  • I ordered a mobile phone adapter for my microscope from China (for EUR 2.20, $3), and am happy with it. I want to compare it to my other cell phone adapter. This adapter is also able to accept larger eyepeices, eg for stereo microscopes or telescopes.
Link to the review video of the other adapter (the grey one) in the video:

IMPORTANT NOTE: The price increased significantly. I only paid EUR 2.20 for the adapter and no shipping charge (this is why I ordered it), but now the price is over $60 (shipping extra).

Your command of the English language, grammar and phraseology is excellent and for technically minded viewers is much appreciated Ollie. And of course, your enthusiasm for your subject and desire to share shines through above all.

Just HOLD your finger on the screen and it will autolock the focus.

Great help as always. I'm waiting for my phone adapter to arrive, but I can already see the huge advantage of my cellphone recording actually what I see through the eyepiece. I actually want to use my trinocular port for the camera, and replace the standard USB 2.0 camera I have there at the moment, and signs of how to do this are promising indeed. I have installed one of the many phone to PC/ Tablet apps that mirror your phone onto the screen, and if it helps anyone who is looking, it's looking very good at the moment with the ""Samsung Flow"app. I'm hoping to be able to keep both my eyes on the eyepieces, and just click on the mirrored image of the phone on the screen to do rather better videos than my the USB camera.

On the Camera app for the phone you are using go to "Pro" and then tap the "AF" labeled icon. Touch the scale or the white label that says "Auto". It will change to "Manual". I don't think "Pro" can use any secondary lenses, though.

Samsung released a software update in July for the Samsung S21 Ultra that let's you choose any of its 3 lenses while using the Pro (manual) mode. So finally it's possible to use the x10 periscope len with manual focus and exposure, and it's great with the 3rd ocular on my microscope.

@@BG-il2ym Great news for my Note8. But thanks for the info. I'll make sure my app is updated and see if it applies to my phone too.

Here is my observation on various digital capture device on field of view (FOV) and image quality compare to analog eye piece
    1. 1280 x 720 USB optical sensor : FOV 25% , quality : acceptable
    2. Mobile phone camera : FOV 50% , quality : mediocre and flat with digital zoom.
    3. Compact camera/DSLR on tripod move very close to eye piece : FOV 80% , quality : very good
IMHO, anyone already own a tripod and compact camera that can feed to the computer or HDMI, you should try that setup first than getting a mobile phone adapter. Bear in mind that some compact camera/DSLR come with bluetooth/WIFI connection that allow remote viewing and trigger.

what lens do you use for something like this with a DSLR?

    • @moot2046
      @moot2046 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@nocash669 for DSLR, just get the T2 adapter with a hollow barrel that let you slide in the microscope eyepiece. You need measure the eyepiece size to make sure you get the correct size adapter

Can you use it with stereo zoom microscope as well???

  • @LostBeetle

Do you know if there is any way possible to mount a phone on the photo tube? I don't want to lose an eyepiece, I want to view through the eyepiece and record passively as I am observing. Microscope cameras are so expensive and from what I have gathered, a phone camera usually makes better video anyway.

I’ve got the first adapter you featured and I do not get a full screen view on my phone. All I get is a small circle ⭕️ sized view so not sure what I’m doing wrong

Oliver, if you use the phone adapter on the trinocular head you can use your short 25X eyepiece, because the cranking wheel will clamp on the phototube of your trinocular head. You only did the demonstration on the binocular part of your scope much more limitied and in the say of bumping it. The trinocular head is more stable for these phone adapter. One thing that is annoying for this adapter is if your phone has three cameras, three lenses each time you use the phone adapter it will only cover one and if you jog the other two into play, you must readjust the phone adapter to gain the image again, I need to find an app that will deativate the cameras and only allow one to be used. Your camera apparently only has one lens to use and therefore you didn't have this problem, very annoying and you would have talked about that and let the viewers know this is an inherent problem, where the phone automatically trys to compensate using the other lens and the image is lost. Hope that makes sense so your users can be aware.

Not sure about clamping, pressure points would worry me - obviously over a long period of time. Great video - as always ❤️💖💕. It wouldn't surprise me, given the quality of the review, if someone is China decides to make a new adapter based on this review 😉

On Android phones you just tap the screen to force the camera to focus on that spot. Surely iPhones are similar.
