There’s an excellent new guide showing how to make better use of mission boards. SCO Frameshift Drives and Enhanced AX modules are now available for sale on fleet carriers. And do Arthur’s words mean the type 8 is being built for open combat? o7 CMDRs

First combat freighter? Keelback is crying in the background.
If you Reeaaaaaally want to be pedantic about it then yes the Keely has a Fighter bay but ....honestly.... anyone using it as a viable combat capable freighter would very unusual. The Python for example is waaaay more capable.
You know, the Keepback is one of those ships I have not bought yet. I may have to give it a try before the Type 8 comes along.
lol! Keepback! Bit of a typo there.
@@tiberiusdave252 accurate
@@TheBuurPityeaaah I was going the combat freighter/mini carrier route and I couldn’t wait to get past the Keelback. Definitely a fighter kills the target before you can spin around kind of deal. I met my ship love with the MKII. At that point you do trading missions as bait!
No sir, you are not looking at the first combat freighter. The Imperial Clipper and Cutter have been in the game for many years.
Naaaahhhh that's not basking
And the Vette, and the t10, and the Python, and the Cobra 4... "Multirole" in this game just means "Decent cargo space and lots of weapons."
Clipper, Cutter, T10, Python, Anaconda, Corvette, Krait MK2
@@Majima_Nowhere I love your comment!!! Haha holds cargo and does the pew pew!
What about the t10...if thats not a combat freighter....😊
I love it when a ship has bits that move with the landing gear, like the Chieftain’s engines rotating.
And the DBX's engines!
Hoping this is going to be a decent mining alternative to the glorious Python
Yeah the best medium miner should be an industrial themed LAKON ship IMO.
The Type 8 is basically the lovechild of the Millennium Falcon and an X-Wing
I'd say it rather looks more or less exactly like the U-Wings from Rouge One ;)
@@TheEssusthe moldy crow. Both of you need to learn the name and look up the hull
And I see in him miner from Eve Online
Im so excited for the T8. And im saying this as someone who pretty exclusive flies the Krait Mk2. It had everything I love: Cool looking engines. Low hanging cockpit thats basically under the ship, and PYLONS
I just can't wait for the T8 to drop and I am very similar to you I almost exclusively love to fly the Krait MK II.
T-8 is a little bigger version of Star Citizen's (salvager) Drake Vulture.
Nothing really outstanding, it's just copy paste.
Combat freighter… or excellent mining ship? Looks similar to EVE’s starter mining ship ;) Definitely a compatible role, and if it’s swifter than a Python, and roomier than a Krait, I have much use for it in my fleet.
I mine in a T10
4 Large Beam turrets.
I can sit mining and collecting as ships pop around me.
I was hid in the frozen cloud of an ice asteroid once. While a squadron of FDL, Vulture and Anaconda, were looking for me.
Awesome situation.
Great video- it really is a very interesting time in Elite Dangerous. And I have to say I really like the look of the Type 8 and it does look like a fighter freighter. I really enjoy Dituris videos- they are great guides and it is really great how you share the fab work of other channels.
I seem to have randomly chosen a great time to get back into elite dangerous after 10 years of inactivity. Was just scrolling through my steam list when i decided to redownload it a week ago. Upgraded the fsd in my Viper mk 4 and made 200 million in about 10 hours worth of an exobiology trip. Now I'm off to work on outfitting an anaconda to do more exploration and exo work
Nice, I operate a fairly extensive fleet carrier and will be happy to add the modern xenology modules and SCO drives to it!
And if the Type 8 is a combat-capable hauler I will probably use it for hauling 2.0 Powerplay items, piracy, and evading rival pirates who want my ill-gotten cargo.
In my experience, Arf doesn't mix up his words, everything he says has weight and intent, so if he's saying something, he's saying something. In my opinion, him saying "No mic drop this month, but you should probably tune in next month" was clearly a mic drop worthy statement. I'm so excited for Elite, what an absolutely stunning game. 2024 is turning out to be a wonderful rebirth for Elite and I'm here for it. What a time to be a dedicated superfan. Amazing video Buurs as always! Much much love to you both.
I remember when he said Odyssey would have on foot cqc.

