    There’s no trade secret for a printer. It’s an item anyone can get and everyone knows they need. People just want to know what works and not go broke getting the wrong one. Many amazing artists share what they use from a-z. They’re the real ones and I respect them. Printer will improve quality ONLY. The actual work and art and originality can’t be copied via printer. Thanks for the information and help you shared with fellow aspiring small businesses owners.

    I have to be honest, I've never understood why shops don't want to speak about the printer they use or even those who won't say what paper they use. The way I see it, the only reason to consider something "secret sauce" is if someone else can take it and recreate what exactly you've done, like an actual secret sauce lol. But it is literally just a printer. Anyone can buy a printer. It doesn't automatically turn them into successful business people lol. The products themselves are what set you apart. Your designs and your brand. I wouldn't care at all who knew what printer I used. I just think it's so silly. Anyway, just my 2 cents on the topic. 🙂 P.S. I agree, Canon is my jam! They really do make great printers.

    • @StickerGuru
      @StickerGuru  ปีที่แล้ว +53

      It takes time & experience to do the research to find what works best for you, and it can also get very expensive when you're trying out different equipment. I can respect it when shops don't want to disclose their stuff. time is money!

    • @SalleyneDesign
      @SalleyneDesign ปีที่แล้ว +112

      @@StickerGuru thanks for the response, I think we will just agree to disagree. I do agree that it takes time to research a printer and it takes money IF you are someone who purchases multiple printers to test them out etc. However, if you're someone who has decided to research a printer and has found the perfect one and you now have a business going, that would have happened regardless of whether people ended up asking you what printer you used or not. So that time and effort was already taken and done on your part. Someone asking what printer you use later on down the line is not taking you any time, money, effort, or changing your business in any way etc etc. At this point it would take about 1.5 seconds to say the product name. So the argument of "time is money" is pretty irrelevant at this point. So ya, I just think it's messed up that people will hold it a secret because back when they researched it it took them time to do so and time is money. that just doesn't make sense to me. It's a very mean way of looking at things in my opinion. It's basically saying "back when I did it I took the time, so I'm not going to help you now you go do it yourself". And that's just kind of mean to me. I would tell anybody the printer that I use because the time I took to find the printer is absolutely irrelevant to the person asking what kind of printer I use. I just wish more people supported each other in the art industry because there's such a competitive mentality a lot of times, especially amongst women, that is a little sad. And I look at this topic as one of those competitive natured type of things. I mean, I watch designers on YT who have million dollar businesses and will tell u everything they use. So ya, I just think it's a messed up way of thinking when it's something as simple as a printer. Of course, none of this is directed towards you because you're open and you're super cool, it's just something that came to my mind so I decided to share my two cents LOL 💙

    • @digitaldoodlebug1461
      @digitaldoodlebug1461 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      I think it is similar to a secret sauce. I mean a sauce will only have so many ingredients and so much of each. It's likely very similar to every other sauce out there. But it takes months or years of trial and error to perfect it.
      Just researching a printer isn't enough. It takes money, trial and error. I've been sticker printing for 14 years going through 9 different printers. So you're giving all that away for free. I share info too but can see the other view of not wanting to hand out what has taken years of knowledge and thousands of $ to learn.

    • @SalleyneDesign
      @SalleyneDesign ปีที่แล้ว +33

      @@digitaldoodlebug1461 no prob. We can also agree to disagree. Cuz a "secret sauce" always has something added that was created by the person who made it. If I stole that recipe or was given that recipe, my sauce would then be exactly like theirs which could possibly ruin their business. A secret sauce isn't kept secret because of the years it took to make it, it's kept secret so no one else makes the same sauce lol. What's more equivalent to this printer thing is like a chef saying "I'm not telling u what knife I used to cut my meat" lol. And chefs don't keep that a secret ever. The secret is in their recipes, their final products, not the tools they used. It's just silly lol. A printer is a printer. You didn't add special knobs to the one u ended up using for your stickers lol, and if I bought your printer all that would mean is that I have a printer that prints things nice. It would also mean that I am one of maybe a million people with that printer doing whatever with it. My end product would still be nothing like yours and therefore wouldn't affect u. It's silly to keep a printer a "secret" when it doesn't affect your business, your money, your livelihood or even take up any of your time in any way shape or form. Sharing the printer you use is absolutely nothing like a secret sauce. My question is, what do people feel will happen if they told someone the printer they used? Is it fear of competition? Or someone doing better than them cuz they now have this printer? Or is the reasoning literally just "you're not allowed to know for free". Cuz to me, again just my opinion, that's just greed and being mean. Especially since so many sticker makers have learned everything they know for FREE on TH-cam from others lol. But now it's a huge issue to say "I use this printer" for free? Lol. If I asked u to tell me the printer u used, and also go over everything u do, step by step to make stickers from start to finish, how u design, your creative process, how u set up ur cutting machines etc etc, then I can see why people wouldn't want to give all that info out for free, cuz that's something that could be made into a class. That's giving away the secret sauce. But a printer? C'mon man lol. Also, there are many sticker makers online who already fully share everything they use and have been making stickers very successfully for many years. Katnipp as just 1 example. And not only did she openly share her process throughout all these years helping a mass amount of people get into the business, but she has spoken about her equipment for a long time and and why she uses it, it's features, etc etc etc. Kinda like most people who get new equipment for their business online, it's called an unboxing lol. Anyway, all this to say, I personally think it's ridiculous. But hey, we live in a world with many different people in it. Some are nice and feel great helping others just because, and others are not so nice and feel like everyone should just go figure it out or pay them lol. But again, we can just agree to disagree. You do you and what works best for u. And congrats on a 14 yr business. 🙂

