    Ok. I took mine apart. And they installed the thin vane design. The height is correct...the width of the vane us smaller than stock
    What is the advantages of the "thin" design

  • @smokeskull
    @smokeskull 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Cranking down the compresser wheel using a wrench puts atress on the thin shaft. The nut should be tightenened using a socket to keep the torque centered. Dont forget how fast that shaft spins and any wobble will destroy the bearing in no time

    This rebuild kit is a must. It cured the slop in my spindle.
    My only concern is I’m not getting the boost numbers before the rebuild. What could have I done wrong?

    the exhaust side seal on the shaft won't gap closed to let the assembly seat all the way in. I've cleaned it and worked on it but there's not enough to get it in there.

      nevermind I backtracked and figured out I put the thrust bearing in upside down. everything fits now just leaving this comment in case anyone else has my issue. since this kit was an upgrade I didn't have an identical piece to compare it to.

    I would not red loctite the compressor wheel to the shaft. Terrible idea. I would be worried about doing damage if i ever had to take it apart again. Its also not necessary because it is reverse threaded and it is self locking

    Hello I tore apart my 2006 F450 6.0 turbo after loosing almost all boost. I'm trying to make the decision on rebuilding or buying a new one. The old bearings definitely have some play in the housing but I would like to know how much is to much??

    • @turbolabamerica
      @turbolabamerica  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +J Bowser check the bearing housing for scaring and check the rear seal area to make sure that the rear seal can seal properly.

    Ever had a turbine wheels get chipped up by the vanes ?

  • @murphiz
    @murphiz 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Quick question, does the orientation of the seal opening matter? Should care be taken to point the gap in the seal upwards? I was absolutely meticulous when installing the rebuild kit and I have some blue smoke at hot idle and a puff on take off then clears up. This is all I can think could have gone wrong. Ever heard of this?

    • @turbolabamerica
      @turbolabamerica  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      No. I t doesn't matter. But if you install it with the gap up it wouldn't be a bad idea. Make sure you have cleaned the oil out of the turbine housing. I picked up a 7.3 Powerstroke. It smoke with diesel smell so I know it's just cold diesel. But it also smokes with oil smell when cold. When hot the oil smell goes away. Mine seems like it could be an injector seal or piston rings stuck in closed position on one cylinder because we bought the truck with a rebuilt turbo. And we rebuilt it again.

    what oil are you using

    • @turbolabamerica
      @turbolabamerica  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm just using 10w 40 but you can use a specific oil called turbo oil to prime turbochargers. I can't seem to find turbo oil online but it is a product I commonly saw used at my my friend's work place as a diesel mechanic.

      +daniel canada I never had that problem with a 6.0 turbo before, usually if it happens on other turbos is because the collar in the backplate wasn't pushed all the way in.

      No because the compressor wheel always lines up in the same position because it's threaded

    does the turbo have to be machined?

    • @turbolabamerica
      @turbolabamerica  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you want to upgrade to the powermax 63.5 x 88 x 94 then the compressor housing and plate has to be machined. There are 3 variations of the Powerstroke 6.0 turbo, you can see the major differences here: th-cam.com/video/xoV7hS73hX4/w-d-xo.html

      Bill Sellers
      he snapped them into the housing, to make sure there was not excessive ware, and would still seal properly. After confirming that, he put the seals on the rod on the bushing and rod where they belong.