New CM
It all looks very optimistic and the new ships are very exciting. The Python Mk II is a beast of a ship and it's clear that EDO has a lot coming in the future. I do hope that there isn't too much focus on Open play though. I don't play MMOs, ever, and the experiences I have had in Open have been uniformly negative. If parts of the game become effectively locked away from me by only being accessible in Open mode, I will probably wander away from the game, which would be a shame. Games are played for enjoyment and escapism, and when you sit down in front of your computer wondering what to load up today, you're going to load up what is enjoyable and rewarding, and I have very large Steam and Epic libraries bursting with as yet unplayed games. I know I'm not the only CMDR who feels that way. I hope FDev are encouraging people towards Open without penalising people who are never going to go there.
Agreed. There's a balance to be found.
I hope this "moving parts" feature paves the way for an Imperial ship inspired by the FE2 Courier, or perhaps even revised Imperial Explorer, with a vaguely Starfleet-esque profile and Voyager-style articulated nacelles.
On the topic of new ships, while im sure the next will be the Panther LX, I think we're long overdue some ships from First Encounters like the Saker and Osprey, (especially the Osprey-X, because every space game needs its resident X-Wing impersonator)
Im reckoning the type at is going to be a bit of a beast, high hull, and forward speed two class 3 hard points. Two class 7 slots, but bad turning rate.
Combat frieghter would mstch lakons mindset.
honestly the Krait II and Krait Phantom both fit that description somewhat already, so it's definitely possible
But I think a good self defense capable frighter fighter want rearward facing gun placements.
having weapons on such forward extend structure also allows for wider arc rotation thus better targeting capability
Really good point. Gotta be hasn't it, surely?
It taken me years to get a federal Corvette
I first got Elite dangerous back in 2019 of December Christmas Day
That's when I got Elite dangerous horizons
Now I got Odyssey during December of 2023
Before van I upgraded to Elite dangerous horizons 4.0 that did give me a lot of credit boost enough to get me a fleet carrier
It still taken me forever to get a SITH Federal Corvette
5-30-24 THAT'S WHEN I GOT IT FROM 2019 THROUGH THIS YEAR
great video: nazi government germany shot me away from this game with KI-methods: 23.000.000.000.000 credits. Elite in battle, handel and exploration. seven ships: Two federal corvettes, vulture, eagle, krait phantom, imperial cutter, and type - 10 defender. Heart of Steel, my best ship now in Sirsir landing plaform 09. 03.000.000.000.000 on caarier. Now wek for week 20 miilion credits less. I do not know, when I can play this game again.
The type 8 being a combat freighter was fairly obvious when they first showed it.
The portrusions looked "weapon-y" and not very good for freighting. As an explorer/trader, it's pretty sad news, but I'm hoping it can house just enough variety of exploration gear to be viable!
Edit: if it's basically a keelback with 1-2 extra optional slots, I'd be sold. Hoping for SLF capabilities here
First, the Python Mark 2 now they unveil a Type 8, I could use it for mining or Exploration, maybe trade running
Maybe they listened to everyone complain about the Clipper. SHOULD be a medium pad but wings just barely too big to fit. Retracting wing/engine pods would solve that problem & (hopefully) have the Clipper's cargo space..
Hmm, I was for long time using concept of combat freighter, others were laughing but it had its point. And after my failed try to battle against Thargoids, which managed to get me on engineering (G5 drag drives, G4 recharge distro and G3 armored PP) my Krait is even more capable. And Midshards against human ships maybe are not most effective (I heard that mod chargers are better) but incredibly fune and easy to use. I wonder if T8 will be better, then I am changing ship. Although would be good if it would have thrusters, PP and distro class like Krait
I'm gonna go out on a limb here, but I think the T8 will have LESS cargo space than the T7. My reasoning? Well, the P2 looks bigger than the P1, but has fewer internal spaces, apparently to accommodate the FSD SCO better and have more hard points (so I heard anyway).
Also, look at the scale of the T8. Compare the size of the cockpit to that of the T7. It's practically the same, which would make the overall volume of space in the T8 less than the T7. The T8 engines are bigger, taking up more of that space too, regardless if they extend or retract. The 'arms' that will hold the weapons, wont be able to also take cargo space, so you're kinds left with very little in the way of cargo space in the rest of the hull.
