    I feel like saying the keyboard is $110 is somewhat false advertising, as with a hotswap PCB + plate + shipping the total comes out to $172 minimum.

      lol relax bro. He says it “starts at $110.” It’s not false advertising at all. Adding the shipping costs that comes with 99% of non Amazon customs into the board price to claim “fAlSe ADveTiSing.” 🤦‍♂️

    I'm typing with the Neo80 right now. As someone who hadn't looked into the keyboard hobby for like 2-3 years, coming back and grabbing the Neo80, I've gotta say it's incredible that this board even exists. It sounds and feels incredible, and I'm also on the new mx2a switches that dropped somewhat recently lol. I'm in Cherry clack TKL heaven right now. Bless.
    Also this board is just so much fun to use, you can literally mess with the mount config in under 20 seconds. Still mind boggling to me that this is on my desk right now but here we are.

    • @esseyhabte306
      @esseyhabte306 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Are you using the mx2a switches stock and what config do you enjoy the most?

    • @Vosian
      @Vosian 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@esseyhabte306 i lubed them with 205g0 (stem only, I avoided lubing the top of the slider on the stem in hopes of not muting the upstroke/top-out and used .15mm films) and swapped the springs with aftermarket 55g springs. For the record I’ve never tried jwks or any of the nicer aftermarket switches but the switches do feel consistently smooth and tbh it’s not like you run cherry switches for smoothness anyway.
      As for the config, the differences are most noticeable in the modifiers and the alphas imo are really subtle in change; I could only tell in person and not through recorded audio. However, the gasket dumbbells seem to make the alphas pop way more than the rest of the mounting styles, and they’re just really fun to listen to. Even the soft typing pops. Right now I have the top left and top right brass pillars on and everything else gasket dumbbells. The important thing that I noticed (and this may be just me) is that the poppy alphas seem to be present if the mounts at the bottom are all dumbbells. For the record, I’m on an aluminum plate, of course, lol. I ran with the boring ol’ cherry blacks on alu with the retro white case haha, almost ran a beige set too.
      Anyways, those are my answers. 205g0 lubed MX2As on aluminum, I prefer the dumbbell mount sound, and I built the board with no foam (though swapping the case foam in and out will literally take 15 seconds). Best part about this board is you can run through every config and combination of mounting styles you want to try in less than hour and figure everything out lol. Cheers!

    • @esseyhabte306
      @esseyhabte306 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Wow I cannot thank you enough for that juicy analysis, you are goated for that. I too, am a sucker for mx blacks on aluminum boards or even browns, but I was definitely having trouble deciding on what to choose before purchasing as well as the figuring out what mounting style I think would suit me the most. It seems to me that the gasket dumbells sound the best with sandwich mount sounding similar to top mount and o-ring mount not really sounding too great IMO. I think I will give your config a go and then pick up an extra PC plate to try some mx browns on.
      I do have another question though as someone who's also been out of the hobby for a couple years now, I have been looking ever so often at what's new and trending in terms of switches and there seems to have been so many new variations of switches that I could not, for the life of me, keep up with (which is probably why I'm ultimately going with browns or blacks in another build lol), so in terms of smoothness how would you rate the new mx2a switches? Also, as I grew in the hobby I realized I hate lubing as its just too time consuming for me, so I guess what I'm asking is were the switches worth lubing? If so, do you have any alternative recommendations for mx black-like switches or even brown-like switches?@@Vosian

    • @Vosian
      @Vosian 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@esseyhabte306 for sure, if I were to have ordered an extra plate I definitely would’ve picked up a PC plate as well lol. I’ll be waiting for the extras sale.
      Uhhh I’m not gonna lie idk if I can help you with that second one LOL. I did try searching for how switches are because it’s definitely different now and, like…people rarely talk about switches these days it seems? They used to be all the rave. I think what happened is that you can just grab “pre-lubed JWK #837 strawberries” or whatever nowadays and be fine. But you know, seeing brand new variants of cherry switches during my search was definitely enticing haha, I had to go with that.
      Anyways, to actually answer: I think they were definitely worth lubing (man I really forgot how long it took to lube though) and they ended up pretty dang smooth. I noticed that the pre-lube job was very minimal on the stem but pretty liberal on the spring, with lube being visible there. I will say this, though: the classic cherry scratch sound is present in the switch’s stock form, and I have a sneaking suspicion that the stock browns on the PC plate might be a secret amazing build.
      As for alternatives if you really want smoothness and you don’t wanna lube? I can’t really help unfortunately haha. I do wanna pick up the BSUN BCPs sometime, though. It was a switch designed to imitate the BCP frakenswitch (as the name implies) and from I’ve heard it’s slightly different sounding, of course, but really really dang smooth and worth using stock if you enjoy BCP. Not sure if that’s your thing (also the stem travel is like 3.2mm which is crazy short, not gonna lie) but that’s all I got haha.
      edit:
      I’m also aware of light tactiles (browns) having more interest in the keeb hobby space these days, so if you want something really smooth with the cherry brown bump then you have options for that if you look. Anyways, gl!

He reviewed a plastic keyboard from a known ¨productivity¨ youtuber which has a sales price of $159 USD. This is your basic $30 USD plastic keyboard, without foams of any kind. So when you say that the NEO 80 costs $150 USD as you have it, I would say that YES, it is worth it!

    i agree, that qwertykeys products are really good. but i just recently found out, that the qk75(n) and qk80 do not use qmk firmwares. they also use a proprietary micro controller, so you cant set up your own qmk firmware.
    the neo boards also dont come with qmk firmwares.. this is might be a problem, if you want to configure parameters as for example the tap&hold delay.

      @@lllun4ryes, "based". that means, it will work with via(l) but the firmware is not maintained in theqmk_firmware repository. you will have to load the .json file every time and have a lot less configurability. also, the only way to change your keymap includes using a gui.
      I really don't mean to say, the qk/neo boards are bad (that would be stupid), i mean to inform about the firmware capabilities because this was quite disappointing to me.

    Great review as always, I really like a lot of the points you touched on. I have to disagree on one [admittedly very subjective] point though - to me the Neo 80 just sounds super hollow. I know you didn't really use any foams in the builds, but tbh I'm kind of sick of boards that sound so hollow and empty if you don't use a ton of foam. It doesn't seem ping-ey at all, which is great, and I like literally every other aspect of the board. I just...I don't know. Maybe I'm just looking at the wrong boards lately
    Also, yes please do a more detailed video on the roller linears! In fact, you haven't really done any switch-only videos lately, I miss those cause in the past I've really appreciated your approach to switch reviews

      @@fnvfanMSPR you gotta add 25 a plate, 5-10 for shipping and 6-12 for the wired or wireless hot swap pcb.
      Also if you go to checkout it says 37 euros in extra tax (I guess it's import taxes)
      so the total with 1 plate and shipping comes out to 190 euros!

    Am I seeing correctly that there is no option for screw-in stabs on this PCB? Anyone know why this is the case?

    • @kristerswenson6359
      @kristerswenson6359 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think I understand this better now: the stabs that come with the kit snap into the PCB, but we could buy other stabs that do screw together using the same holes. I suppose that Scott K. probably lubed these stabs, but I'm wondering if he did any other modifications (band aid, holee)?
