Archbishop Welby’s statement is 'disingenuous if not duplicitous.' - James Wong, Foley Beach

- Claims today that the global leader of the Anglican Church is out of step with God.
The Primates of the Global Anglican Fellowship (GAFCON), meeting in Kigali Rwanda, have said that Archbishop Justin Welby has,
‘Departed from the authentic exercise of his office by normalising and praising those who have departed from biblical teaching and practice…and giving equal place to practices contrary to biblical norms, as Anglicans have received them. We urge him to repent.’ (bit.ly/3DmPVas)
And the Archbishop of Canterbury’s explanations are described as 'disingenuous if not duplicitous'.
The GAFCON Primates statement comes on top of the statement from the Global South Fellowship of Anglican Churches, which if anything, is even stronger.
The Global South Fellowship says,
‘Archbishop Welby’s first position is lamentable; his second is repugnant to our understanding of the authority and clarity of Holy Scripture. The notion of ‘pluriform’ truth is contrary to the Anglican Ordinal which binds duly consecrated bishops to be responsible for the guarding, teaching and imparting of divine truth in Holy Scripture.’ (bit.ly/3smoqas)
Archbishop Welby’s actions, which have provoked the criticisms, are his appointment of a new Dean of Canterbury (the lead minister of Canterbury Cathedral in the UK) of a man in a civil same sex partnership.
The Global South statement says,
‘It feels as if the present Archbishop of Canterbury has shut the door of the [Canterbury] Cathedral to orthodox bishops, clergy and members of the [Anglican] Communion.’ (bit.ly/3smoqas)

Good to see that Orthodox Anglo Catholic Christians are taking back control of their Church.
Thank God for GAFCON, in giving clergy and laity a voice in clarifying basic scriptural teachings and countering the destructive confusion and division caused by leaders who refuse to reject anti-biblical teaching and practice. God bless everyone struggling through these testing times to proclaim Christ’s Gospel of Salvation through his finished work on the cross and his victorious resurrection and empowering work of the holy spirit.

As for calling these men hungry for something to do, I can personally testify having been wonderfully supported by Sydney Anglican, GAFCON leaning people when alone camping in the blue mountains. They showed tremendous love and fellowship that got me to the next stage of my life. I saw AGAPE as well. As for rules, we know Jesus has paid the full price of our sins, but as for speaking for GOD, and male power which I have seen as loving leadership, I’ll let the scriptures do that! They are simply trying their best to follow biblical teaching and cop a lot of flack for it. It would be much easier to go the way of the mainstream. I am no-one of much significance - not a teacher like yourself, but am glad you are maybe saving someone from suicide or gnawing loneliness. I have been in similar ministry and know the realities of what society does to the oppressed.

Margaret you are correct as the msm in Uk seem to be told what to do say and on all issues now . I came across this channel as I'm being drawn to a more spiritual life again and discovered this story . We have heard some horrendous storys with small people over the years during inquiries and that dimishes pèoples confidence in the church. But hearing this story I know they would be truly shocked and would be supportive of not rewriting the Bible ! This weekend we are paying for the big doo and someone mentioned 1 hundred million pounds ! Just think what that money could do for so many .

We have no hope of seeing Welby repent. In his mind he has done nothing wrong. He is an apostate and has to go. However, due to the fact that most bishops agree with him, that won't happen. Clergy/ lay have said very little, so why are we so shocked now with this behaviour from Welby and others. Great that GAFCON are around, but actions should have taken place years ago to challenge these false teachers. I had high hopes for the Anglican Church when Welby was appointed Arch Bishop of Canterbury. Hearing of his anti Biblical stance on marriage and other gender issues, I have come to the sad conclusion that he has fallen short of his calling and office. I wouldn’t like to be in his shoes when facing God on his stance of anti biblical issues.

Justin Welby is someone who came to the ministry late in life having spent most of it in banking. He has a history of going against the teachings of the bible. Take heart the Lord sees what he is doing and knows the thoughts of this man and he will deal with him accordingly.

Anglicans would have been aware of this every time the bishopry refer to tradition whenever the world confront them on the media. The bishopry are appointed by men and NOT God. My opinion - They did not directly demand it (resignation) because they were still extending grace to Welby. One of them did say he cannot see any repentance taking place anytime soon. CofE is imploding. Very much like what will happen to some parts of the church in the end days.