I'd go with this being a combat freighter fighter, but at the expense of overall cargo space. I think that will be its downside.
Frontier have for a short moment hold our attention saying they will launch new ships. But sadly many of us, who have been supporting them for years, can not spend more money to get this new vessels.I can undertsand the need for fresh cash to keep the game runing, but Im afraid this strategy wont last longer.
If we can't put our virtual hands on a new ship soon (don't make us wait 3 months for it), Im afraid many will lose intertest again, take a break/pause (who knows how long?) and move on to another game as we did back in 2021.
3 months is to long for 2024, specially when you launched the Oddysey fiasco back in may 2021. We have been waiting for something, new and usefull since then, its been 3 years Frontier, 3 freaking years.
I did Federal Massacre missions. Once the Vette was unlocked, I could A rate everything.
First combat freight? Looks directly at the T7 handling herself fairly decently in combat, if you know what you are doing and are crazy enough (fortunately I am crazy enough).
The render showed 4 hardpoints firing. Maybe they will give us 2L and 2M hardpoints like the phantom or clipper(4 large seems unlikely, right?). With a good power distributor that would be deadly enough. I also hope they will give it 6 utility slots. That would allow for some great shield resistances.
It’s kind of funny, I just started a trip from the bubble with my FC to basically circle the galaxy a few weeks ago but the type 8 looks amazing so I think I’m going to trek back sooner than I expected
I finally unlocked the corvette about three months ago after seven years of game play lol,
I just kept putting it off I had unlocked the Cutter back in 2017
Honestly a combat freighter is a nice niche. I was thinking earlier what kind of ship ED was still missing, and I kept thinking of a Millenium Falcon style ship. Beefy, fast, can hold itself in a fight, but first and foremost a smuggler/blockade runner.
4:00 It seems interdictors will anyway demolish your washtub, unless this is a Cutter with 5k raw shield minimum (and 17k thermal + 19k kinetic)
I wish ships were more role specific, The type 8 looks like a nice freighter/mining ship, not a combat ship at all. Although ships like that need heavy duty and able to take a beating when attacked by pirates.
I feel like the original Python and the Krait mkII function well as combat freighters already, but they're just so competent in every career as it is.
If I had to guess, the Type 8 will have less cargo capacity than the original Python, but more firepower and perhaps a combat rated hull.
While a new non-combat ship is definitely appreciated, when will we start getting new small ships? Medium ships are cool and all, but given that every new ship added since the T10 has been a medium ship.
“Combat fighter” - it looks like a box, industrial version of the Mamba. (After a few beers)
Ironically i might buy the Type 8 since it has WAY more utility than the python mk2
I honestly think frontier is about to see the mining/trading community throw money at their faces more than the python mk2
My carrier is almost always at the frontline, defo gonna stock it with the better AX weapons for any nearby CMDRs :D
It won't make any sense for the type 8 to be able to carry more cargo that the type 7 given that it is physically smaller and half the ship's size is taken up by engines and forks lol
Because we can't walk around the ship interior, They can make it hold whatever they want to. Python and T7 have 350T hulls and can carry 294T and 310T max cargo respectively. The Anaconda is a 400T hull that can carry 470T of cargo. It is literally made out of unicorium and unobtainium. The T8 will probably out carry a Clipper, but to beat out the Python would render the T7 obsolete immediately.
This is my thoughts exactly. I'm willing to bet the T8 will have less cargo space than the T7 as it is smaller. That will be its downside to being SCO capable and have 'more weapons' (allegedly). Plus the actual design of the ship, while looks cool, isn't practical for large amounts of cargo. I think this is an armed, light cargo runner, for transporting those PowerPlay commodities.
@@jasonking5405 Looking at the T7/Python loadouts, I'd guess the core internals won't exceed class 5 for PP/PD/FSD. Maybe a class 6 PP at max. 4-6 util slots. Cargo will probably land near 298 max, Class 3 shield would drop it to what I'm hoping is 290 "beating" a shielded Python albiet by 2T. I hope it gets the Beluga treatment of a bunch of medium HPs. Any thing else and you'll have to run an OC PP to have the power for it all. 300T hull probably? Gonna reference this later.
