      The Tesla driver they parked next to you was not nosing by you foe no reason. He was just parking next to you to make sure once you left that he could pull in to your spot to charge. If he parked further away then other cars needing to charge would not notice that he had been waiting and would pull into the spot you left before he got there.
      Very glad you got this opportunity to broadcast this event!

      I find them rather misleading. Take the cybertruck test as example. He claims it was done at 45F where it was 38-45F which reduces range by 20% compared to EPA 68-86F spec
      Then he did it at 700ft instead of 4000ft for the rivian and f150. Reduction of 20% resistance due to thinner air at higher elevation
      Then he compares it to EPA and claims Tesla never makes it claimed range. This is so misleading as it is not claimed range but EPA estimate based on tests at EPA specification.
      Then his test are done at 70MPH not 48MPH average EPA speed.
      Fine if you like to do a test at 70MPH but don't compare it to the given EPA range
      But anyway, I don't beleive this is because he is a bit dumb and don't know how to do a test properly. I beleive it is misleading and I know that Ford pays billions in marketing, would it not be easy to give this guy a few pennies and he is happy to slightly mislead here and there..... we will probably never know but his tests stinks.

    • @lv_q3259
      @lv_q3259 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@bartdeking Kyle explained all the adverse factors in that Cybertruck range test, including altitude, tires, ambient temps, and more. Kyle also explained that he'd be repeating the test in Colorado as soon as he gets a chance, to better match his standard 70mph tests.
      Out of Spec has done dozens of tests at 70mph across different models and brands, for cross comparison. Why 70mph and not mixed 48mph? It's because that's a real world speed, across long distances, where consumers start developing range anxiety.
      For someone who's never posted an EV range test video, along with explaining your methodology and rationale, then criticizing the consistent detailed testing premises given by Kyle and his entire OOS team, I'm afraid your the one sounding a bit dumb.

    • @bartdeking
      @bartdeking 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @lv_q3259 @lv_q3259 you don't seem to read my comment properly.
      1, I have not problem if they do a 70mph test to give consumers an idea how much range they get on a road trip but DO NOT compare it to the range specified according to EPA specifications given on the tesla website. DO NOT even mention it since it is misleading as it presents like Tesla is lying or not giving a correct range. This is not true.
      EPA was initially intended to give an average consumption for average driving NOT a how far do I het on a long road trip I make twice a year test.
      In other word you can not say, I drove 70mph in 42F and got 256mi which is lower than the 318 specified by tesla. Simply because the 318mi is specified at EPA test specifications with an average of 48MPH and 68-86F.
      Likely it would add 5-10% extra range if you would test it at the same temperatures the rivian and f150 was tested.
      2, Yes he mentioned 700ft but instead of 4000ft but why did he at the end of the video not correct for it. He could have said, the distance was 256 miles but with known data that 700ft vs 4000ft elevation difference we need to correct it by 20% to be able to compare it with the F150 and rivian which likely comes around 307mi if we would compare it in similar conditions
      3, he mentioned indeed that the temperature was 45F and was used by ALL other media as the temperature for the test. However, if you bothered checking the video in detail and do some fact checking than you can see that temperatures are 38-45F mostly around 41-42F
      On your last comment, I would indeed only do a comparison test in the same conditions and when someone plays games on TH-cam I am happy to point this out and wish that everyone would see how misleading the out of spec channel is.
      The narrative set is that CT is worse in range than rivian and f150 but in reality this is simply not true. Especially when it comes to wh/mi
      Yes he promised another video where he would do the test properly but it is yet to come and the misleading narrative has been set already.

    Kyle, what happens if you park with the parking space line in the middle of the truck instead of parking in between the lines of the parking space? Will the cable reach then? This would alleviate the fact that Ford vehicles block two chargers when they charge at a Supercharger. They could just repaint the lane lines then and you would never have chargers go wasted because a CCS1 vehicle was blocking them.

