I think my favorite part about this is that there are LAYERS to this. Like… Layer One: He is the only adult here in terms of both Human Years and “milestones” in his life, which is funny in and of itself. But if you’re like me, and you WAY overthink things for no reason, it gets *even funnier* on Layer Two: finding out that many irl species of sea sponge can actually live for *several human lifetimes*? Basically… Spongebob is not only a legal adult compared to these Human Children, but he may very well be an *Unfathomably Ancient and Inscrutable Being* by the standards of most human societies? 😮 If you want to get even *more* unnecessarily in-depth and pedantic about this, there’s even a potential Layer Three: Combine this absurd longevity with his near-indestructibility due to his regenerative abilities,his bizarre and uncanny fusion of Vertebrate and Poriferan traits, and the Cartoon Thermodynamics inherent to his world basically imbuing him with a Who-Framed-Roger-Rabbit-esque capacity to *warp the fabric of reality around him to perform feats that should be categorically impossible*, and you have something only a few clicks of the dial away from some kind of Eldritch Abomination?? when i was a kid, my gamecube crashed while my dad, brother and I were playing nicktoons unite - during a boss fight. not knowing what to do, and being upset about it, i kneeled in front of the gamecube and vocally prayed to God that it would work. it never did again. i never played the game again. can't wait to watch this video.

Wyatt was the dark horse of crossovers, those deadpan one-liners he delivered were absolutely devastating and had me in medical distress from wheeze-laughing.
The energy difference between him and the other guests was stark. The difference between folks who's jobs are to perform for an audience and a normal dude who doesn't seem to be adjusting himself for that in the same way at all.
My favourite part of Danny Phantom lore is how Butch Hartman got way more religious after the show ended, so he basically had to retcon the fact there were any actual ghosts or depictions of the afterlife in the series. I like it, because it kinda implies that the intended implication used to be that Danny Phantom is set in a universe where only Hell is real, and God might as well not exist.

@@theletterbree the thing is, DP was mostly a good show cuz of everyone but Butch Hartman. The guy who was responsible for the writing for s1-2 was fired (Harmel), so you can see the drop off between s2 and s3. Even the character designs weren’t Butch’s, Steven Silver did those (he did Kim Possible as well). Basically it’s better to just ignore Butch cuz he’s like the creator of Xiolin Showdown and (to a lesser extent, Tim Burton on Nightmare Before Christmas). He’s not responsible for the good stuff and it can be seen when they got full creative control, and like Tim Burton’s movie the names on the tin get all the credit even tho they deserve way less credit.

I'm leaving a new comment as I hit the last 10 minutes of the video. I'm a 2D animator for television, and I've been listening to this video while doing work for a few days now. I really loved it, and your closing comments of the "who would be in a new Nicktoons Unite" section made me reflect. I do edutainment-y stuff for Canadian television, you can check out Riley Rocket if you want, I'm Isabella Deschamps in the credits. And that show is.... fine! It was fun, inclusive and cool. Aimed at a bit of a younger audience. But... nothing has any staying power anymore. I have no clue if Riley will ever see a season 2. And since you mentioned this one, one of my buddies from college actually worked on Rock Paper Scissors! He hasn't had any work in a few months now. Almost everyone I know in my field don't have jobs right now, some haven't for months or years now. I'm really sad about it. The adult animation field has been... okay, lately, despite some massive upsets (a lot of my friends lost jobs when Inside Job got cancelled. I'm still heartbroken, loved that show). It's great that adult animation has been doing fine lately. But I feel like no one wants to tell good stories for kids anymore. What even is there nowadays to capture their minds and imaginations? I genuinely don't know !! I feel like nothing *I'm* doing is gonna be hitting that mark. I'm working on a different show that has the same vibes and I'm just like... bleh. Nothing here is memorable or zany or interesting. I'm not really allowed to let characters express emotions that are "too negative". interesting to read the perspective from someone who's actually in the industry! i was talking about this with my sister awhile back, and it also makes me feel really sad that things have changed so much and that the golden era of cartoons is just a memory. hell, i didn't grow up with nicktoons unite but the amount of nostalgia i felt while watching this video is insane. we need that kind of charm and personality back. kids deserve better.

