How to Check Intake Port Matching from Cylinder Head to Intake Manifold

- In this video, I show the steps needed to check the proper intake manifold and cylinder head port alignment and show you where material can be removed to improve the flow. This same method can be used on the exhaust ports to exhaust manifold or headers.

You're the only guy who's doing port matching right! Most of the other fellows are doing gasket matching, which means the runners enlarge at the flanges and narrow down again as it reaches the valves, causing air velocity to drop at some point. Excellent video!

Hi mark, in a totally unrelated question. I replaced lifers on a 03 4.7 ram 1500 and I noticed after lubing and and installation and cracking by hand first couple revolutions and now couple day use with truck, I noticed my tap of the infamous second lifter tap on the passenger side again? Any suggestions on how I can remedy this problem or just redo. Thank you in advance for your reply 👍

yes, I'm just not using the knock sensors on the HO engine
You think there would be any good way to put the 08 heads on an older 4.7? Or be better to just replace the whole engine with an 08 engine? I know you had mentioned the ports not being the same size.
I'm looking into it, it's the combustion chambers that I believe are larger on the 08's. I think it would be best just to swap the whole engine.
@@martinbuilt Alright. My 99 has had a lifter tap since my parents bought it in 07 or 08. After seeing that video I'm somewhat a little scared now. And it has been overheated at least 3 times. No milkshake and has always ran fine. Has been one of the two best vehicles I've ever had.
Question is it possible to swap the v8 4.7 for the inline 6 4.0 if so how more reliable is the inline six and would it bolt right to the transmission or would that have to be swapped as well
you'll need to change the transmission, the ECM/PCM, radaitor and wiring. It can be done and has been done in the pasts.
martinbuilt is the 6 more reliable then the v8
@@dennismack6389 yes it will put with more than the 4.7, the 4.0 is best suited for people that don't maintain their engines.
Do you think getting these heads cnc’d are worth it?
I would just clean the ports up a little (polish them) there are a lot larger then the 07 and earlier heads.

Yea but I’d recommend the 08-11 cams they’re actually bigger lobed

I was gonna port my head's when I changed them out but I talked myself out of it......lol.....
yeah, I think I'm just going to clean up the runners and do most of the porting in the bowls.
