Awwww...so sorry. I lost my mum (my best friend💔) in 2015. I remember many times dancin' with mum ....both when I was a kid, in our kitchen, and when she got older, in her sheltered home bungalow.
It has 5 million plus views now which is amazing for such and old band as it means they're still relevant today as they continue to attract a new fan base. This is classic Madness though a beautiful tune.. Only got to no. 88 in the charts though.. I think a more expensive imaginative video might have helped the song climb higher but for some reason it didn't do well in the charts. Maybe it didn't get enough air play as I think the BBC only focus on playing bands under 25 year of age now..
@@dfstarborn Well apart from 6 music and maybe radio 2 very few Radio stations would play it - they abandoned bands just because they've been around for a long time. Pathetic .
I've loved Madness since their first single. So many profoundly brilliant songs and tunes in the 80's. Never would have believed they'd save (arguably) their best for almost thirty years later.
This song always reminds me of a girl I met one night in the Ritzy in Tottenham. Never asked for her number and have regretted it ever since. We made such a connection that her pals asked if we’d met before. If you ever read this, get in touch. Guys and girls, if you ever experience the same don’t make my mistake.
I recently listened this song in my daughter’s car and I loved it. So, I found it here . Once a while I come here to enjoy listening it. Thank you guys, you are great!
Me too, I had this man that bought me a drink and I could never find him......I would just go out to dance in the 1980's, I just could not get it......but then I met this man, a little older than I, I was 33 or so, when I had to get work done on a vehicle........truth be told he knew all about me.......and I ended up married to him.........my late husband, an awesome man.....
I was born in 75 in London Paddington and I only got into them a few years before they ended the band. The best band I've ever heard in my life producing 17 top 10 singles full of bursting melodies.. They blew everyone away but should have had more no. 1.s. I think they had around 10 top 10 albums if not more and they have proved that they are still relevant today the mark of a brilliant band.
Me too, and not bragging but in my younger days, I met a classy guy, but had so many men after me, I was not a Melania Trump, but had the body and was very sexy, but had to be very careful......
Until today, I had never heard this outstandingly powerful tune. It stirs up memories of miniscule moments that still have an emotional impact, that continues, undiminished, despite the decades. It leads one to ask the billion dollar question: What could have been if...?
This song brings me tears each time I listen to it since I've been able to understand the lyrics. A simple yet beautiful love story. I'll never thank my father enough for making me discover this group.
I need to thank Radio Guerilla from Romania for playing this masterpiece some years ago. Since then, not a single year passed by without listening it on repeat for some weeks.

Lyrics:
It was very late in the discotheque
I was feeling blue as I sometimes do
I turned around it was time to go
A face in the crowd a face I didn't know
We got to talking for a little while
You said it's not the sort of thing you usually do
Talking to strangers so late in the night
These days you never know
Well I thought you were nice I even told you so
But you smiled so shyly and said to me
I bet you say that to all the girls you meet
But it isn't so
Yes, the club was closing so we had to leave
We walked out together just a little ill at ease
I would have liked to have walked you home
But you said you'd catch the bus so I ended up alone
I never knew your name nor your telephone number
Will I ever see you again? I wonder?
It wasn't any longer than an hour or two
That lonely street I said goodbye to you
You glanced back at me as I turned the corner
Was the last I saw of you
Oh I wanted to call, call out your name
But stupid pride and idiot shame
Hesitated, scared of playing the fool
So you walked away, from Mr Cool
I never knew your name nor your telephone number
Will I ever see you again? I wonder?
No, I never knew your name nor your telephone number
Will I see you again? Oh girl I wonder?
It was very late in the discotheque
I was feeling blue as I sometimes do
I thought you were nice I told you so
But I ended up alone
No, I never knew your name nor your telephone number
Will I ever see you again? Girl, I wonder?
It's so very late in the discotheque and I'm feeling blue
As I always do
I turn around 'cause its time to go