    • @Techridr
      @Techridr 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      The cables at those existing stations are only JUST long enough to reach the way it's now parked. New Supercharger stations will have longer cables and/or pull-through parking. I expect some growing pains as this transitions, but in a year or so, I'd expect all this to be sorted out.

    Regarding the taking up 2 spots problem, Ford owners should keep this in mind when visiting a V3 Tesla Supercharger and if they have one that is positioned for front pull in at the edge, which I've seen at several locations, use that spot if available, as it's the one spot where you can probably safely park and charge without taking up more than 1 parking spot (you'll be poking your butt out of the spot by quite a bit, but if it's at the edge and doesn't block traffic, it's the best option).

    Maybe this is great day for other non-Tesla owners, but for us Tesla owners this isn't a good day, especially when all slow speed charging vehicles start to occupy 2 or more spots. So now we have options to wait free spot on V3 or to go occupied V2 and charge on painfully 75kw or less. This will increase travel times a lot. I am hoping that hire charging prices for other non-Tesla vehicles will offset that problem a little bit.

    I gotta say... I talked to a tech in Georgia who was updating a V3 Supercharger. He said (at the end of January) that the only state left was Alabama and it was update a component inside the V3s to work with the adapter. All V3s made since summer 2023 already had the components and by March 1st the chargers would be updated and all V3s would work with this adapter. That's what the tech told me at the end of January in Madison, Georgia at a Supercharger.

    As a Tesla owner who roadtrips 3-4 times a month, I am delighted to see other EVs able to use the Supercharger network and hasten the EV transition. However, I am concerned that the Tesla routing software will be showing open dispensers at a location that are, in fact, being blocked by non-Teslas who take up 2 dispensers (from a Tesla perspective). I hope Tesla will somehow figure a way to show that 2 dispensers are in use when a Ford or Rivian or Mercedes rolls up and plugs in "backwards".
    I live down the street from the Tesla v4 dispenser in Columbia, SC that a couple of TH-camrs have featured and see how this problem will eventually go away with the new universal dispenser design. However, I am sadly considering going back to ICE for a couple of years if I start to run into this problem repeatedly over the next few months.

      Blocking 2 bays is an issue in Europe as there’s no standard determining which side of the vehicle to put the charge socket. Tesla chargers are more exposed as their cables are relatively short, even the newer ones. It’s common to come across a VW or similar taking up two bays. However Europeans generally do not need unnecessary adapters as there was a snowball’s chance in hell that the EU would adopt Tesla’s charging standard and hence Tesla uses type 2 in Europe.

    Yesterday, I found a Tesla super charger station off I-20, in Texas in a very rural area, 5 minutes from where I work. i was shocked and excited. I personal have never owned, driven or rode in an EV but, would buy one, IF/When the chargers are available everywhere and reliable. I think the manufactures that are switching to Tesla super chargers made the right decision. Masses of People will not buy EV's, regardless of what DC mandates, until they can charge them on the road, everywhere, and I'm one of those people. Charging stations have to be on every corner, just like gas powered vehicle station or EV adoption will fail. I support electric vehicles and hope, that this change to Tesla charges works! This channel has been a great place to learn all things EV and I enjoy the content...Keep up the good work, i looking forward to continue learning & hopefully, in the not to distant future I'll be an EV owner, but it wont be a Tesla, lol!

    I am a Canadian Tesla owner for the past 2 years and have never had a charging issue of any kind with Tesla’s super charger, EA Canada or The Circuit Electric (flo) chargers. I see all this as a win win for everyone in the long term, the more EV’S charge at Tesla superchargers the more Tesla will install Tesla superchargers even in remote areas with less population. Thanks Kyle for another great video.

    One question I have: I know it's not on the instructions pamphlet, but can you plug in the adapter into the truck first, then plug in the charging cable into the adapter? That would allow for one-handed use to begin charging. I can see that you will still need 2 hands to disconnect the charging cable from the adapter with that release lever, but I'm just thinking about convenience and ADA support for people with disabilities.