I wrote a letter to the priest at our Anglican Church in East London, SA, about four years ago. I was distraught at the way the Anglican church had veered totally off course. It is niw my h wise and u have nit found a church yo go to. Teachings and the turning against Israel by the Bishops in South Africa was the last straw. the Arch Bishop Tutu's statement about gay priests not being accepted and would not go to Heaven ..... his words were apparently.,"Then I don't want to go to that Heaven" was just another nail in the coffin for me. I do not attend church now but would do so if I could find a church that genuinely preached the WHOLE GOSPEL and not anything added or taken away from it. we truly are in end times

Ephesians 5:32 tells of the deep spiritual aspect behind marriage as God decreed - to be between man and woman (procreation) and a picture of Christ Jesus the Bridegroom and His church, the bride - to the world. Politician are ex bankers. It's simple. Welby is continuing the work of Globalists, of which he is one, from within the Church while the Pope is doing his bit for the Catholic Church. Archbishop Vigano had written a book about him. The downfall of these churches is part of the Woke agenda linked with one of the aims of the Globalists, a one world church.
UK Anglicanism does not recognise the primacy of scripture. GAFCON does. In the UK we are taught that 'Reason' and 'Tradition' are equally authoritative in determining what is and is not legitimate in the Church. It is asserted that it is the interpreter of scripture that determines what the scripture is saying, the scripture itself has no agency. For this reason we all interpret scripture differently and therefore diversity must be embraced and celebrated. Unity in the church is to be replaced by tolerance of the other. The consequence is that there is no such thing as objective truth. Any claim in this regarded is considered naive or primitive. This is a radical departure from historic Christianity which is why Liberals are so keen to embrace the 'new' moves of the Spirit, rather than the deadening letter of the law. Make no mistake, Liberals have hijacked the Anglican Church and are working tirelessly to legitimise homosexuality within it. At this moment the General Synod is loaded with homosexual lobbyists who are planning to assert gay rights at the February Synod meeting and with Welby at the helm, who can doubt that they will succeed?
Gavin Ashendon spoke to this when he found that trying to locate or support orthodoxy in Anglicanism was impossible if there was no authority based in external Truth, rather consensus, more or less, is only referenced to individual interpretations. The personal interpretive internal locus for “truth” is by default relativistic, thus must admit diversity such as ss marriage, women ordination etc. There is simply no rational way to object.
I left the Anglican Church many years ago. At the time, I was sad to do it, but it was the right decision.

Strong words at last. Sadly far too late. The opponents we face who want the church to become nothing more than a reflection of societal norms have benefited hugely by only being criticised in mealy mouthed hushed terms.
I am so glad to be a non-denominational devout radical Christian. I can be as radical in my worship unto God as much as I desire. I am free from all this bondage of being tied to unbiblical compromising leaders, who have no regard for the foundational tenets of the holy and precious scriptures. What an insult to the spilt blood of Christ on the cross. I am shocked to hear that Justin Welby is so compromised. He vacillates between two opinions. Not uplifting for the sheep. By the way, do these leaders ever think about their sheep or are they more concerned about politics? God have mercy.
As a Coptic Orthodox I am praying that these woke manipulatives in ALL churches cease their heresy and return to Christ.

It is sad after hearing the statements. In my mind the Archbishop will retire but after the Coronation he will crown the king unless he retires before the end of the year, but to blame the late Queen is unexeptable

It is called heresy, strange fire and apostacy. God calls believers to 'come out from amongst them'. Down the years since I was called out, I have been accused of being backslidden, yet continued to walk with the Lord and follow His leadings despite the hurt from 'church'. There is only one church that God recognises and that is His church. He never called men to religion but to repentance into a relationship living and vital, with Him. He never called us to follow men or denominations, but His Son Jesus Christ. He calls us out of the traditions of men and into His glorious kingdom. He calls us to be taught by His Spirit not the doctrines of demons. He also is seperating the sheep from the goats, the chaff from the wheat and tares and the wolves come to the fore devouring His sheep. Today, if you hear HIS voice don't turn away and shut Him out because time is almost over for the church age. The Bridegroom cometh!!
Welby is leading the descent into Apostasy by the Anglican church
The Church of England is apostate. The Anglican church in Africa is very much in line with the Bible. Nigeria alone has 18 million Anglicans, and I think there are some 40 million on that continent.
@Babouin X The African church will always reject Gay marriage and blessings. Influencing Welby is a different thing. Maybe in future the Lambeth conference should be held in Nigeria. They've got 18 million practising Anglicans. England probably has a million who actually go to church.

By its own decision, the CofE is no longer a church. May the true Anglican Church move on with the blessing of Christ. The gates of hell cannot stand against it.
Welby, has been for some time a gift to Islam. With Christian Clergy such as him, Christianity has no future.
The former Prime Minister, David Cameron, who enacted into law “same-sex marriage” (that is NOT biblical marriage), who appointed Justin Welby as the Archbishop of Canterbury.
If the Anglican Communion had a politician who legalised “same-sex marriages” into UK law, appoint Justin Welby, as a politically-appointed spiritual leader, is there any wonder that Justin Welby (a political appointee) would try and force the Anglican Communion to “bless same-sex unions”?

