    The main problem with the XE4 is that people was expecting so much from it that it ended up disappointing.
    I understand what Fuji is doing with the design; mainly providing a more affordable/versatile option to the X100V by making some compromises. I know, I know, they could have kept a couple of simple stuff like the dial and so, just think they wanted to make a sleeker, more minimalist body.

      Yes, you are right. There were high expectations. I am still disappointed mainly that they didn't include IBIS. I do understand that this is not the Fuji body line where IBIS was to be expected, but looking over to other manufacturers ... it's just something that has become commonplace by now, and it's a very useful feature.
      Like you, I like the reduced body style with the few buttons. There was also some discussion going on about the lack of the d-pad when the X-E3 came out, and back then I really liked that Fuji did away with it (but they added the joystick).
      I hope that Fuji has enough X-E4 sales because this line is really very important for Fuji lovers. On the other hand, I find it hard to justify the expense over the X-E3. Maybe X-E4 prices come down a bit over time. I have a feeling that this is a body where Fuji can lower the price a bit in the future and still make a profit.

    I agree with you on all points you raised, I too own the X-E3 and have been waiting for the X-E4, hoping they would retain the style of the E3 but add the flip screen and new sensors. Which they have but I’m not sure about the lack of grips and the missing rear dial? I’ll have to wait to handle one to see if it’s worth upgrading. IBIS would have been great but knew that wasn’t going to happen at this price point, same again with the weather sealing.
    Incidentally I also liked the Olympus Pen F, the only other camera that I think I would buy if one came along at the right price. Now if Olympus could fit IBiS in a M4/3 camera way back when, why couldn’t Fuji do it now? Anyway it is what it is,

    Hi Tom I enjoy your videos. I would like to try an X-E3 at some point they look cool cameras pity the view finder not great though. I don't think the X-E4 is for me but your very into this deign of camera. I'm more the X-T line myself.......thanks for showing this

    • @tomscameras
      @tomscameras  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I get that many will actually rather prefer the X-E3 over the X-E4 because of the additional buttons. In my case, I do sometimes miss the physical AF switch on the X-E4, for example. Overall, the X-T's are also fantastic options of course. They also offer much nicer and bigger viewfinders!

    You have just put me off the X-E4! Not that I could afford one...
    Good review and well presented in a calm way.
    Only one gripe, please don't add music to future videos, it is distracting.

    Hello. Thanks for your review. I have a question from the past, but maybe you can help me. I choose between x-e3 and x-t20. The x-e3 has bluetooth, the x-t20 doesn't have it, but there is wi-fi. In some videos, I saw that it is also possible to transfer photos from the camera to the phone via Wi-Fi. Please tell me why bluetooth then? What is his advantage on x-e3? I would be very grateful for your answer.

    • @tomscameras
      @tomscameras  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey! I'm not a huge expert on these things but afaik the X-E3's bluetooth makes pairing with your smartphone (or tablet ...) quicker and easier. For the actual transfer of images, it still will use wifi.
      You can also pair the X-E3 with your smartphone via bluetooth and then it will geo-tag all the locations of the photos that you take.
      Have a look at this link: Maybe it helps to answer your questions:

    At the moment you can get a new X-E3 for £329 in the uk if you shop around - a bargain in my opinion.

      That would be one hell of a deal. The X-E3 sells for about $100USD less than an E4 and from listings i've seen in Euros it wasn't much different. The price of the X-E3 didn't drop at all with the announcement of the E4 because it doesn't change the value of the older model. Fuji X series (less so with the flagship t1.t2.t3.t4 than the middle market models), tend to retain their value because they are not really about the newest tech.
      There have been so many videos this week comparing the E3 to the E4 and it's just a new sensor, articulating screen and some cosmetic changes to the controls. The new sensor is backlit gives an extra 200 x160 pixels or something negligible. It is backlit so it has more noise in low-light situations according to some but doing side-by-side comparisons I can't tell any difference between images taken with E3 or E4. It has the ability to shoot video at resolutions identical when viewed by the human eye,(which your cell phone can do anyway), but no one gets an E4 to shoot video anyway.
      The only thing that I actually care about are the new film simulations that Fuji refuses to release to lder models to try to force users to upgrade. I only shoot fui for SOOC jpegs when I don't want to edit so that shit's important to me. I'm not going to pay $900 for film simulations though.
      It is not weather sealed but neither was the 2 or 3 and I had my X-E3 out shooting in snow and rain storms al the time as recently as this week. I spent 4 years in art school majoring in photography and I never heard anyone ever use the term weather sealing.
      For years I filmed and photographed skateboarding and i've had cameras and lenses beaten brutally by skateboards that crashed into them at high speeds.
      When did this become something people are concerned about? What situations are you getting yourselves into? I also see people holding camera bodies with the sensor exposed and the lens off all the time and presumably we are all changing lenses in the field at some point. With mirrorless cameras the sensor r is exposed and can so easily be bumped, scratched, or some salt water, sand, or dust on it.
      I don't give a shit about weather sealing but if they want to do something how about Fuji put some simple little safety shutter that clovers the sensor before the lens is taken off.

      @joetreadonme There are some nice X-E3 deals in Central Europe, at least. Just an example, my local photo dealer in Cologne sells it for 749€ with the 18-55/2.8-4. This deal includes 200€ Fuji cashback. Also saw it for 499€ with the small 15-45 kit lens from a Dutch online dealer but I am not sure if they still have that offer.
      I read however on fujirumors that there are currently no good Fuji offers / cashback programs in the U.S. and no one really understands why.

    Honestly, I think the xe4 is fuji's worst camera in years; Leica looks aside, I'd like a camera had a decent grip out of the box and didnt need an accessory grip to be... usable.. I was hoping they reintroduced a flash, maybe x100 style and as for the flippy screen.. that is like 7-8 years late. Was hoping to get one, but it looks a lot like a toy for leica hipsters while the x-s10 is much more like a real camera, plus the IBIS.

    • @tomscameras
      @tomscameras  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well let's say: the good thing is, Fuji does offer the X-S10 as well, so there are some alternatives ;)
      Personally I still like the X-E4 overall, as you can tell from my video, but yes it is just not what it could have been ...