I suck at writing comments but I 100℅ agree! Sometimes I watch the videos in chunks. I also love going through old videos and finding something that now peaks my interest because I have never or by now HAVE heard of it and want to leard about it and Quinton is like a little internet archive regarding kid's cartoons and the likes. It makes me really happy to have this content and listen for hours while even playing older games from Gameboy, N64 etc. It's fun and I appreciate the work so much. The long videos are outstanding and I love that people take the time to explain so much and delve into the history and development of *somethint* as much as this person does. I love that. I wouldn't have it any other way. It's unique and admirable.

I mean to be fair the other characters are comparatively more capable than Timmy except for maybe Tak (If it was game Tak then I would include him too but I remember these games only use TV show Tak which was not as good).
being that young right now only means people watch more of the awful versions of the shows people like me being 30 watched when the first few seasons of Courage The Cowardly Dog was just pencil scratches and early versions of said show. I remember FoP when Francis was a threat, and the parents were almost like the ones in Cow and Chicken only the top half were seen. remember the secretary from Powerpuff Girls, we finally know what she looks like now. there's something about danny being a teenage boy and being the most empathetic guy in the main cast next to spongebob. like jimmy is silently annoyed at every minor inconvenience and timmy doesn't give a fuck about anyone's suffering but his own.
For some behind the scenes context: Unite was made in about 12 months, Volcano Island was made in 10 months, and Toybots was made in 9 months. Incinerator was hired to make Globs of Doom in September 2007 before Toybots even released later in October so I guess NIck and THQ were just THAT confident it was gonna sell well regardless of quality... then Globs aparently finished development in August 2008 meaning it was made in 11 months, so any way you look at it Toybots really was the most rushed game of the entire series.
That may be true but i still feel that it still has more charm and fun than Quinton is giving it credit for. By the way i managed to get all 500 fairies at least three times, at least twice when i was a kids, at least once when i returned to the game as a late teen.
I never understood Swifties until Quinton brought up The X's, and now I fully grasp how the urge to form parasocial relationships can be so absurdly strong.

This might just be because Invader Zim was one of my absolute favorite shows as a kid (and still is now tbh), but I feel like Dib would fit in so easily with the OG Nicktoons Unite team. Like, that kid's constantly saving the world from wacky alien schemes and is DESPERATE for truly anyone to take him seriously. Plus he's got a scientist dad so he's got access to Cool Equipment like the other guys. I also think he'd be funny to have around because he keeps getting way too excited about the end of the world. Not in a "yippee this is so cool" way, but he's constantly losing his mind about how everyone's finally going to see how he's been Right All Along and takes a weird sort of glee in people being in danger that get specifically is going to save them from.

Really, I think what Plankton provides to the evil team in these games is his ability to do incredible things with a budget. Like, sure his main motivation is to steal a sandwich, but he also goes to insane lengths to get it and his actual thing funding these insane exploits is his massively unsuccessful fast food business. He builds advanced technology out of basically nothing for what it costs to make a ham sandwich. As for Crocker, what he has to contribute is that he knows how magic works, how to combat it, and how to use it. Without him, Timmy could reasonably solo all of them.
Plankton having infinite money but no borger and trying to take a borger from a guy more obsessed with money than an nft bro who’ll cut any corner to sell borger really does is society
Plankton as a foil to SpongeBob the same way Calamitus and Vlad do to Jimmy and Danny is really funny to try to analyze. You could argue Plankton foils SpongeBob's genuine love of the Krabby Patty (both making it and eating it) by being obsessed with it. SpongeBob lives a happy life by just enjoying the simple things his life offers him, even his job, which he is passionate about even if it would never bring him success, while Plankton has the power to do basically anything he wants, but he can't ever be satisfied, because he will always fail at obtaining what SpongeBob has. Anyway, literally all of this is just baby's first literary analysis, I'm sure others can find a better interpretation.