A combat freighter will never have any chance against a dedicated combat ship. And it is the Imperial Clipper that should have had the retracting nacelles....
and the imperial explorer..
@@christopherbutterfield8096that would be tight if they added that to the game
It would be nice to have a cargo ship with teeth. So tired of space "sims" thinking people want to fly loot piñatas.
Unanounced new feature -- ship interior gameplay?
I noticed the extended and retracted nacelles almost immediately, my first reaction when I saw them was like, "Huh, that's new, neat." lol
I was meh about the Python mk2 because I don't do combat but this has me very excited, I am planning to buy this when it comes out.
Not gonna lie, but if they offer the Type 8 up for sale like the Python Mk II, it seems likely that I'll pick it up as well.
The type 8 looks too cool for it to be just a trader. I would find that weird. Hard points in the front like that wouldn't make sense if defense was the main idea. Even less sense with open play in mind.
My first thought when i saw it was a blockade runner for power play. Punch you way through any system defense to deliver the cargo
The ship reminds me of the "U Wing" from Star wars rogue squadron...
Yeah i dont care, dont play the game. Tried to play the playable player character expansion, but the developers made sure its unplayable and that the game as a whole cant be playd and enjoyed. So i deleted my characters after deleting and creating a new one a few times i decided to delete the character one last time and never play it again.
I may be wrong, but the shape of the T8 reminds me a bit of the Mamba. :D
Elite keeps getting interesting, but IRL grind from work keeps me pinned down.
The only significant update in the 3 years since I bought the game is a new ship, there's a reason I abandoned this game
Freighters only need torpedos for effective defense so hopefully the two arms got two class 3s
Thanks for the weekly news bulletin! I'm looking forward to the Type-8, it looks really cool! This is looking like a good year to be a Commander!
maybe the type 8 will be good for mining if the forward hard points.
The T8 has a more industrial look to me, so the hardpoint talk is making me think it may be the next best mining vessel.
Engine nacelles move out when in flight ---> Means switching S-foils into attack position
Freighter fighter? What a nonsense classification. a True goof is naming these things
I think we might have a new "mining" ship 👀 limpets and lasers are going to look so good coming in and out
It's funny that the Corvette guide comes out about a month after I finally unlock mine.
Please let the Type 8 come with a fighter bay...
Yet the black adder error when trying to sell anything to other cmdrs on their fleet carrier still exists
Hmmmmm🤔🤔🤔 did I mention in a previous video a comment about combat then? 😉😂
All this new stuff for a "dead game mate" is wild, excited to see next months stream ;)
Me too, Remember when we went to Erevate and killed those guys going after new players? Fun times. Hopefully we can do that again and it mean something because its attached to mechanics built into the game. :)
Ikr! ;) o7
I bet the type 8 is a sco version of the python mk 1 i bet it will be multirole.
Got here before the announcement on Discord. 🙂
Thanks for this. Always love the fly-by footage you put in these videos!
huh there is no reason to combat in trade ship.
i just need more cargo than python
I think it's great that they are finally releasing a new ship, but it looks a bit TOO much like the Drake Vulture from Star Citizen in my opinion
Not the first time, Star Citizen's Nomad is inspired by the Asp line
There are similarities but mostly is the double hulled design, which goes back far beyond SC.
@@Neo-vz8nh agreed as there are a bunch of ships in EVE with similar designs, was just making an observation is all
The perfect smuggling ship.
Freighter fighter? You mean a pirate ship?
Fantastic Video. Had this video been released a few years ago. It would have been considered extremely controversial.
How the times have changed.
How so?
@@Ebalosus Anytime this was brought up In the past, There is a huge outrage from the community. And the people that came out in support of it were dragged through the dirt. People like Drew Wager, Yamiks, Dj Truthsayer even.
Back then when influencers progressed and started playing outside their viewers comfort zones, Skill levels and game knowledge were vastly different in comparison. Due to the time it takes and insight for direction some of us know about.
When we tried to relay this information much how Burr and Rheeney are doing now in preparation for upcoming content. Things got pretty harsh the last time.
