  • We're going with Ceph and its HCI based storage on our cluster so here is my terrible attempt at showing you what to do.
I wanted to leave the mistake in at the end just so you can see that I am still really new to all this Proxmox but even when you make mistakes you can fix them.
Also I was reading that when using RBD you should have 2 pools but I won't be following that currently for what I'm trying to show off.
I may not have the migration video out for a bit because what I'm learning so far is that I don't know how to properly use ovftool but I'd like to come up with some fancy ways to use it for you all so I'll be working on that for a bit.
All config files will be here: github.com/smitch35/SysAdminS...

Great video, but you need to boost your audio volume quite a bit.

Yes I didn't catch this one until late. There is a piece of software that likes to auto enable AI noise cancelation and I forgot to check it.

Is it possible to create a crush map profile that use Erasure Coding in place of Replicate to optimize storage capacity ?

Honestly I can't sat that I've even looked into anything like that. I'd have to do some research as I'm still fairly new to the ins and out of ceph

    Hi,
would you rather use Proxmox with CEPH or RHEL with CEPH for business production 24/7 use?
    Thanks!

Good question. Hadn't considered a rhel option at all cause of their price system for our type of org

You can't use raid for ceph. There's two ways you can go about it, a bad way and another way. The bad way, I'm told, is to made each disk a "raid" that way they all just look like disks to ceph. I'm told this can cause data issues over time. That's not a big deal for me since I'll be reloading everything frequently.
The other way is to find out if your raid card can be flashed from its standard mode to what I believe is called "IT mode" this has its own struggles in my mind but I may buy a spare raid card and try it for a video.
There's actually a third option and that is to swap the perc raid card out and use a sata card for the drives instead.
