What do YOU think of the GX? Is this your kind of SUV or not? The full review will be coming soon..I decided to post this first! *Thanks for watching and have a great day!*
Have had my 2020 (in Atomic Silver) for 3 weeks and absolutely love the old school sturdiness blended perfectly with luxury that suits its overall persona very nicely.
It's a decent truck with good off-road capability, but for 99% of the time I'll be commuting on the freeway and use it for weekend Costco trips. Can't justify myself buying a body-on-frame SUV for that 1% off-road use. Ended up buying an Acura MDX. It serves my purpose.
I bought a 2021 one of these with low mileage. Its the Premium sport pack so it has the 19" rims but mine doesnt have the adjustable suspension or rear air bags. I actually find the ride kind of rough and I feel like a lot of the road imperfections are transmitted into the vehicle. I read a lot about these being silky smooth and glide over rough surface. Not what I'm experiencing. (Tires are at correct pressure). Any other owners feel this way?
The GX is the most bang for buck for a Lexus, and for a super capable SUV. With that said, I really wanted the 2020 to have the updated infotainment you mentioned, and I’d like adjustable length seats for the ass part like the ES has when you pony up a few dollars extra for that option. I’d like the eco, normal, and sport mode to take care of the sleepy accelerator pedal. Everything else I could care less about. It truly is perfect. So The LS 460 has a port and direct injection system and different tuning to give it the extra 80 horsepower. I feel if they do ANYTHING to this 4.6L it will take away its reliability. It will last 500,000+ with proper maintenance the way it is. I know Lexus will take care of these issues. Once they do, I will be purchasing one that day. I simply can’t spend mid 50s on a 2020 with the outdated stuff you mentioned. Still considering a mint condition GX 470, or if I can find a one owner accident free GX 460 that will be OK too. These things hold their value and that’s awesome and says a lot about it.
I’ve personally driven and taken road trips in 2018 Prado in Costa Rica and the overall interior feels more roomy than a the GX. the prado is more spartan both in the interior and exterior than the GX. It actually felt more like a 4runner with a Diesel engine rather than a GX, I think Is because the prado is more of a main stream SUV and not a full on luxury like the GX the ride was also somewhat rough
I had one 2019 three monts,I wasn't happy, specially hvy traffic stop and go.Bought 2020 rx 350,allot better for city daily driving, more comfortable too.
i just bought one and i love it. i am a software engineer and i do not care about the old electronics. i see how quick android and iphone get updated and i already get the latest iphone 11. the gx 460 is like a bottle of well aged wine. it's quiet, luxurious, smooth and comfortable. i can sit tall and see other cars' roof on the road. it's very reliable. if you see other 2008 luxury car's interior they are falling apart, but if you check 2008 gx it is still solid today. it gets ok mpg. the only drawback is its low tank capacity.
That’s great to hear! I’m sure it will continue to serve you well for a long time! There are several GX 470s in my area that are still in perfect condition (at least to my eye) and I know the reliability reputation these have, awesome!
@@PrimeAutotainment the durability and decade lasting high quality are just not talked of on commercials and on paper. you can see tons of land cruisers and 4runners in rural areas but neither G wagon nor range rover. because all they can do are a few off-road demos. if you drive them often things will break and indicator lights will go off. you drive over a puddle and water gets into the transmission electronic detector the car stalls. g wagon and range rovers are just off-roading jokes. no offense:-)
Agreed, I think it looks better now even though it’s still similar...kinda polarizing though that’s for sure lol. Thanks man! Have a great weekend! You on Christmas break now?
Prime Autotainment Yes I’m on Christmas Break it blanking started today but yea and what do polarizing mean because every time I look it up it just the not best definition
The problem with that vehicle or should I say type of vehicle is the manufactures have you by the nuts so to speak. What I mean by this is there isn't many options out there for body on frame SUVs/SUVs that are capable off road. Basically you have 4Runners, GX or something like a Land Cruiser if you want something bigger. They know this, so they have no motivation to improve interior electronics and/or designs. There isn't really any competition anymore for these types of vehicles.
That’s why I love sequoia so much , just for the huge space . I do like the performance Lexus have . Buy compare everything, I prefer sequoia for home use .
I like big grills, I cannot lie. Do Lexus owners take the Lexus’s to the dealerships to be serviced to just to wherever? I do like the looks of the vehicle though. Love the color.
Leo the short guy this color is really neat. The overcast conditions and lighting didn’t do it justice. It’s really premium looking. The nice thing about Lexus is a lot of component carry over with mass market Toyota so they can be serviced pretty much anywhere
The only thing I dislike is then infotainment. But that’s always been a Toyota/Lexus issue as long as it’s been around. I wanted an off road capable SUV and chose this over a 4Runner (its brother) 4Runner has the same interior sizing issues. But my youngest is 6 and I’ve always kept my car seats in the passenger rear so I can access the kiddo much easier than behind me.
Wow that infotainment screen... yeah major loss on that one. I like the red interior though! Sorta reminds me of your Camry review with the red interior. Seems the Toyotas and Lexus vehicles don't offer much headroom (or I'm just tall - not sure which). Keep up the great vids!
Thank you Chris! Yeah crazy to see the same red in both vehicles but they seem to like it! I’m a fan of it, definitely breaks up the blandness if some interiors
Excellent video, Nolan! I 100% agree with your likes and dislikes. That infotainment system definitely needs to go. I really like the sport appreciate package on this model, but not so much the "non-sportified" model... It reminds me too much of it's Toyota counterpart. Keep these videos coming! GREAT WORK!
I am concerned about the cargo space. I need room for 4 or 5 people plus gear, recovery equipment and snow boards. I hate to step up to an LX, as I prefer the size of the GX.
So... first of all, I find it very cool that Lexus has kept the price fairly low on a reliable V-8 luxury SUV that will last longer than me. When they beef it up to 380HP it's gonna cost you $$ (the fuel mileage does suck though). If you had gotten the standard version (not luxury) you would have the bench second row and another $15,000 in your pocket. The add-ons with the LUX version are not worth the cost unless you tow a heavy load (and then you want a Sequoia). The one I'm looking at is under $52K with the premium pkg and some discounts. The only thing Lexus really messed up is the center stack. If they had added carplay and a high resolution 8" screen they would have the absolutely best product in the SUV world. I may use an ipad mini to compensate??
Underpowered V8 is one of the reasons it can run forever. It's understressed. Same w old Town Cars. V8 engine putting out 205HP. You can put 400k miles on them.
I didn’t buy it, it was a tester. None of those are reasons to keep me away from it. I liked it and truly appreciate its appeal as being reliable and capable
Just traded my 2007 GX470 Premium for a 2019 GX460 base. Probably the biggest mistake I’ve ever made in terms of vehicle purchases. The 2007 is a much better vehicle. I had it for 13 years and swore I’d never own anything other than a GX. Well, I’ve had the 2019 GX 460 for about 3 months now and I can honestly say that I despise it.....no.....I loathe it. Going right back to the dealership as soon as winter is over. I will be looking for a lightly used land cruiser. So disappointed!
Haha you’re welcome! Definitely, a specific buyer for this one! Crazy thing is...just about every time I see one of these, new or old, it’s a lady driving. I wonder what’s going on there
Buy a 2010-2013. Nearly same and will last. And btw, the fact women driving these is awesome. Mall crawler, Lexus maintained, and never off roades = win!!! Women also drive 4 runners Tacoma’s and F150’s.
Haha that’s not true at all. You obviously didn’t watch the video. That’s one of my likes. I own two Toyota’s (they make Lexus). I love Lexus and toyota did their reliability. I make these 5 likes/dislikes on lots of brands
Not true review ok. You knew evey thing before got it. 2020 new how come u know it's reliable huh, liar......buying a expensive car just got 50/ 50 or as u said 5 /5 likes or dislikes, why u decided to get it home......many things more in this review are unacceptable though. You're young but.......
Mark - this isn’t a review. It’s 5 things I like and 5 things I don’t...I made that pretty clear. I don’t own this. It was a 1 week loan to create content with. I made 1 actual review and this video. I know it’s reliable because it hasn’t changed in years. 2020, 2019, 2018 and many years before are virtually the same. Might as well buy one 10 years old for much less because it’s basically the same. Don’t come at me guns blazing lol
Not gonna lie cant get past that outdated info cen. At least if it had android auto ppl could just ignore it and that fuel econ and underpower..cant justify the cost

