Well done for checking. Vindicates the suspicion I had with a so called autobox rebuild years back. The cowboys are out there so most chaps I know with classic and vintage cars do it themselves or with trusted repairers. It may cost more driving miles or using a trailer but you get top work and an itemised build plus a view of any replaced/old bits. Thank you for posting.
We need a warning against cowboy's like this one. what you found is bad. well done you, for checking. Look forward to seeing what else has not been done. All the best Richard. Cheers Bob
Another high quality gearbox rebuild from the people at HFG transmissions by any chance Rich ?..... Glad that you caught the bastard before you re fitted it.
It's a reason why i almost never bring my car to so called experts. I'll rather do the job myself, unless it requires some expensive special equipment.
I think that expressing opinion about the standard of the refurbishment work should be reserved until the interior of the gearbox has been inspected... I mean, for all you lot know, they may have used top quality hardwood sawdust in there! 😉
it did, customer standing right next to me! I feel bad for my customers and dealing with these shysters. Customer got a full refund but the job is still in my workshop.
Nightmare for you Richard, not great for customer either! And this is why I always refurbish my own stuff, it really is the only way to know it is all done, and done right. Wouldn’t the customer have been better paying you to rebuild it?
when I pulled the box I had my suspicions, when the customer bought it back saying that they didn't have to replace anything I knew something was amiss
Cowboy gearbox refurbishment! The owner should report the scam company to the Stag Owners Club. Well done you for spotting it.
Goes to show that a nicely presented car can have all sorts of technical gremlins going on underneath.

Scary stuff with that gearbox. Hope you will be able to help the customer through this! Cheers.
That's the plan! 3 more episodes in this one for your fun
Fair dinkum, what a can of worms.
He's lucky he brought it in when he did.......
What a lucky customer to have you to check!
all part of the service

Llevas años trabajando, ¡y no terminas nada!...
I finish loads of stuff, just not any of my own cars

I don't know who did the re-paint, and yes to catching it before I spent hours refitting the box

Would be nice to see the invoice for the gearbox refurb.
All the parts used should be listed including the pressure wash and can of silver paint.
customer supplied gaskets, refurb supplied silver paint and 6" brush. They even said to the customer that no other parts were required
@@churchhouseclassics so all the swarf on the drain plug was FOC.
Don't mess about buy two new exhaust manifolds
Stag v8 manifolds are only available UOS, better the devil you know in this field
Swarf still on the drain plug tells you all you need to know.

That is shocking

Would not want to put that box back in, its had a can of silver paint, thats all.
new seals and badly fitted gaskets too
Name and shame I'd say.
cannot do that as I wasn't there for the discussion. This could have been a misunderstanding and I do not know for sure.
