Every era has its hero car. But the Falcon GTHO was simply faster than any other 4 door sedan in the world at the time and certainly considerably faster than any sedan from America. The current hero Ford vehicle is the V8 Mustang but it simply doesn't command any advantage over global competitors.
That's not true it may have been that year but the Masserati Quattroporte built up until 69-70 was faster. Also plenty of full size us cars too one example 67 full size Ford's with the 428 available as 4door sedan & wagon good for over 150mph.
@@retrotom5346 The highest recorded speed of a 1971 XY GTHO PHASE 3 production car, was coming down conrod straight Bathurst doing 154MPH!! Until it had to break coming up to a corner!
Early falcons the front suspension was not capable of Australian roads so we modified them to be more capable. Twin subframe torque boxes on both sides and a dam good sump guard.
If they had released the phase 4 GTHO that was good for 150 mph with the rev limiter set at 6200rpm but the Bathurst race cars had no limiter and could pull 7000 rpm which is over 160 mph. That's Lamborghini and Porsche territory.
4 Door, fastest 4 door production car in the world. This way we can ignore all the American, big block powered coupes. Such as Pontiac 455 GTO. Don't matter, that they used an engine imported from America. Modified locally with mostly imported American parts,
Ok well there are 427 galaxies & Fairlanes ,428 , boss 429 & boss 302 Mustangs, F code supercharged T birds that's just a couple of examples of real Ford power plus prob the toughest Falcon ever made the 70 1/2 with a 429 scj. But yes a 4 door with some mustang parts & a small block is the greatest.lol.

The gtho was from America. It was assembled in Australia but it is American
Australia did. We had the first fastest four door sedan in the world with the XY Ford GTHO.

XR8 out of South Africa was a classic too.
The 302 Perana Capri from South Africa kicks ass
Dropping a 302 into a v6 capri was reasonably popular thing to do in Australia
