    Hey there. I thought I'd give you a tip. When using a laser printer, you don't have to add lacquer or any other spray fixative or protectant layer to your printed images. Laser printers use toner, which is essentially a plastic colored powder that is heated with the laser toner, which melts the colored plastic powder (toner) onto your paper (or, in this case, vinyl). Laser toner is completely waterproof because it is not "ink". I was searching for somebody who had tried to print on vinyl with a laser printer because I knew it would save me some money to print my own designs with my laser printer, then cut the designs with my cricut. I'm glad I found your video. I wasn't sure if the heat from the laser printer would melt the vinyl or ruin the printer by melting the vinyl into the printer! YIKES! So, I'm glad it worked for you. So, this is a bonus for both of us. You don't have to spray those skickers. They will not bleed. The toner is just melted plastic, so it's kind of like adding another layer of plastic to your sheet plastic (vinyl). I hope this helps! By the way... great video. You took your time to help people, and adding each phase of the process is helpful to people.

      It may depend on the "laser" printer/toner. I just tried printing on Oracal 651 using my Ricoh LED "laser" printer, and the image will easily scrape off with a fingernail.

      No offence but you have no clue what you are talking about.
      Laser printers are not a better buy and not cheaper……have you compared toner carts to a Epson eco tank ink jet?
      I don’t know why you are saying Laser toner is water proof and “ink” is not , that is false.
      Also “ink” is waterproof.
      If you are using non waterproof ink it is because you have no clue what you are doing and are using Dye ink and not pigment ink like you should…….
      Cheap crap inkjet printers have dye ink.
      People that know the business use pigment ink which is based on the price of the printer you gotta spend around $800-$1000 for a good pigment ink ink jet printer.
      I’ve put my t-shirts printed with “ink” threw threw a wash test…..
      Went threw 25 times……
      Strange how you say ink is not waterproof but sure enough no special treatment just print to wash 25 times and it’s still all there……
      Stickers I print no special treatment just plain vinyl and or glue backed paper I have left in a glass of water overnight…….no colour bleed.
      Can you define your definition of waterproof please?
      PS: I use a Epson Eco tank ET-5170 Inkjet to print stickers,t-shirts,bags,hoodies,pants,work uniforms,ect…….no issues with water.

      @@oldstoic3154 I do it all with heat transfer. My shirts pass the 5 wash test and then it passed the knife test, where I literally take a steak knife and try and scrape it off…..doesn’t come off……. This @abnormalarts has done next to no research and has no clue what they are talking about and is giving people store ly bad advice, laser printers you should avoid like the plague seriously that are all trash every single one of them literally. Biggest money sinks around.

      Gday, I have an okipro8432wt and I printed staright onto white vinyl. It scratches off very easily so you have to apply a laminate of sorts else it's all over red rover.

    • @Door26-mi3fz
      @Door26-mi3fz 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@_desertwalker_ you would need to get a vinyl for laser printers they are available. The reason why it’s scratching off is your paper setting. You would need to go to a heavier paper setting in order for the toner to fuse properly onto the vinyl. So heavier paper setting and use a approved vinyl for laser printers.

    This will not have a very long lasting life. My recommendation if using laser printer stickers is to cover it with lamination prior to cutting in your Silhouette.
    I use a solvent based printer for my car decals and or I’ll use my Oki laser Printer and cover the print with thin lamination. I have huge 13 X 19 inch decals on my car that have lasted years before I started using Eco Solvent printers.

    Good video Martin , this video seems sharper than normal is it higher res or diff camera ? Good you renamed this channel you prob get more hits on it. Shame about the live streams really enjoyed them but as you say you prob bring them back at some point. I was thinking of getting portrait 2 cutter as don't need anything bigger than A4 . Cheers all the best to the family. 👍

    do you do stickers? I am trying to find SOMEONE to help with my stickers. I use an EcoTank for printing my stickers and ive tried using a Canon as well. ALL of them seem to fade or become "runny" if they are outside for longer than a week...I have even tried using clear coat spray AND even used clear vinyl (oracle), but it all did the same thing.
    I've noticed a good number of these "bumper stickers" or stickers you can buy at your local corner store/gas station seem to be made using some kind of "textured sticker paper" that feels like a smooth truck bed liner...but the backing on the paper says Oracle as well, but i cannot figure out what kidn of paper it is.
    Any suggestions anyone?

    Hey,
    Just a quick one. I believe the end result had the stick side on the back right? What if i want to have the sticky size on the print side itself so o can stick it from inside my home windows and car windows?

      Lazer would be best for vinyl. Don't listen to the shops, they say uoi can't print on these vinyls but as you see, You can.

    Hi Martin, can I ask, did you use any special setting on the laser printer.? like print with lower heat setting so the vinyl doesn't melt?
    Thanks in advance. great videos by the way!

    • @reviewthat
      @reviewthat  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You need to use Transparency settings so the vinyl doesn't melt in the printer.

    Just looked on MDP supplies and there are a few confusing choices?? do you have a link to the product please ( printable laser jet vinyl )

    • @reviewthat
      @reviewthat  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They won't tell you they have a printable Laser vinyl. I use their DeTape 650 Series Polymeric Gloss Vinyl. Make sure you change the printer settings to printing to Transparancey's or the printer will melt the vinyl.

    Just a small thing I wanna' point out. The images you printed seem darker than the originals and the blacks not as deep. Was this intended?

      I I could have darkened them in Photoshop but I wasn't too bothered as this was a test.

    Spot on pal is it only white vinyl u can used and can u use dye based ink to print them with ta

    • @reviewthat
      @reviewthat  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would suggest dye based ink from an inkjet printer would not really work in this case Andy. You would need special inkjet printable transfer papers and they are dear. That's why, I like this method on standard sticker vinyl.

    Hi Martin loving the video mate, just a quick one I've tried looking for that vinyl you use on MDP but can only find a4 and no rolls sheets any ideas, please?
    edit sorry ive just seen below lol

  • @borisnedelev4870

    Pretty cool!
    However I have few questions. Everywhere on the internet it says that you should not use vinyl with laser printers as the laser printers get up to very high temperatures, therefore the vinyl can melt inside. But you are doing it....so please elaborate! 😄

    • @reviewthat
      @reviewthat  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There's no magic bud. it just works with the vinyls I am using. I do believe that they don't want people to know it works.