This time however, the forums and the people who were incredibly outspoken against are eerily quiet, the community has now had plenty of time to catch up and understand that direction. Plus its been 10 years. Im starting to think Fdev quietly did away with the Kickstarter rules and because of that. Certain individuals no longer have a deathgrip on the community and game development.
Which is fantastic for everyone.
I know you've been around a long time. I know you've seen some of these shifts within the community yourself. Ill say this, No Developer purposefully shoots themselves in the foot as many times as Fdev has. And it kinda bothers me when people say Fdev never listens to the community. When that's all they have done this entire time.
does it really matter if its sco enabled? any ship in the game can use SCO now
An SCO enabled ship is a completely different experience to SCO being used on a non enabled ship.
Depending on the size and number of hardpoints I already had plans to make it a fighter. Being a cargo ship it's sure to have lots of internal space for making it capable of fighting, or if not lots of slots at least a few good large sized ones; I've always enjoyed being able to see my hardpoints firing and gimballing(Krait Mk2, Anaconda, Viper 3, Cobra 3 specifically)
Unlocked the Vette on main account- still need to get it and the Cutter for alt account. But my goodness! What a reveal on the T8- I mean the Kr8. 😏 So many good things happening for Eilte. With how much I LOVED the Pmk2 trailer - I am dying to see the Kr8 trailer!! o7 o7 o7 CMDRS!
"First combat freighter"
The Keelback and Type 10 would like a word.
I spotted the adjusting engine nacelles right away. Looks like my next new ship is coming soon o7 Cmdr Arrok Trarr
Thank you for all the details I have missed in the FDEV Unlocked. Awesome news, keep up the great work and reporting. Have a great weekend Cmdr Buur and Cmdr Rheeney. o7 all.
3 things I look for in a Mining ship - good weapon placement, decent Power Distro and lots of optional internals.... This could be an interesting ship for that.
Type Eight Freighter
Type Eighter
Tater
Spud?
You say Type Eighter and I say Potater
Will this replace my python as the BGS runner, could do omg.....
The Type8 is looking more and more appealing . I cannot wait to get my hands on this ship to see how well it handles.
I unlocked the corvette several years ago. I've never gained top rank with the feds or imperials though; I only ranked up high enough to get the two ships and that was it.
The retracting nacelles on the Type-8 remind of me how, in Elite II, the one imperial ship with 3 engines would raise the two lower ones as it landed. It's nice to see the ships with more animated parts. I like the smaller freighter which rotates the side nacelles into a VTOL position, for example.
The Keelback is still my fav early combat freighter.. old and not very ascetic but made me millions in the early game
Thanks for another illuminating video from the alliterative toast rack dodgers at the Buur Pit channel!
Ooooooooo I like engines which retract when landing, please please let me walk up the stairs and fade to black at door to enter cockpit
I'm still hoping we see the panther clipper, to move large amounts from and to the carrier from station s
I've had no problems not getting interdicted in my T9 against NPC pirates so a combat cargo freighter isn't needed, but a medium size freighter between the T6 and the T7 would be useful so long as it can haul more than a Python.
It's funny how so many say it's can't be done in a T9. Yet me and you have both done it several times!
Already have 2 corvettes... a very costly investment but love em to bits
I still hope to make an exploration build out of it. It’s just too cool.
Anyone ever BSG launch from a station it's fun to do
I wonder if you make it cold if it would be a good smuggling shop? Millenium Falcon anyone?
Plenty ships for that, try fe Krait Phantom.
It's a good time to be a Commander!
3:36 new Pirate ship perhaps?
Actually looks like it will make a pretty decent one
Hopefully it has the speed to bump stop
i am in the process of hunting for the Federial corvette
yes i noticed the tweet about the t8 engines and that i liked and looked very interesting
cant wait to see more about the T8
I recently got my first Vette, it exceeded my expectations. Once you add a class 5 Guardian fsd booster, its the best all around ship for the bubble. I have it fitted out to do everything, with over 30ly jump range, and while you can't use outposts or other bases without a large pad, you don't notice it. Due to how there are thousands of starports/bases to work with.
Interesting times ahead :)
Freighter Fighter. We already have the Keelback for that. And lets not forget: The clipper, the courier, the cutter, Dropship, Python MK1and even the Krait MK2