I think people who complain about quinton having absurdly long videos where he just recaps episode plots have never watched anything he's actually made in good faith. Because the actual plot recaps are minimal and he usually talks about the production behind the scenes, whatever toys or merchandise is out when it was popular, tie-in games, online side content. Hell, he literally recreated a lost pilot to give more context for Sam and Cat's existence as a show. One doesn't have to like his analysis, but it is there. And that alongside all of the obvious effort that goes into just editing a multi hour project, I feel it shows how much passion he has for what he makes. Ill be happy to see whatever comes next, no matter how long or comparatively short they may be

i genuinely step away from his videos with less knowledge about the episodes than i have about whatever half related tangent he thought was more important/interesting and it's earnestly one of the things i love most about his retrospectives.
Something I enjoyed about his iCarly/Sam & Cat series is the way some of these seemingly random moments came back towards the end when discussing on-set experiences. (For example, the episode of Sam & Cat where Ariana Grande's character is stuck in a box.)
Hi unfortunately i am extremely autistic about danny phantom and vlad actually happens to be my favorite character, so just a little correction: the whole bit about his castle now being in amityville is correct, cuz vlad lives in madison, wisconsin and that is where his castle is located, so it is not actually an error, however danny calling him "that guy" is wild when he had an entire mean nickname for the guy throughout the show (fruit loop)

Waiting for Quinton to acknowledge the dark secret in attack of the toybots during the box ranking is the first time as an adult that I've felt anything like the feeling of poking at my tv and yelling so Steve knows there is a clue behind him. The payoff. Immaculate.

The thing that upsets me the most about these games is the fact that in the show, Timmy is a self-aware kid with lots of facial expressions. In this, he's just going :D every, fucking, time.

It is fascinating how the Volcano game was more a SpongeBob/Danny Phantom crossover than the other franchises. They got the most characters, start and end the game with SpongeBob and Danny, and you only get Timmy late in the game.
If I had to guess, Danny never really got a big game. (Since his games were all mainly on the GBA during the height of the ds minus the last which was on both) and SpongeBob is quite obviously the most famous nicktoon
At the very least it’s a fun way of acknowledging Invader Zim’s cast are all far more morally grey than the other Nicktoons, and don’t really have clear-cut good guys and bad guys. So why not have Dib’s ego be what puts him on the evil side to Zim, since it’s always been an established Achilles Heel of his.

Quinton's "Terminator Effect" is what I usually call the "Star Fox Effect". There was Star Fox, Star Fox 64 (which was a remake of the original), Star Fox 2 (cancelled), Star Fox Adventures (which was a completely different game that was essentially rebranded as Star Fox), Star Fox Assault, Star Fox Command (non-canon), Star Fox 64 3D (a remake), and Star Fox Zero (a reimagining of 64). So we had 8 games over 30 years... and 3 of them are actual continuity. in fact, 4 of them are the SAME GAME.

Star Fox is honestly the rare Nintendo game with some continuity. Pikmin 4 just retconned the entire series. None of the Paper Mario games have continuity with each other. Most of the Fire Emblem games are unrelated. Zelda games keep inventing timelines to remotely keep them in continuity.

This is unless we use the free-look tool included with the Dolphin emulator so that we can unlock the camera and get a closer look at Mr Snuggles' box. The energy difference between him and the other guests was stark. The difference between folks who's jobs are to perform for an audience and a normal dude who doesn't seem to be adjusting himself for that in the same way at all.
My favourite part of Danny Phantom lore is how Butch Hartman got way more religious after the show ended, so he basically had to retcon the fact there were any actual ghosts or depictions of the afterlife in the series.
I like it, because it kinda implies that the intended implication used to be that Danny Phantom is set in a universe where only Hell is real, and God might as well not exist.
I can totally believe that Danny Phantom takes place in the Devil May Cry universe.
I thought it was more like purgatory or Greek underworld rather then hell tbh.

The guy who was responsible for the writing for s1-2 was fired (Harmel), so you can see the drop off between s2 and s3. Even the character designs weren’t Butch’s, Steven Silver did those (he did Kim Possible as well).
Basically it’s better to just ignore Butch cuz he’s like the creator of Xiolin Showdown and (to a lesser extent, Tim Burton on Nightmare Before Christmas). He’s not responsible for the good stuff and it can be seen when they got full creative control, and like Tim Burton’s movie the names on the tin get all the credit even tho they deserve way less credit.

