Have to admit Richard, when I see wiring scotchblocked, I just remove and replace with the correct diagram colours. Those cars are pretty easy as you know. Great video but sad as I let my MG of that age go after 40 years. Wish I hadn't. Thanks for posting.
scotchblock is the work of Satan himself. I have stripped down a few old looms and salvaged many yards of original lucas colour coded wires for use in exactly these areas. Grown rather fond of this little MG
Watching the fun you had with the electrics has given me the incentive to draw up a revised diagram for the ignition circuit on my cortina.fitted electronic ignition which is 12 v and the original Cortina ignition has a ballast coil which is 9v and a 12v supply to coil from the starter solenoid. If I ever sell the car the next owner may be confused by the redundant wires in the engine compartment.
Stag also has the damned ballast wire, I bypass it and take a clean feed from any of the white wires near the ignition switch or fuse board to provide a nice clean supply to the 12v ignition coil
Had a front wheel drive triumph 1500 and the wire popped off the ballast resistor on the coil Car would start on the key but as soon as you released it the engine cut out.
No flame but lots of spark. I think the commutator had corroded which then sparked a lot. You notice that the starter sounded smoother after 10seconds of running. I think that was all part of the cleaning itself out. I monitored the situation very carefully and am confident that there is no further sparks.
Good progress and nothing's actually melted or caught fire yet! Keep up the good work. 👍
I had my trigger finger on the kill switch at the slightest whiff of Lucas Smoke. And I have a very sensitive sense of smell

More great content Richard - loved the comment 'it's struggling a bit, I can tell that as there is smoke coming off it ' - priceless 🤣
Ohms Law and a bit of creating a 1 bar heater from a starter motor
Awesome! Cheers