That’s great to hear! 😁👍
The engine is “underpowered” in order for this thing to surpass 500k miles with ease
Preach.
I love everything about the GX.
Expect the gas mileage 😩
yes
The LS460 got direct and port injection which increased horsepower, not sure why they didn’t offer it for the GX

Rx is a woman's car
GX is good but fact is that Lexus sales has drop a lot that just shows people are tired of the same old models.

robert h we have two Toyota’s at home...ones an ‘04 and it’s solid! 👌
everything old school. and thats what i love about it
I love my 2017 GX. It is the smoothest most capable family SUV.

i feel your pain i have 2014 and 3 kids its so small for me. I am looking to change it to ESV or NAVIGATOR L version
buys a small SUV and doesn't like how there's no cargo room. 🤔
This is not a “small” SUV

Drove trd 4runner and new 460. I will take the 4runner and put savings towards a tundra with what ill save.
I wish the steering wheel be more smoother.
GX 460 running boards are great
Great video! Very informative. Thanks and keep up the great work!
Thank you very much!
Does anyone know how much the Sport package affects approach angle?
If it is the right angle 📐then triangle

Like HOLY FUCK it is outdated, luxury my ass
I'll pass. So many other options out there. I'd put the front end on the hate list. Nice video, though.
I know what you mean! It’s super polarizing haha. Thanks for watching as always!
Front end is nice
I am looking for a used GX 460 and I am targeting 2010 - 2013, because that is before the new grill. I like the older style over the new one.
Bro there is plenty of room in trunk and I’m 6’0 and I fit perfectly in the back
Yeesack Films a RAV4 and Honda CR-V have more cargo space than this...that’s ridiculous
I am concerned about the cargo space. I need room for 4 or 5 people plus gear, recovery equipment and snow boards. I hate to step up to an LX, as I prefer the size of the GX.
Idc about old infotainment. My good tech is on my phone. So as long as i can connect its all good.
If Lexus were to make the running boards optional, people will make videos on how it should be standard.
Doubt it

Thanks . good video.
Thank you!
16mpg?
22-24 mpg hw cruising at 65-70
How the rear door swings out instead of UP & a weak engine is the DEAL BREAKER.. what a waste

That was my mistake of buying 2014. There is no space at all. I would recommend a new lincoln navigator or escalade esv
I can’t get past the front/grille. Game over for me
Thank you for this wakeup slap 😂
