- Laser machining vinyl has always been a slightly controversial topic. There are some that are laser safe but you definitely want to do your research.

I subscribed just because you suggested that everyone should do research and think for themselves. I'm not sure why, but it seems like there are a LOT of people in the crafting/maker communities that just want the secret sauce handed to them and don't want to do the things necessary to try to master the craft of their choice. Thanks for saying something about it.
I appreciate it. I think it’s human nature to want the easy button. I highly encourage everyone to research and learn and not just rely on having things handed to them.
So nice to see someone encouraging everyone to do research. Thank you. ❤
If you want to be successful, you need to be willing to do the work. I’m a firm believer in you get out of it what you put in. That’s how you learn.
Super helpful! I was in the automatic NO category. Mostly because I’ve messed up a machine by not checking that MSDS. Thanks for the eye opening recommendations!
The MSDS is everything. That usually answers all the questions you’ll ever have.
What happened to the machine
@@thegiftdesigners I’m not sure what you’re asking exactly. These vinyls that I used are laser safe. The machine is fine.
@@thegiftdesigners if you’re asking what happened to the machine I broke, essentially what chlorine gas does is it rusts any exposed metals. So any part of the machine with exposed metal (it was a helix, so a lot of it) just got super rusted and eventually the ball bearings in the i-beam rusted over and the motor couldn’t move the print head anymore. This all happened after maybe 2-3 hours of cutting hat size patches. We had to replace a lot of parts and eventually got the machine working again but we had voided our 2 year warranty early because (for Epilog) cutting PVC voids the warranty.
10 out of 10 do not recommend!
very cool. how did you get the settings for kiss cut vs removing the vinyl? just trial and error?
Great tips! Thank u very much for this video.
You’re welcome!
Thank you so much for this information. I have an Epilog Fusion and I love this machine. Do you know what software to use to transfer PES (used for an embroidery machine) to an SVG file? I had my designs digitized to be able to embroider them but I want to use some of my PES designs and be able to cut them out with an SVG file on my laser.
I’m not sure in all honesty. I’m not familiar with the embroidery stuff.
Hi, great video, do you have the settings for the adhesive vinyl? I have a 60w fusion edge as well
I’ll have to look it up when I’m at that computer.
Great info! Thanks!
Thanks for watching!
great information, thank you! I have been wanting to adhere PVC free vinyl to acrylic and then cut on the laser. Seems like that would work as well? I work with clear acrylic so sublimating won't work and am trying to find an alternative outside of buying a UV printer.
That could be a path forward.
Any luck with cutting clear acrylic ect with diode laser?
This is really an eye opener - I really appreciate you taking the time to do the research, yet still advise us to do our own research. These are VERY thin vinyl brands - is there any safe vinyl brands - to your knowledge that are 1/6" or 1/8" thick? I am getting a laser in a couple of weeks and was planning on doing quite a few Vinyl projects using Amazon Vinyl for lasers. Thanking you in advance for your response. Diana
Siser is one of the few laser safe vinyl brands I know, and they primarily make HTV. I don’t know of any laser safe ones that would be that thick aside of maybe them.
thank you@@MakerExperiment
@@drogersusa you’re welcome.
Crazy helpful - I assume it applies to Co2 and Diode lasers?
Yes, it should apply to both.
would you mind sharing the settings you used for the holographiic siser vinyl etch you demo'd? - Thanks
I’ll have to look it up again when I get back to that computer.
Yeah, I’d like to know that as well. I’ve been experimenting and testing on vinyl for heat transfers and I’ve come to the conclusion that I’m running 130 W laser and I might not be able to get my power low enough to ablate a precise graphic. I add speed and offset focal distance and lose precision. Maybe I haven’t found the right combo yet.. 🤷🏻♂️
@@Engraving-ld8gn that’s a lot of wattage for this thin of material. I have a feeling your power setting will need to be very low.
How about the magnetic rubber for attachment to cars, refrigerators, etc?
Usually those have some kind of chloride in the magnetic or film on them. I would check the MSDS and consult the laser manufacturer. Without knowing the chemical make up, I’d play it safe until you verify.
Do you have a recommended thickness for the vinyl?
The vinyl thickness varies based on the product. I didn’t measure it but easyweed vinyl was pretty thin. Glitter gets a little thicker. You can check the siser website and see what they say.
Hey thanks for the video! I’m having trouble finding the correct safe vinyl for laser cut that I can use to heat press onto clothes. If anyone can link me, seeing the one in the description is not active anymore I’d really appreciate 🙏🏽
This is one of the companies that makes it. www.siserna.com/heat-transfer-vinyl/
What settings would do I need for the xtool d1 pro 20w?
I have no idea. You’re going to have to experiment with a speed and power grid to figure out what works best on your machine.
Thanks!
Any idea if you can laser cut party foil? 😅
I’m not sure what that is. I’d highly recommend looking at the SDS sheet or talk to your laser manufacturer.
@@MakerExperimentI contacted cricut and they said “While the detailed chemical composition of Party Foil is proprietary, we can tell you it is mainly composed of PET. Party Foil is not intended to be used in the vicinity of any fire, flame, or other combustible materials”
prob shouldn’t take a chance trying to cut it.
@@PuttyCream sounds like I’d avoid it.
The link for the laser safe vinyl is broken.
This link should work:

@@CirculaTech you’re welcome.
what about marine vinyl fabric?
You’ll have to check and see if it has harmful chemicals in the material.
is there laser safe reflective vinyl?
They may make some HTV like that. I haven’t really seen reflective laser safe sticker type vinyl.
Has anyone found a laser safe printable vinyl?
I haven’t yet. It may be worth reaching out to Siser to see if they have something.
1. Cool T-shirt.
2. I’m going to trust anyone and their TH-cam channel if they are a Doctor Who found.
3. Can we talk about the cool T-shirt?!
😂😂😂
I do love that t-shirt.
They aren't MSDSs anymore.
