I've made the switch over to crossbow from compound simply because as we get older, it's difficult to sit for 4 plus hours in the cold, and then try to regain the muscle memory required to accurately shoot a vertical bow. This was a very fair video, and you treated the differences between both bows equitably. Nice job!

Same here, at 61 it was getting kind of tough. With the crossbow I kind of limit myself to 40 yards.

Thank you. Very informative. Next month will be my first crossbow hunt. I'm set up for a 20 to 30 yard shot. I know I can hit my aim at 50 yards but hoping I will not need to. I've always been a rifle hunter.

You know, Ralph, you made a lot of really good points. But I watched the Outdoor Channel all the time. Or when I can. And I am always seeing these compound guys. Shooting 80 yards in which I feel is way too far for a compound bow or crossbow But they still do it all the time. And I am shot crossbows here now for quite a few years. Because I am a truck driver and I can't practice with the compound like I used to. So the crossbow is really a great tool for me. But as far as performance, I used to shoot a lot of compounds for years and I have never seen any compound bow That can out perform crossbow Because the crossbows even with the heavier arrows. If that's what you Care to shoot them so fast that kinetic energy. It blows the doors off of any compound I've ever seen. Not saying that a compound doesn't have the energy to get the job done. But for me, the crossbow works the best. And I try to shoot mine 40 yd and in. And if I was still shooting a compound. I would do it the same way 40 yd or in

That was really well said Ralph I'm glad somebody yes come on here and made a video like this to show that a crossbow is really designed for close range I'm not saying if a guy wants to shoot a hundred yards just to shoot that's all well and fine but I agree 40 to 50 yards and closer this is the best but you know I watch The Outdoor Channel a lot and I see these guys with compound bows trying to make 80-yard shots on deer and that's wrong they shouldn't be doing this because a lot of people will see that and they will think well if I buy that compound bow and I use the same Broadhead that guy's using I should be able to do the same thing because actually a compound bow is for close range as well thanks for the video though

Do you also hunt with the Lever crossbow that is lying on your desk? I would be interested to know to what extent this crossbow is suitable for hunting or only for target practice.

Use heavier arrows it will also help quiet things down as well

I've got my Vapor 470 sighted out to 80 yds. I hit consistently. I hunt with it out to 75 yds.

There are charts that can tell you at what distance the sound will reach target so you can know that game won't "jump the string"
like this guy said don't assume chrony your xbow.

If you think a deer can jump a string in 1/2sec you probably should stay at home because you are probably going to get lost in the wood.

if you think deer stand there and take it like a champ ....you're crazy....they are moving. Maybe you've just gotten really good at setting up for a kill shot and are overlooking a bit of string jump because it's not affecting your results...been bowhunting for 55 years ...trust me they are doing something.

@@patrickstewart3255 and in the last 55 years things have changed, no deer on this earth will react fast enough with a modern quality crossbow, don't care what you "claim" physics says otherwise.

I believe there is ample evidence a deer can easily jump the string at in 1/2 second. It may not get completely out of the way by moving forward or sideways. But it will definitely crouch or go down just enough for a shot to miss high or strike high in a non-vital wounding area, resulting in a missed shot or non-trackable, lost animal.
