  • If someone makes a public apology for “speaking incorrectly” but mis-states what actually happened when they did so, is the apology genuine?

More importantly, why was this 'error' not corrected until Dr Sarah Wilkinson pointed it out in her report, LONG before the Synod met in February 2024 ? Why was it not corrected in the reports of the General Synod which are published after each group of sessions ? In addition, it should be noted that the Secretary General Mr William Nye was sitting on the platform on Sunday 9th July. He surely should have known as the Secretary to the Archbishops' Council that the vote had not been unanimous, so why he did he stay silent and not correct this major 'error' at once ? There is only one conclusion to be drawn here - the Church hierarchy were happy to leave the Synod in ignorance about the fact that a number of members of the Archbishops' Council did not want the ISB wound up and thereby implicate them in this disgraceful decision.
That's the problem with cover-ups. When they fall apart they usually do so catastrophically.

Sadly this archbishop is unable to be truthful on a matter of fact, and if so, then no wonder his take on doctrine is also dodgy. Welby is equally evasive and lacking in transparency. When it comes to transparency on matters they are not personally embarrassed about, they're all for it, but when it is personally embarrassing, they are less forthcoming. when it comes to safeguarding, cover ups have been the usual method of dealing with issues because bishops have failed to do what Jesus would do. Holy Spirit revelation is completely lacking because He would know what needed to be done.

Stephen Cottrell was caught out lying when he was Bishop of Chelmsford. Interestingly I recently met someone on a cruise who was part of the Chelmsford diocese administration team when he was bishop. They didn't have one good word to say about Stephen Cottrell

Every organisation should have a clear, transparent and legally founded safeguarding policy. This is to protect both the organisation and the people it serves.

Not surprising to me that Bishops and Aarchbishops lie to cover up their lies..Its the reason churches are empty and they are now a group of men who are in an endless loop of smug slf satisfaction and not a group of men who actually follow the teaching of Christ . The reek of self importance and priviledge

Chris, it’s not wise to give up on #Jesus. Give up on the Church of England if you like, but don’t give up on the Saviour of the World. 🌎

@@aclark903 I have not necessarily given up on God but the gospels were written around 100 years after Jesus was born and so they are not necessarily accurate and even not written by anybody who was alive when Jesus was alive. The passage I find hardest to digest is the line “suffer the little children to come unto me”. I don’t think that any all powerful and loving God would allow innocent children to die of a painful illness. So, that passage sounds to me like somebody has just made up a line to give God a get out of jail card. It’s definitely not loving to allow children to die of cancer.

Interesting to note at 12:00: when Gavin asked if a complaint under the Clergy Discipline Measure (CDM) had been lodged, the Archbishop's spokesperson declined to comment, citing the legally dubious provisions of the CDM rules. However, if no complaint had been lodged, those rules wouldn't apply, so the spokesperson could have answered 'No'. But they didn't, meaning they felt the rules of the CDM >did< apply, which can only be the case if a complaint >has< been lodged.

they sacked the people they had taken on to review safeguarding. The ISB stands for the independent safeguarding board and included some of the UK's most experienced safeguarding experts. They did their job too well and the church sacked them just before a report was due out. Without notice, endangering the survivors who had worked with them. In a nutshell the church leaders think they are in politics and don't want to sort out their abuse issues.