I'm leaving a new comment as I hit the last 10 minutes of the video. I'm a 2D animator for television, and I've been listening to this video while doing work for a few days now. I really loved it, and your closing comments of the "who would be in a new Nicktoons Unite" section made me reflect.
I do edutainment-y stuff for Canadian television, you can check out Riley Rocket if you want, I'm Isabella Deschamps in the credits. And that show is.... fine! It was fun, inclusive and cool. Aimed at a bit of a younger audience. But... nothing has any staying power anymore. I have no clue if Riley will ever see a season 2. And since you mentioned this one, one of my buddies from college actually worked on Rock Paper Scissors! He hasn't had any work in a few months now. Almost everyone I know in my field don't have jobs right now, some haven't for months or years now.
I'm really sad about it. The adult animation field has been... okay, lately, despite some massive upsets (a lot of my friends lost jobs when Inside Job got cancelled. I'm still heartbroken, loved that show). It's great that adult animation has been doing fine lately. But I feel like no one wants to tell good stories for kids anymore. What even is there nowadays to capture their minds and imaginations? I genuinely don't know !! I feel like nothing *I'm* doing is gonna be hitting that mark. I'm working on a different show that has the same vibes and I'm just like... bleh. Nothing here is memorable or zany or interesting. I'm not really allowed to let characters express emotions that are "too negative". Maybe in 15 or 20 years, there will be a Riley Rocket video essay with 100 comments about people remembering that show but ultimately forgetting it. I just don't know.

I love my job, I've only been doing it for 2 years, but I really desperately hope that in my lifetime I will get to work on shows that will inspire the "next" Nicktoons Unite. I hope that someone who wants to write compelling stories for kids steps up again. That the executives loosen their grips on how everything must be. I hope someday I get to make something that will stick with someone forever, like how my partner and friends quote Spongebob everyday. It would be really fucking cool.

Sometimes I watch the videos in chunks. I also love going through old videos and finding something that now peaks my interest because I have never or by now HAVE heard of it and want to leard about it and Quinton is like a little internet archive regarding kid's cartoons and the likes. It makes me really happy to have this content and listen for hours while even playing older games from Gameboy, N64 etc.
It's fun and I appreciate the work so much.

For some behind the scenes context: Unite was made in about 12 months, Volcano Island was made in 10 months, and Toybots was made in 9 months. Incinerator was hired to make Globs of Doom in September 2007 before Toybots even released later in October so I guess NIck and THQ were just THAT confident it was gonna sell well regardless of quality... then Globs aparently finished development in August 2008 meaning it was made in 11 months, so any way you look at it Toybots really was the most rushed game of the entire series.

This might just be because Invader Zim was one of my absolute favorite shows as a kid (and still is now tbh), but I feel like Dib would fit in so easily with the OG Nicktoons Unite team. Like, that kid's constantly saving the world from wacky alien schemes and is DESPERATE for truly anyone to take him seriously. Plus he's got a scientist dad so he's got access to Cool Equipment like the other guys. I also think he'd be funny to have around because he keeps getting way too excited about the end of the world. Not in a "yippee this is so cool" way, but he's constantly losing his mind about how everyone's finally going to see how he's been Right All Along and takes a weird sort of glee in people being in danger that get specifically is going to save them from.

Really, I think what Plankton provides to the evil team in these games is his ability to do incredible things with a budget. Like, sure his main motivation is to steal a sandwich, but he also goes to insane lengths to get it and his actual thing funding these insane exploits is his massively unsuccessful fast food business. He builds advanced technology out of basically nothing for what it costs to make a ham sandwich. As for Crocker, what he has to contribute is that he knows how magic works, how to combat it, and how to use it. Without him, Timmy could reasonably solo all of them.
Plankton having infinite money but no borger and trying to take a borger from a guy more obsessed with money than an nft bro who’ll cut any corner to sell borger really does is society
Plankton as a foil to SpongeBob the same way Calamitus and Vlad do to Jimmy and Danny is really funny to try to analyze. You could argue Plankton foils SpongeBob's genuine love of the Krabby Patty (both making it and eating it) by being obsessed with it. SpongeBob lives a happy life by just enjoying the simple things his life offers him, even his job, which he is passionate about even if it would never bring him success, while Plankton has the power to do basically anything he wants, but he can't ever be satisfied, because he will always fail at obtaining what SpongeBob has.
Anyway, literally all of this is just baby's first literary analysis, I'm sure others can find a better interpretation.

