Awesome video!! We had the Fog Harbour Chowder and we loved it! We went looking for the little Bouding Museum you tipped us about, but went to the Boudin shop on the Pier 39 😂. Oops. But we loved the chowder we had. It was our first time 🤩
The last time I was in SF, I visited a restaurant on Fisherman's warf, called "Scomas". It's been awhile since I'd been there, they served some of the best Clam Chowder, bread bowl and all.
Love how informative you are, and how much effort you took to make this video. I live in the bay too but if a tourist ask me about sf I’ll send this video to them. Very well done love it💕
Hi Zeena. I love your video's about SF eating scene. I am from the Netherlands and I am flying this friday for the first time to SF. I have seen many video's just for inspiration. Thank you and keep up the good work!
“Perfect bowl of creamy goodness.” Well said, Zeene. Looking forward to trying the off menu flight of chowders on my next visit to Blue Mermaid. That bowl from Hog Island Oyster is a meal in itself. Peace and Yum.
I enjoy your videos. Being fairly new to the Bay Area, I appreciate you and your time in making these videos. Yes we get it the "locals" know the best spots. But everyone is not a local and we just want to enjoy SF and the many wonderful food options. Keep up the good work. ✌🏾
Great video! We are visiting SF from the UK in a few days’ time and all of your videos on SF have been very helpful in planning our holiday. Which of the eating establishments featured in this video would you say is the most budget friendly? Thanks
Hi Maria! Getting excited for your family's visit out here! Sam's is going to be the least expensive at $6/cup but it may not be practical for you to chase down a food truck. :) So as an alternative I would say Boudin, which is especially kid-friendly. The clam chowder bowl is about $8+tax (your family can share just to get a taste) and then your kids can go upstairs to the museum to look around, watch the bakers in the open kitchen, and eat more of the free sourdough slices served up there! Also, Blue Mermaid's trio combo is $18+tax but if you consider there are 3 excellent chowders, it works out to about $6/cup so IMO the best "value."
Sorry quick correction -- I double-checked Boudin's pricing against their website and it seemed off so I triple-checked...the chowder bowl is $10+tax (!!) but you can get just the chowder no bowl for $9+tax. Hope that helps...
I agree with you about Boudin's chowder. I tried it for the very first time a couple days ago and was severely underwhelmed. The bread bowl itself was great but I don't think I'll ever eat the chowder again. The irony was that it tasted like it was from a can and in the store they had a large display of it...in cans. On a side note, have you ever considered getting a wireless mic? I had some difficulty hearing you in the noisier environments.
Also i.m watching your video...i unforgettable your cousin introduce your face...clam soup and kind of most sea food looks like so good...which like this landscape above red color house green green grass as excellent i like it...today also gorgeous your passion...
Here’s the thing: Not only did I work for Boudin, but I was born and raised in Newport, Rhode Island. I know a thing or two about clam chowder and the dreck they serve at Boudin is CANNED and made off site. It’s revolting. Wonderful clam chowder should not be thick and gloopy. The finest clam chowder I have ever experienced is from The Black Pearl in Newport, RI. It’s perfection.
Thanks for the feedback! I'm not a big fan of Boudin clam chowder either. But it does seem to be very popular over here. I bet the actual clam chowder FROM New England is 10x better. Will give the Black Pearl a try next time I'm in Newport.
Wow Zeene i am a foodie and i live in S.F. !!! I am born and raise in S.F. Very interesting places you pick but of course as a native i know the real places =)
Hey there! Instead of lobster rolls, try crab rolls as they are more representative of San Francisco (we grow Dungeness crabs here!). When it’s in season (end of fall through spring) get a crab roll from Woodhouse Fish Co. Crab meat with cheese on a butter-toasted sourdough slice - yum! I feature this in my best seafood video if you want to preview first.
Now come on. A little woman like you did NOT eat all those bowls of clam chowder!! 😁😄 Confess: you ate ALL of it at Hog Island, and only sampled the others. Your videos are fun and informative, and you handle the rude comments (totally uncalled for) with grace. See you in SF!!
Haha! U got me there! I DO bag a ton of the food and using a bit of video magic, usually spread the massive feasts over 2-3 days. But when I love the food you bet I eat every last drop 😋 And thanks for all the support! Hope to see you around - come over and say hi if you see me!