      I remember working in a restaurant where the owners didn't want to have their "Spinach and Cheese Ravioli" recipe published on the local paper. They were terrified people were going to make it at home.
      Since I am a good cook myself and I was born in Italy, I already knew the recipe, but I remember telling them that even those few readers that could actually make the fresh dough, the ricotta and spinach filling and the rest of it would instead come down and buy it, because I also know how to make them, but that's not the point. I like cooking and eating my own meal, but I don't like cleaning the kitchen after it looks like the russian army has hit it with a flour bomb.
      Finally the agreed, the recipe was published and not one of our client ever told us they made their own at home. Even other chefs that frequented the restaurant came over to be served, pampered and having someone else do the dishes.
      That said, my wife and I were glass artists at some point and we had classes on how to make glass. Unfortunately, so many people lack creativity that all our students wanted to do was to replicate exactly what we did and were selling at various gift stores, Macy's etc. We kept telling them to come up with their own designs, but they just couldn't.
      I can see both sides of this issue.

      IMO the first paper she mentioned because it is like coloring book paper, I was very upset when I got mine because I thought it would have a sheen on it. I love your idea and maybe I will make coloring stickers with them. 😊THANK YOU

      Thank you Tea! We're so glad this was informative. Unfortunately, we don't share this information because they were custom-created for us by our manufacturer, and it was quite expensive and out of the budget for sticker owners just starting out. But we found our manufacturer on Alibaba, and that's where we suggest starting!

    I have a question: Do we still have to laminate the stickers if we use the weatherproof sticker paper? Thank you for the video! Loved it x

    • @itsasinine3337
      @itsasinine3337 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      the weatherproofing, as much as ive been searching the same topic, to my knowledge is only for the sticker paper itself, printing on top of it the ink will still be exposed to the elements and can flake/scratch off, so as far as i know, Laminate everything printed on smooth/glossy paper

    Hi thank you for the information! Im not going to be starting a sticker business but what I want to do involves making a big “sticker” so Im trying to figure out what is best for the application I am doing. Customers are going to be able to send me a photo of what they want or they can pick an image off of my site that will then be put on a vinyl adhesive “sticker” that I will then apply it to the product and mail it back to them. I would love to tell you exactly what I am doing but I am so affraid someone else will steal my idea. Anyway these vinyl stickers vary in sizes from 5”x5” up to around 19”x19”. Can you recommend a printer that can do those sizes with photo quality? Thank you so much. I love your videos and your uptick lol what a goof ball lol

    Be careful with third-party/off -brand ink! I’ve had issues with them clogging the printhead of my Canon Pro-100. I stick with Canon OEM ink. It may cost more, but replacing a printhead costs even more. Luckily, I can clean my printhead, but it’s not something I like to do on a regular basis.

    I got so excited when i saw that you refill your catridges manually hoping that you would reveal what refillable ink to search for but sadly its a trade secret :'( cause i have the exact same printer as yours and my ink just ran out recently so I'm in a dilemma now on whether to purchase 3rd party catridges cause i have no idea what kind of refillable inks to buy.

    I couldn't help but notice your background. Would you mind going through a tour of your storage system. Where did you get your storage systems for your stickers or what type of materials did you gather to make them? I'm currently using several filing cabinets, but I see that your system is much more condensed and utilizes the space more efficiently. My average sized stickers are no bigger then 8x6 inches. Do you have any recommendations? I appreciate you. Great content BTW!

    Canon P100 is a standard photo printer. So do you use a special inks for printing on the paper you showed or that's the standard inkjet inks? Or maybe the paper is the one which makes the sticker printing possible? Are the stickers you sell durable, I mean wear and water resistant? Thank you so much for this video!

    • @StickerGuru
