I would love to see a physical upgrade kit for the poor numb like me who have the old core box (I know the cards can be downloaded) . Also, I’m wondering if they made the hammer of the miniature hollow inside, because if it’s not the case,if you let it on your table for a couple of days it will bend for sure at some point because of the weight… anyway, I found all of that a bit frustrating, first they stopped guild ball despite of the community and now that,thanks steamforged games :(. Nice video tho!

this looks like a pretty good core set if you don't already have the OG core set. I, for example, bought the Painted World core set half a year ago and then got explorers, iron keep and last giant expansion just so that SFG announced their new core set like a month after i had bought the last giant :(
Caestus, Great Wooden Hammer were both in the original core set's Warrior deck, and Cornyx's Robes were in Pyromancer's. So it's all the same items.
Interesting that the Gargoyle's weapons are now Legendary. This suggests that SFG may not reintroduce the Gargoyle in future core sets.
Yeah, i thought so, but i couldnt find those 3 items among my cards. Yes, it seems so for the gargoyles and I also found it odd regarding the asylum demon’s treasure too. Cheers!
Seems like a good start for someone looking to jump into the dark souls board game for the first time (apologies to the veterans who may see this product as “cash grab” but i think this looks like a solid starter for the newbies).
The MSRP for this is $110. You can buy the old core set for $120. The old core set contains 1 extra character, more game tiles, 3 extra mini bosses (Gargoyle seems like it will never be reprinted too), 1 extra boss, 1 extra enemy, better character boards and you can just download the v2 upgrade content for free. So you get better compatibility for v1 content, can get the v2 content (with SFG promising to allow you to buy card packs for the v2 content at some point.
So yeah, this is almost certainly a cash grab. They are selling you a lot less content for almost the same price.
@@Mrfinch9999 I think 3rd party sites where selling sunless city for like 77$ which sounds pretty good . I would never pay msrp if I can help it.

Sorry for the disturbance. Great content here. I'm playing with my first core set and... What's the issue with the encounter card called black dungeon... And the other one called temple of deeps.. We are supposed to put more minis on the tiles, than the maximum we got in the core box... Any explanations? I maybe get wrong somewhere to understand how to play but it seems very strange for me...

Great video! It helps me to identify which treasure cards to take from the différent old expansions. Just missing the treasure of the original core set to take and the fourth legendary weapon to take.

Does the old expansions work with the new cores? I'm just getting into the board game and received two of the old expansions. I do not own any of the cores but this one is probably the first one imma buy. Also, How many of each sleeve should I purchase. Would 50 of each except the tarot one be enough?
Hi, welcome to the Dark Souls Board game! So all the old mega bosses will work, the new core sets (sunless city, tomb of giants & painted world) & characters & phantoms expansions. Darkroot and Iron Keep will partially work, because the encounter cards are not yet compatible. Regardin the sleeves, i will cover that on the review next week. Cheers!

Glad I have the old game (not that it is the greatest game though) because this is such a cash grab. You really don't get what you pay for. It's just a 3rd of what's in the old version at the same price and it's basically the same game, and as always, full of misprints. What a piece of garbage. I like your very informative videos though. 😊

Get the original. It has more content and is compatible with v1.
It is also going to get increasingly hard to get (and more pricey) as it is out of print (so it will be worth more with time).
Some content from the original may never be available again (including the gargoyle miniboss and the large hollow enemy which look pretty certain to never appear again.)
And you can print pdf conversion file for the set anyways (with SFG saying they are going to sell v2 upgrade cards at some point.
So if SFG does not update all the v1 content, you can use everything. If they do, you have access to v2 content anyways.
I forgot to mention, the price for the old core set has already increased by about $20 in the last few weeks on Amazon. I expect the price of the old core set to skyrocket because it is SIGNIFICANTLY better than the current set.
The character boards are much better, two more mini bosses, one more boss, four characters instead of two, one extra enemy, more game tiles, etc.
I own TOMB of giants and painted world of ariamis.do the expansions for the older dark souls board game can be combined with the new ones?
Hi, the Mega Boss expansions can without any changes. The Darkroot, Iron Keep and Explorers dont have the same encounter cards used on the new campaign system. Steamforged Games announced they will update these expansions encounters but no ETA yet. Cheers!

They made some pretty bad design choices for these core sets. Glad I have the original.
@@gmorales9310 just notice that the thing changes the color slightly so is to track it... But I feel using a little bean will do the job just fine
Haha when I recently bought Tomb set, I punched out the tokens from my character sheets (all of them). Oopsy!

I think it's absolutely ridiculous that it's even an option to punch those out. The new player boards are just worse than the original ones.

Hi, they have not updated the rules for the following expansions yet: Iron Keep, Darkroot & Explorers.
You can though play the core sets with any Mega Boss expansion.
