    Nice tuning! I always thought most people tune DW drums too low. They sound flat that way, tuned up they sing.

    A TOP 5 for each price point could be good mini category? Best $300-500, $600-800, $100-1500 you get the idea

    Those drums sounded fantastic without being too thunderous. Definitely a warm growl like the thunder before a storm not while it's on top of you. Can't deny the glossy purple looked sweet too. If I had money I'd say ship them my way!

    What a superb review, I play a Dw collectors myself and I love watching all the videos, you give the same fair reviews whether it’s a starter kit or a top end kit. I love an honest, unbiased review in a world where (especially American) advertising seems to go a longer way towards a review than an actual in depth honest review. Thanks guys great work and please keep it up, now we have lost rhythm magazine I can’t help but thinking this is by far the the best way to review a kit anyway, maybe an opportunity for you guys?

      David Sandercock many thanks. When we set out with the creation of Drummers Review, at the very heart of it, we all agreed that whether folks advertise or not, our reviews are 100% impartial. Whilst we review products, we are consumers too, so what you see in our videos and on our website, is what our experience is of the products sent to us straight out of the box. If brands believe in their products, then there is nothing to fear in sending it to us. We are fair and honest with our observations. We hope, as you say with no Rhythm, that previous subscribers see DR to fill a void, now being able to not only see the products, but hear them too, along with our observations. Thanks for your comments and for watching. Please feel free to spread the word about DR, we hope everyone finds it a useful resource. Best wishes, DR

    Nolly, you nailed it regarding the appeal for DW Collectors and close mic'd situations. I've been fortunate to do a sound check both playing the kit and fifteen feet out front and you'd swear it was a different kit. I find them underwhelming whilst playing but a dream through a PA. I'm more of a Sonor guy but I see, and hear, the DW appeal.

      I recently returned to drumming after a twenty year sabbatical 😊. Long story short I didn't do a complete research in choosing a new kit. I jumped right in with DW & I'm pleased, however after looking into Sonor just recently I would've chosen Sonor. Again DW is a nice kit, but the Sonor is slightly richer in sound. Just my humble opinion..

    Purple Heart is SUUUUPER dense (which is why you have so much attack/bright tones). You pretty much nailed the idea behind the Purple Heart. Very bright, lots of attack at all tuning ranges. That’s a cool kit!

    I have them for over a year now. Got about 40 drums covers videos uploaded in my channel to date; there is no wrong with these drums; they are an absolute beauty both physically and in sound. mine is a 7 piece set; it is pricey but the quality is undeniable. If you can afford them, highly recommended.

    These drums sound superb, as I expected from classic DW, but the Remo white-coated heads leave me a bit cold on everything but the snare. I'd really like to hear this kit with some good clear Evans heads...

    Great review guys!!! DW builds some of the greatest drums out there today.Ive had the distinct pleasure of owning around 8 of there kits since they hit the market. For my taste I still favor the original recipe, maple shells with reinforcement rings, single ply clear_coated heads and the timber matching process. I believe there true hoops and true pitch tunning rods are the best in the business. FOR a true custom kit built in the USA,the price tag is up there but so is the quality. They offer an affordable option in the performance series that's closer in price to Ludwig and gretsch (both made in USA as well).

  • @fireyourrocketts
    @fireyourrocketts 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have them, they retired my Renown kit, I have not used it ever since the DW came home, with the Renown I used a Black Panther Metal Hammered Snare and even that have been in storage ever since as there is no match for the DW purple Heart snare in my opinion; they are simple awesome and one pays a pretty penny for them, I only wish I had enough to add a 6" 18" and a 20" gong drum to the kit but they all would cost couple grand if no more to add them to this particular kit; if I was a signed musician that is what this kit is missing; it sounds amazing and may be as well the last drums I bought. No need for anything else!

    This kit would appeal to folks that can get a dialed in monitor mix. me...I gotta get good response from drums I'm playing...as well as what the audience is getting. For half the price of this kit....I could get top of the line drums that give me response equal to audience sound. Even if I had the budget....wouldn't make sense to me to go for these....but just me.

  • @Rockin_Ross

    What...no 23” kick?😁
    John Good is really getting serious about finding woods from all over the planet and making drums from it.
    This kit is no exception. Well tuned eye candy this kit never fails to satisfy.
    That being said, you’ll find many others lower in price sound just as good. Always shop around before pulling any trigger for a new kit.

  • @normanwilmoth7404
    @normanwilmoth7404 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nice review but in all honesty and this is just my opinion my 7 piece Tama superstar classic custom dark indigo burst maple kit sounds so much better than that overrated DW kit. Mine has so much more range and smooth sustain for half the price. I built my own studio in my backyard just for this kit and I'm not disappointed. If you stood in front of me playing it with your eyes closed you would most definitely think my kit was on the higher end but guess what it has a high end look. That too me says a lot for Tama. Honestly that's why I didn't sucker into buying something so high priced when I have top quality for way less! Just my opinion, Tama&Remo&Meinl are where its at✌

    Love the review and, as usual, the playing.
    Too much gelt for me. If I had that sort of money to spend I'd want to buy something bespoke from an English builder. (sorry DW, no offence meant) The colour (color) looked to me like school semolina with jam mixed in. Bad memories, yuk!

      Roy I understand what your saying completely, but your not comparing apple's to apple's. These are top of the line collectors series kits.Check out Ludwig and gretsch top of the line kits and you will see what I'm talking about.There very pricey as well.If you purchase the DW performance kit,made in the USA,they are in the price range of the Ludwig classics,and gretsch brooklyn.usa. kits.Just thought I would share this info.
