    Burgess Meredith was a treasure.
What a career and life he had!
Captain in the Air Force during WW2 and acting well into his 80s.

I came from Poland and I can remember many conversations like this with my grandfather, I remember him getting snockered up and then getting verbally abusive to my grandmother.
He passed away at the age of 103 getting hit on his Vespa scooter when the driver ran a stop sign .
    I miss him terribly.

Reminds me of my great grandpop. I think he quit smoking in his 40s, but drank a lot and ate lots of candy. Woke up every morning and would make greasy dinner type food. Lifted weights, collected model trains, gardened, fixed stuff, played cards and read like hell. Lived to 93 with no health problems and nothing more then 2 hearing aids and a pair of glasses. Didn't even need a cane or walker. What a legend.

Honestly, from what I have observed with my family, I think the most important things for longevity are minimal stress, regular physical activity, and having a purpose to your life. As far as diet goes? I don’t think that’s nearly as important as people crack it up to be, other than you shouldn’t over eat and be overweight.

My grandpa smoked 2 packs a day of camel unfiltered, f4om the time he was a gunner in an M10 GMC in europe.
Worked in the coal mines as a mule boy before the war, and a miner when he got back.
Retired from the mines, always had about 3/4 to 1 acre garden hunted deer every season, collected ginseng, always roaming the hills.
I remember as a child in his living room, he, my dad, and i wouls watch TNG together in the evenings, hed be smoking away.
He ended up getting prostate cancer at 86, died at 89 the week before i graduated boot camp.

That’s another thing I noticed with a lot of the old timers. Almost all of them have gardens and eat fresh fruits and vegetables for at least part of the year. Not to mention the physical activity it gets them.

@lokiprepper he was. One of the few people I truly feel like I "lost" when they were gone.
I just feel like we would spend so much time together working on things now and sharing ideas with eachother that I don't think would have ever happened with others.
I do think the fresh food, plays such a substantial role. Our grand/great grandparents didn't "survive" off the processed, treated, sprayed, pesticided garbage we are stuck subsisting on these days.

Why we get a 50 something year old guy who's taken care of himself die suddenly while out jogging. A guy and a girl I knew, both abused themselves since they were teenagers drinking, drugs, smoking, the female was terribly overweight from all the booze and bad diet - both died in their mid 40s recently. Yet another dude I know, abusing himself since he was a teen in the same way, just had his 76th birthday, no serious issues. Genetics and just how happy you are play an absolutely huge role in how long you live. My of my dad’s side of my family have all been prone to obesity and a million health issues, while many of my mom’s family have lived at least into their 90’s. Like my grandma who will be 94 this year, still live on her own in a regular house, still has all of her mental capacities like always, gets her own groceries, drives, shovels her front walk in the winter, and is on a weekly bowling league. I’m hoping that I inherited her genetics, which I seem to have to far as health goes. Still, it always behooves you to play the odds and have a healthy diet, exercise daily, don’t smoke, and try to live as happy and low stress life as you can. Personally I think that’s maybe the most important. I try to just not worry about things that I can’t control, and not keep people around in mg life who just make me feel bad. You may have fewer friends and family around in your life, but who you do have are better for you.

So, the truth he speaks!! In January of this year, I called my mother and asked, how her parents ate. She told me what he ate, bacon and eggs, beef, chicken, pork, vegetables, fruit, whole milk, NO PROCESSED FOODS.. So I said, i'll try it!! Since Jan., I've lost 30 lbs. from 270 to 240lbs., my skin problem is gone, my blood pressure is down to 117/73, I'm stronger than I've been since I was in my 20's, I don't take any peds, my sex drive is up, etc. I also cut down on my sugar, and I'm not as hungry. My grandparents lived into their 80's, while my dad's parents were dead by my age which is 55. He's right on the mark, but don't smoke anything (but weed!!)Great scene.

Reminds me of a story. Once knew a man who was chastised for having a cigarette outside a restaurant. Woman told him that cigarettes are bad for you, and they'll kill him in the end. He replied "I'll have you know my grandfather lived to be 94 years old." Shocked she asked if he was a smoker, to which he replied "No, but he did learn to mind his own God damned business."

A good example of back in the days when we didn’t understand that high cholesterol was a combination of high levels of cholesterol and high levels of sucrose. The high levels of sucrose caused the cholesterol to stick to the inside of your valves. That can cause the heart attacks. Grandpa here may have had a small break bacon sandwich, but he wasn’t chugging down soda, and he wasn’t eating candy, and he wasn’t eating chocolate ice cream, he was fine. Have all the cholesterol you want just don’t stick it up the inside of your valves with sugar (simple OR complex sugar)
