The epi has a fuller bottom end as you would expect from any LP guitar. If I was only going to play heavy rock I would probably lean towards that one. However, the SE DGT is way more versatile and has a trem, has an amazing top end that's not too harsh. I have a PRS SE Custom24 which sounds great except that when I use the bridge pickup I have to roll off the tone a bit, too bright. I've also owned a PRS S2 McCarty 594, best playing guitar I've ever had but a bit too dark for the styles I need to cover. So, I now have a PRS SE DGT, sounds and plays amazing in any pickup configuration. In fact, this is completely a matter of opinion but it's the best sounding guitar I've ever had. I also have a Schecter Nick Johnston PT, which is my versatile non-tremelo option and a great guitar as well.
For sure mate, in terms of heavy rock tones I’d probably lean towards Epi as well, but the PRS SE DGT is very hard to beat in terms of versatility and playability, there’s not a bad tone on this instrument and if I was to use just one guitar it’d be the PRS. Nice one regarding the Schecter Nick Johnston, been meaning to try one out for ages, they sound great on all the demos I’ve heard 🍻
I honestly forgot that I was supposed to listen for differences. I just listened to the great playing and the music from two darn good guitars! But DGT for me, as I like to have split-coils.
Thank you so much my friend, very kind of you :)! Indeed, the DGT is hard to beat in terms of versatility but like you mentioned, these are 2 fantastic guitars, even more so when you consider their price point. Cheers for checking the video out 🍻
Thank you so much my friend, very glad you enjoyed the video! These are 2 fantastic instruments for the money for sure, it’s definitely worth considering having both :)! 🍻
They'll sound even more alike if they had exactly the same pickups in them. But the Les Paul sounds louder so it's hard to tell how fair. I like loud open sounding pickups and the PRS just sounds tamer from seeming quieter. I'd boost the volume of the PRS in the mix of the video until it sounded the same level as the Gibson. This is important because all guitars have different outputs and the voice with gain is affected a lot from how loud the pickup is. It's like they're the same guitar but the PRS is quieter, less highs and probably doesn't bark as hard on gain. But let's say you took both guitars as they're not the premium line and you turned them from intermediate guitars to pro level? Put some pickups in the guitars, but if you get two sets you can try both guitars with each set. e.g. for the PRS you decide to upgrade to their USA Tremonti pickups and the Epiphone you go with the same pickups in their Custom Range at Gibson. But you try the PRS USA pickups in both guitars and the Gibson Burstbuckers in both. Which guitar sounds the best consistently would be easier to tell if the pups were the same. Personally pickup wise I'd go with Dimarzio 37th Anniversary set in the Les Paul. Gibson voiced with all the benefits of Dimarzio silk. In the PRS .... Super Distortion + Air Norton. Everything from classic to prog.
Epi LP 59 was my previous guitar. Now coincidently i have prs se dgt. I thought that i need another LP but in your video, they do sound quite similar. If you ONLY have a prs se dgt, what guitar would you get if you want more tones variety? Strat / tele / others??
Hi mate, nice one, the PRS SE DGT is a great guitar. Like you said they can sound rather similar when comparing the humbucker tones, imo the PRS SE DGT coil split tones can cover some of the tele tones, so I'd probably get a Strat for the in-between tones. positions 2 and 4 on a strat are some of my fav tones, so I'd go with that 🍻
@@nh8781 If you preferred Tele to Strat, the Fender Vintera 50's modified is an interesting one. Those pickups sound nice, better than when the PRS DGT is doing coil split, I think. But it has four positions, so more tonal variation than most Telecasters. If not doing higher gain rock/metal mostly, another good flexible option might be a P90 guitar, a 335-style guitar, maybe with a Bigsby? As an alternative option, I love my Baum Wingman too btw, shades of Fender Jazzmaster, but some touches of Gibson too.
Look aside, with today's prices the PRS is about 100$ cheaper. That could go towards locking tuners or any other upgrade. I'd get the one that feels best in my hands.
Indeed mate, here in the UK the Epiphone is still a bit cheaper than the PRS SE DGT, but either guitars are ready to gig with the PRS SE having a much more expensive feel to it, it gets you very close to the full PRS experience in terms of finish and playability.
Indeed mate, they’re both great in their own way and you’re right, even though I didn’t demo it here, the split tones on this PRS SE model are excellent, some of the best I’ve heard sure. Nice!! The PRS CEs sound and play awesome, I’ve been on the lookout for one and I’ll defo grab a satin version if I see a good deal online 🍻
Both guitars are excellent, but which one do you think sounds best?

Which was quality wise better overall. I mean straight out of the box. Frets, finish, action etc.
The PRS is way better in terms of setup straight of the box mate. QC wise I'd still give the edge to the PRS.

Talented mofo. This is one of, if not the best comparison video I've ever seen. Slick AF.

That PRS SE DGT sounds fantastic!!!
It does indeed mate, sounds great!
This is such a great comparison video of two excellent budget guitars 🎸 it makes me & probably many others, want to buy both guitars!
Thank you so much my friend, very glad you enjoyed the video! These are 2 fantastic instruments for the money for sure, it’s definitely worth considering having both :)! 🍻
Great Demo Man! I'm Getting a DGT soon!!!
Thank you mate, really appreciate it. Congrats on getting a DGT, fantastic instruments!
Really love to see a video on your backing tracks and mixing process. Sounds amazing.

Finally a video with good high gain sounds from the 59 epI
Thank you mate, appreciate it!

Do you have any Strats in your collection btw? I havent found sound / tones comparison video between prs se dgt vs strats type guitar in youtube
@@nh8781 I do, mate. Funny you ask, I'm planning on doing a PRS/Fender comparison soon ;)
Nice 👍i ll be lookin forward to it 😁

Epi comes with a nice hardcase though
Nice comparison, what plugin/amp are you using ?
Thanks mate, I’m using ToneX on all the rhythm tracks and Neural DSP’s Soldano on the cleans and leads 🍻
@@gabriel_guitar sounds great, thank you!
My pleasure mate
@gabriel_guitar I also have the SE DGT and the tonex but I don't manage to get a good distortion like you. Which capture are you using?
They sound the same to me
DGT for the win.
Nice one mate, it’s an awesome guitar for sure 🍻
Love the playing 🤟
Thanks Jay, appreciate it mate 🍻
Wow , they both sound awesome , I would probably go for the dgt as it has split coil capability
I just bought a Paul reed smith CE 24 and it’s awesome