I'd be curious to know your opinion on how the clam chowder at Swan Oyster Depot stacks up with the rest of the ones on the list. That said, the crab and corn chowder at the Mermaid was far and away the greatest thing I ate while I was in San Francisco. Great review!
It’s good but didn’t make my list. :) Swan Oyster (which I reviewed in another video) is fantastic for any dish that leans heavily on eating it naked and fresh.
@@ZeeneInRealLife I agree. Although I am a Swan Oyster Depot loyalist, I'd say their chowder fits perfectly within the context of the other things they serve at their establishment. Also, since Mermaid was mentioned, I'd be remiss if I didn't tell you that you have to try their calimari as well! There was no rubbery chew like you get with calimari that isn't fresh or well prepared; just beautiful melt in your mouth deliciousness!
Yummy clam pumpkin soup...and clam shrimp soup and bread it very good combination... also one of the famous sea food soup oyster...even potatoes onions good dish looks like tender and good texture...you are so gorgeous...
I love your energy and knowledge !!! However I think the best clam chowder is at Sotto Mare on Green St in North Beach .One Christmas we did a staycation at that Hotel, really nice! I can't watch anymore .Your making me way too hungry...Mrs A
I’m not a fan of the Boudin chowder at that location at all. I think that their chowder is bland. I liked the Fog Harbor chowder but I thought that it was too salty both times I tried it. I love the chowder at Blue Mermaid. The last two times that I went there though, I was ignored and couldn’t get seated or get an order to go, despite asking multiple times to be helped. The restaurant wasn’t busy, but apparently I was wasn’t worth their time. Hog Island is good. I haven’t tried Sam’s. My favorite chowder is at Ideal Bar and Grill in Santa Cruz. It is super creamy and flavorful.
How about a video outlining the search for the best Pizza in SF? Or, if you want more of a challenge with something unique to SF, find the best Chioppino. :)
you lost me at Sams chowder.. ive been there a few times in HMB, and its terrible.. maybe the food truck is better, but the restaurant is terrible. when staying at the beach house next door, we either go to mezza luna or we make our own dinner in the suite..
Hi Luigi, totally understand as my best of lists are generally based on compiled ratings of highly rated review sites (not my personal preference). I personally like the clam chowder at HMB Brewery when I do have it. One thing I will say is clam chowder tends to not be as much of a locals’ thing and for sure visitors have a different set of criteria. Even among tourists there’s a huge range of tastes; I’m not a huge Boudin fan but surprisingly a ton of folks prefer the creamier, subtler flavor. To each his own I guess!
Hi Matthew, actually I don't get any commissions from the restaurants (although I wish I did as I would actually be breaking even on this video 😂 ). Just a lot of hard work researching these places from reputable sources. Sorry to hear you don't enjoy clam chowder.
The more food recommendation videos I watch, the more disgusted I become at all these people. I think the only way for people like me to get food reviews is through written text or photos. I haven't seen a single face I haven't wanted to punch out of dozens and dozens of videos.
Awesome video!! We had the Fog Harbour Chowder and we loved it! We went looking for the little Bouding Museum you tipped us about, but went to the Boudin shop on the Pier 39 😂. Oops. But we loved the chowder we had. It was our first time 🤩

The chowder from Hog Island looks amazing. I definitely have to try that one. Did they have sourdough you could purchase?

You're really good in describing flavor and food texture! My all time favorite chowder is from Half Moon Bay Brewery.
Mine too! But since this is an SF episode I had to cut it out :(
Katya Espina please, address of it? Thank you

Buena Vista Cafe (famous for Irish coffee) also makes a really good clam chowder.
Thanks for the recommendation!
What’s this wonderful lipstick that doesn’t melt after chowder?
💄 I bought this specifically for my food videos! It's Maybelline's Infallible line. Basically doesn't come off once it dries.

Yeah I’m always surprised how popular Boudin is but I think everyone has different tastes. This one is definitely thicker and less pungent. :)

Ooh I wanna fry the chowder combo. Agreed the Fog Harbor chowder with the crab meat is yeeumerz
what great a presentation of San Francisco . my son Isaac lives in the city. making chowder this weekend.
Yum! Can he mail me a bowl? 😂 Actually, it's perfect weather for chowder.
i loved the fun fact.. chevys had really good food..

Spud Point Crab Co. in Bodega Bay is my favorite white chowder
