Grew up in Chicago and was lucky enough to see many Blues legends. Playing the Blues is far more about feeling the song rather than just knowing the chords. Few people play blues as Slowly as it was meant. You can’t play the blues too Slow… thanks Marty, always tasty and served perfectly.🎼
As someone with pretty severe wrist tendinitis, I have a hard time doing the traditional “blues” riff with the 5 note going to the 6 (and especially the b7). I really like how you showed all the variations of the E and A chords. Thanks!
Actully just blew my mind Marty I’ve been wanting to play blues and I’ve been overwhelmed and overthinking but this def helped and expanded my blues playing thx man
Hey Marty apparently no one thought of this covers a lot of basic good stuff thanks I am going to promptly steal with Harp wonderful 👍 😊😎 you're star ⭐.. interesting I knew some you cover it well...
This is an absolutely phenomenal walk-through. The way you build from the absolute basics and just add little things up until the end is such an amazing way to learn guitar IMO. Very helpful, thank you!
Thank you for the videos all these years Marty. Can't believe how time flies :) I don't know if you take request but would be very appreciative if you uploaded a video on how to play the love and hate solo by Michael Kiwanuka. It might be my favorite song - on par with comfortably numb.
Hey is there anyway you could make a playlist for stuff like this? Blues runs, licks, etc. There stuff from years and years ago and I’m struggling to track it all down 😅
I am new to guitar and I'm in a band but I have a hollow body hybrid and everytime the bass player even played one string it makes a high pitched noise if we could make a trade for a elecric that would be great
Just throw some rags in there when you're playing live. The bass tones resonate in the cavity and it's making your pickups feedback. Doing something to dampen it will help, but that also just the nature of the beast with hollow bodies and semi-hollows. If you have a fairly common model like a es335 or some of the Gretsch shapes, you can find soundhole plugs that essentially do the same thing, but then you don't have to go trying to fish rags back out of your guitar. Even with all that, there are just limitations to what you can do with a hollow. Try using less distortion, or rolling back some pre-gain and using volume to make up the difference so your pick-ups are a little less sensitive to feedback. You can also try rolling off your volume pot on your guitar. Moving the bass amp might help a little too, but bass tends to fill a room no matter where the source is. Another suggestion is getting an EQ with a lot of bands or a parametric EQ in your signal chain and try notching out the problematic frequencies
Got this Danelectro 66 that I really like, but I just gave up on trying to play shows on it because it can't handle concert volume without being a squealing mess. Still get some use out of it in recording though.
Marty could you do this same type of lesson with blues progressing to some lead lines along the way aka STV style and other great blues players🎸🎶thanks so much
This is very timely. I was just revisiting some of your past videos and video courses on blues guitar last and how you come up with a new lesson today. Thanks Marty 😃👍🏽
Yes there are many blues type of bands but Marty reminded me of Mr.Lucky the fabulous John Lee Hooker Album and you can hear a whole bunch there. Nice touch Marty with the band on the Fedora matching the shirt dog 😎
Marty I’ve been struggling with muting ! I’ve seen the fingertip Have to touch the string above and sometimes not have to . Any advice on when and when not to ? Thanks love the channel !
Thank you Marty. Perfect lesson as usual. I bought the Katana amp per your recommendation. Could you possibly let us know your settings for this video ? Or is it a patch ?
There is no easy way. In order to master the blues one must live the ups and downs of life experience. This is the only way one grows mature with blues
