    Had a vw fox that I had to drive pulling and replacing the fuel pump fuse to get to the shop. They spent a few hours trying to diagnose why it was flooding. Turns out even though it's a mechanical fuel injection system it does take a single sensor input. The coolant temp sensor failed and was double the resistance flooding the engine. Worth a check.

    Hi Doc here from 'TheHelidoctor' I'm hearing what sounds like very noisy belt tensioner bearings or worse still cam belt pinion drive bearings. Now it may just be the sound on the video but the engine does sound very 'dry metal' and noisy. Before you run the engine again I'd pull the belt covers and see if the belts are going slack on the long side. Also is there any play in the tensioners and or belt drives off the crank.. Now I know the belts are under tension BUT if you rotate crank back a few degrees you can sometimes feel any issues that way. You say you are doing a belt change, well this is great because once the belts are off you MUST see if there is any play at all in those drive pinions....they are know to fail and then then engine goes bang I'm afraid. Obviously replace the tensioners and check the water pump also. Really like your channel, good luck kind regards, Doc

    Bosch k jetronic. I have a very similar set up on my DMC. Had to go through it in the same way you are. A word of caution to anyone removing the fuel distributor. Be careful if that piston isn’t seized it can fall out and any damage to it is bad news. I’ll be interested if you set K-Jet up with a dwell and CO meter on the Ferrari as you do on the D.

    Check the control pressure to the warm up regulator!!! This is step one on K Jet cars.
    The top connection in the center should be going to your warm up regulator. That's the pressure on the head, and it puts resistance on the plunger. Cold start injector runs off of system pressure on the side, next to the system pressure regulator. System pressure and control pressure are different. You should have pulled the injectors first

I know you can't do it, but saved me a lot of headache and no more crazy cuts/over revs when hitting bumps which is quite common in a rally stage. LOL.

    My 2p worth . . . Thoughts: a filter before the pump would be nice, how about fuel pressure- is there a fuel pressure regulator? around 3 bar is normal, on some bikes that I have worked on the fuel relay and the ignition relay look the same but they are not- new relays ! ?. . and of course all new fuel and vacume pipes with E10 spec would be a good starting point, I use a length of rubber fuel pipe to help get plugs in/out of deep tunnels, I can't really imagine that Bosch hardware would be faulty (( looks like I have too much confidence in Bosch ; )), also relatively cheap to replace all the sensors, such as air temp, water temp, throttle position, map sensor etc, (something is obviously affecting all cylinders, whatever), good luck- I am mentally 'with you' on this. oh yeah and the manscape ad is superb, really your sister ? ; ))

    K-Jet is an absolute pain once the system blocks up. Cars with this system must be driven at least semi regularly. So this car gave back what was deserved. You may well be in for a set of injectors. They are bound to be blocked to various degrees. A new set always improved things on my 911's.

  • @jamcdona
    @jamcdona 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    K-Jet is a pain for sure. I've been through all of this on both a 78 and 83 E21 BMW years ago, learned a lot. There are shims in the fuel dist that are different thicknesses and affect the-control pressure? Long time ago...You will still need to adjust the mixture, I can't recall seeing you do that. I'm assuming that the AFM has that adjusment in Ferrari's implementation of K-Jet? Also, a great book is 'How to tune and modify Bosch Fuel Injection'. Covers all forms of K-jet, L-Jet.

    K jet fuel injection as a real problem for cars left standing, i had the same issues with my MK1 golf Gti i just restored, chasing after things that were gummed up with varnished fuel, replacement warm up reg and metering head have mostly cured the issues, although i am now chasing vacuum leaks and a sticky warm up valve! 🤣 it’s never ending with the classics

    3:37 With that spark plug job I'm surprised no one has made a removable rear window for these like they did on the old corvette's to help you get abit more access there, as some of the C3 generation actually came with that as an option where you could remove the rear window for more air, which incidentally they actually did on the camera car for the testarossa on vice, it was removed and covered in plastic, not sure why though if it was just for style or had a practical reason for it.
    or maybe even put on like a sliding engine bay cover latch that can move forward an inch or two when its not locked in horizontally.
    as theirs gotta be a smart engineering solution here that doesnt involve doing something drastic like cutting an access plate into the bulkhead, like it looks like it needs
    like maybe taking the struts off or replacing them with longer ones so you have more access there
