My memories of going to OT in the seventies. Queuing to get in the Stretford End down United Road. The train stalling (fans bouncing) outside OT after United scored two late goals against Chelsea. Singing all the players names before kick off until they waved.Bomb scares. Stewart Houston kicking the ball in the United Road stand every game. Doc Martins, scarfs round wrists, beer passed down the Stretford End, wagon wheels, scoreboard paddock, stretford paddock, wooden stands, fencing, big games turnstiles locked at half one, crushed against barriers. Sunderland 3-2 62,000. The banter in the Stretford (we are the left side). Sitting on the side of the pitch against Blackpool. LMTB, token sheets, the tunnel, Hill, Coppell, Pearson, Daly, Albiston, Big Jim, Buchan, Forsyth. Happy days but there have been many happy days at OT since.

Stephen, this is absolutely wonderful. My first game was 1957 cup final. Your grandad's memories are just what I remember! I was 7 at the time. Big respect and admiration for your grandad. What a marvellous man.

Even in the mid 60s it was common practice to go Old Trafford one week and Maine Rd the next, travelling to away games was too expensive for working class supporters as a whole.

Tommy Bogan has a history. He can claim one of the shortest international careers. He played for Scotland against England and broke his leg in a collision with frank Swift. Never played for Scotland again. He went on to work at the Manchester Evening News .
I can remember about 1955 when it was 1 shilling and 6d (not P... prior to decimalisation) for an adult to go into the standing areas and 9d for juniors. Reserve games were 6d for an adult and 3d for a junior. I lived in Gorse Hill Stretford. I was allow to go as long as my next door neighbour was going. He was 11 . I was 3 years his junior.
How come no song for Bobby Charlton. United's biggest legend.