I think people who complain about quinton having absurdly long videos where he just recaps episode plots have never watched anything he's actually made in good faith.
Because the actual plot recaps are minimal and he usually talks about the production behind the scenes, whatever toys or merchandise is out when it was popular, tie-in games, online side content. Hell, he literally recreated a lost pilot to give more context for Sam and Cat's existence as a show.
One doesn't have to like his analysis, but it is there. And that alongside all of the obvious effort that goes into just editing a multi hour project, I feel it shows how much passion he has for what he makes.
Ill be happy to see whatever comes next, no matter how long or comparatively short they may be

i genuinely step away from his videos with less knowledge about the episodes than i have about whatever half related tangent he thought was more important/interesting and it's earnestly one of the things i love most about his retrospectives.
Something I enjoyed about his iCarly/Sam & Cat series is the way some of these seemingly random moments came back towards the end when discussing on-set experiences. (For example, the episode of Sam & Cat where Ariana Grande's character is stuck in a box.)
Hi unfortunately i am extremely autistic about danny phantom and vlad actually happens to be my favorite character, so just a little correction: the whole bit about his castle now being in amityville is correct, cuz vlad lives in madison, wisconsin and that is where his castle is located, so it is not actually an error, however danny calling him "that guy" is wild when he had an entire mean nickname for the guy throughout the show (fruit loop)

It is fascinating how the Volcano game was more a SpongeBob/Danny Phantom crossover than the other franchises. They got the most characters, start and end the game with SpongeBob and Danny, and you only get Timmy late in the game.

They also told me that doing a regular download took over 8 hours cause they carpooled to work and took the bus home and it was still downloading. Also that it took close to an hour to move to an ssd with usb c but they’re 2 hours away from finishing actually watching the video.
Hypothetically speaking if what I heard and has been alleged you can still watch it.

Quinton's "Terminator Effect" is what I usually call the "Star Fox Effect".
There was Star Fox, Star Fox 64 (which was a remake of the original), Star Fox 2 (cancelled), Star Fox Adventures (which was a completely different game that was essentially rebranded as Star Fox), Star Fox Assault, Star Fox Command (non-canon), Star Fox 64 3D (a remake), and Star Fox Zero (a reimagining of 64).
So we had 8 games over 30 years... and 3 of them are actual continuity. in fact, 4 of them are the SAME GAME.
Star Fox 2 was eventually released on the SNES mini.

@@CodeNameX001 Well the Star Fox 64 had the longest continuity through Command (4 games). Also, we can throw Starlink after Zero as the only game with plot continuity for it. Star Fox is honestly the rare Nintendo game with some continuity. Pikmin 4 just retconned the entire series. None of the Paper Mario games have continuity with each other. Most of the Fire Emblem games are unrelated. Zelda games keep inventing timelines to remotely keep them in continuity.
@@PIKMINROCK1 The Fire Emblem games may be mostly unrelated, but they're still mostly all set within the same continuity and thus easily canon. The first one to break that was Awakening explicitly being set in a different world.
@@Cr3zant if it wasn't for Awakening, they don't really work as the same continuity aside from select games. They are effectively grouped in pairs aside from Sacred Stones and the general histories don't overlap too well. And the later Fire Emblems are completely incompatible with Awakening aside from the multiverse

one of the most recognizable enemies in this game is Mr Snuggles, a pink teddy bear who seems in no way inappropriate for a Nickelodeon game. This is unless we use the free-look tool included with the Dolphin emulator so that we can unlock the camera and get a closer look at Mr Snuggles' box. While the image here is actually oriented upside-down as they never expected anybody to actually see this, what it actually says is, "I'll hug you and kill you. You'll never sleep again. I'll kill your parents." Always fun knowing there's all kinds of traumatizing stuff hidden just out of view in kids' games.