When I first became aware of this great error at the very top of the Church, I immediately thought of the CoE now becoming an Apostate Church. I pray that Welby etal repent and return to Orthodox teaching. God will never allow sin to govern His Church. Thank God for the faithful Bishops we do have. Welby does not know Christ, he is not born again and has no conception of living life in the Holy Spirit. This is the reason he looks at Scripture from only a humanistic view. He is a servant of secularism, not a servant of Christ. His appointment has been made by political leaders, not by Christ. Therefore he follows the way of the world not the Word!
Today to be saved according to our apostle Paul,you must BELIEVE/TRUST that Jesus Christ died on the cross for your sins,was buried,and rose again on the third day, and that He Shed His Blood as payment for all of your sins forever,( you personally).

He went to Eton like many of the elite. They think they have a right to rule. And he worked for oil companies in the past so of course he has money.
Sadly the Church of England is affected by the prevailing political will in the country, and feels it must comply with what politicians think is right.
My thought is that if Justin Welby has to choose between losing a large part of the Anglican Communion (most of which is a long way away & doesn't affect the Abp's status in England) and losiing a small part of the CofE (but keeping the Abp's status + the approval of English society) , on balance he will keep as much as he can of the CofE even if it means losing most Anglicans overseas.
Luckily he is no Pope and what the CofE does has no bearing on us. More sad is that some here in Melbourne are following along....I think the main driver is pastoral in that there is in increase of particularly children of parishioners who are saying they are LGBTI+ and people are stuck on how to speak the truth in love against a backdrop of severe hate and violence here in the 80s. God have mercy on us.

Too late for repentance, the lgbtq has got their hooks into the Anglican Church and there’s no going back. There’s only departure for the faithful.
He & liberals & broadly affirming bishops will refuse to ordain conservative & traditionally affirming ordinands .
I'm an atheist, but I respect other people's religious beliefs. Personally, I cannot see how a man who builds his religious beliefs on the rock called the Bible can possibly believe that homosexual marriage can be blessed in his church. What hypocrisy! If your beliefs are genuine, you sometimes have to stand up and be counted - not give in just because being trendy might capture a few more members.
I am not too familiar with the Bible, but I do know that its rules on homosexuality are crystal clear. Dr. Welby should resign.

With less than 1% of the UK population attending regular church, Archbishop Welby is attempting to broaden the appeal of the Anglican Church, and has support from a number of Bishops who are asking for same sex couples to be allowed to marry in church , arguing that this is the Christian thing to do.
Much theological discussion and possible splits in the church will undoubtedly ensue

ITS good to weed out the homophobics
There has been much theological discussion on this issue for 6 years. We are not called to broaden our appeal but to be faithful to God even if in the process we are hated, persecuted and misunderstood. Jesus taught "Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake" There are some parts of scripture which need more studying than others. Sexual morality and the boundary lines are not one of them. The Bible is quite clear on this matter.

At least the church after hundreds of years of debate and discussion finally decided keeping slaves and profiting from them was un Christian. Also accepting Evolution by natural selection was a progress.

@@iainrae6159 if you look at New Testament teaching on slavery Paul quietly laid down the baton which those such as Wilberforce would later run with.( 1 Corinthians 7 vs 21). It is important to note that Paul was not called to be a social reformer but to lay down the foundations of the gospel. He had a strong sense of urgency. (the appointrd time is very short) seeing the Lord's return as imminent. Jesus said no one would know the exact time of his return ) With this sense of urgency Paul wrote to the Corinthians addressing various people groups and urged each group not to move from the life situations they were in at the time ( eg. married, single, divorced, widowed, circumsisee). But when he come to those people who were slaves he urges this group and only this group to "gain their freedom if they have opportunity" That was the ONLY group he urged to change their life situation and even went on to say that being a slave and a Christian were actually not compatible "You were bought with a price do not not become slaves of men" . He had a great sense of urgency " But what he did say on the matter of slavery was revolutionary to the point of shocking. In another place he tells slaves and thrir owners that the masters and the slaves were of equal status and Christians masters and slaves were brothers in the Lord, and should show each other mutual respect but not to take advntage of this new relationship. Such a relationship betwen slaves and their masters would have been unthinkable in those times. In the letter to Philemon when he returns Onesimus his owner to his master he tells Philemon that he (Paul) in retuning Onesimus is "sending my very heart".. "that you might have him (Onesimus) back no longer as a slave but more than that as a beloved brother: And it got worse. Paul instructed Philemon to treat Onesimus as he would himself ( Paul) "receive him as you would me" Again this would have bern unthinkable in those times. Apparently 40% of trade depended on slavery so it woyld probably have been impossible to change the system overnight. But Paul even with his strong sense of urgency taught how slaves should be treated in the immediate situation. Wilberforce and others had plenty of scriptural backing with which ti fight the cause of abolition. Forgive me but Christians are often very flimsy when it comes to fully looking into what the scriptures actually do say and very given following common assumptions.
