA for a Super Adventure as tempting as it may be. GSA is just to good for long distance IMHO. And I'll admit, I just can't get enough of GSA styling
Great video Mark. Grrr GoPro, how has it got to the GoPro 11 and it is still unreliable. I've just got the DJI Osmo Action 3 to try. As you know I went from BMW to KTM last year, no regrets from me. I'm like a kid at Christmas the night before going out for a ride 😀
Can hardly, in fairness, compare a previous gen GS to a current KTM. Even the R1250GS is at the end of it’s life cycle. 1290 Super Adventure is obviously a great bike. I test rode two different model years of the KTM, and didn’t buy either. Great power but heavy on vibration, great in the dirt, less impressed with it on road vs the GS. Plus no fiddling with chain maintenance on the GS when touring. Anyway, I bought the R1250GS and no regrets. Honestly, for me it came down to the dealer. I have heard horror stories on KTM’s backing of its product after purchase, and the dealer is a little sketchy in my area. Lots of reports from KTM owners on software issues that dealers seem unable to remedy after countless times in the shop. Having a good dealer means something. As does reliability. To me the BMW was more refined, comfortable and confidence inspiring. Is anybody really able to tap more than 134 hp in real world adventure riding? Torque rules, and the BMW has more and is a pleasure at all parts of the power band.😊
The KTM might be like a new wife. You ride it hard at first grinning like a madman, but after a while you just want the smooth comfort that a GSA brings.
Two years in on m my ktm 1290 sas and love it like it was our first date. I ride her hard and long 🤣. She likes getting wet and dirty but still handles like a dream
My reasoning was that i wanted something sporty but with good wind protection. The superduke GT was almost 3000 euros more expensive so it was off the table. The GS wasnt exciting enough for the canyon carving i can do around the house, so my money went on the 1290
