30 years later and I still can't believe that the Warrior won! I thought that Hogan was going to win for sure when he kicked out of the Warrior Splash and started hulking up, like he always does in his matches. I leaped out of my chair and started jumping around like an idiot when Hogan missed the leg drop and Warrior pinned him. Best. Match. Ever. (At the time, of course)

I feel Hogan gets a bit too much stick at times, this match was great by anyones standards, his Japan work and the fact he was one of the very few able to carry warrior to a good match, speaks volumes.
Once he got to the top of the mountain he knew that he didn't need to do much technical wrestling. He was smart in that he knew when to give more and he knew when he could get away with less. Why go the extra mile when literally nobody wants to see that from you? He was much more than the Hulk up, leg drop and pose, but people didn't want any more than that back then. As the video said, wrestling is more than just the in-ring moves, sometimes (probably most of the time) it's about the emotion these guys can draw out of the crowd. Hogan was very good at reading and working the crowd.
Hogan was actually a very good wrestler for his size, but his gimmick under WWF meant he never had to use it, but in Japan and even against the Rock, he pulled out great matches.
@@jokerzwild00 This is a bit false. Yeah, it's likely that Hogan realized at a point that he didn't need to try anymore because of his rise to superstardom, but demographics played a huge part in Hogan's decision to wrestle simpler. American pro-wrestling favored the gimmick over in-ring ability, it's why when he worked matches in Japan, he was far more technical than he let off during his time in the WWE. Hogan was smart and knew what each demographic favored, and it must also be said that he was trained by Hiro Matsuda. If Matsuda trained you, you weren't a crummy wrestler. Check out his 1991 match against Genichiro Tenryu, you can see Hulk doing drop toeholds and enziguris, it's surreal.
Correct. I completely stopped watching this around ‘92. It got really stupid. They added female wrestlers (a lot of them). Most of the fan favorites (Hogan, Savage, Warrior) went to the NWA. Wrestlers started to die or just leave. Fell in love with the NBA and NFL and forgot about this. I wonder why people today still watch this garbage

I'll be honest and admit I was genuinely shocked when I watched this live on Sky TV. Hulk Hogan seemed to win all the time and now he'd just lost. Cleanly pinned in the middle of the ring.
Yeah, Hogan matches were so formulaic back then. The finish would always be opponent does his finisher. Hogan looks done. Pin, 1, 2, Hogan kicks out does his Hulk out, big boot, leg drop, 1,2,3. I was a Warrior fan back then, I thought there was no way that they would let him beat Hogan clean. Then Warrior pressed him, and went for the pin. Hogan hulks out and i went "aargh here we go." My favorite buildup to my first WrestleMania. Still my favorite match. They used the royal Rumble - the actual Rumble for a couple of WM6 matches. This was why I became a wrestling fan. Straight magic status . . .
This was my first WrestleMania and 11-year-old me was a big fan of both Hogan and Warrior, leaning more toward Warrior, and I remember being so hyped for this and wishing our cable company offered pay-per-view. I only heard the result at school from someone whose uncle in another town got to to see it. Say what you will about the match and the event but it and the build-up to it will always hold a special place in my heart!
The lead up the WM6 could have been done it the same way as WM5. Savage had the talent to carry that story for the full year ably supported by Hogan and Elizabeth. A long build up between Warrior and Hogan would have run out of legs in short time. They did the right thing with a shorter build. Face v Face was pretty much unheard off back then. That held enough interest in itself.
I'd like to see a video on Tajiri... great competitor, won a few titles, massively over with fans and one of the few to receive a standing ovation after his last match
You know, Hogan cops a fair bit of flack for his lack of wrestling skill. While in the US and Canada at least, his style was typically that of a brawler. He was a power wrestler who used power moves, kicks, punches, slams etc and would never have matched it hold for hold with a Bret Hart or Mr Perfect. But if you see his matches in Japan, he did put a lot more actual wrestling into his matches. The guy was actually a very good worker in the ring, a lot better than he's given credit for and he managed that night in Toronto to bring out one of what I consider to be the Warrior's two best matches (the other being his WM7 match against Savage).
S. Wright the only thing that didn't make it work was the arena. Had it been something larger than life would have been better. Same case with WM 2000. They should have had that Ironman match at Mania. It was just too good. And business was more successful in 2000 than in 1991. So I don't get why not go to The Los Angeles Memorial Collaseum instead of going back to Anaheim. They had a chance to write that wrong.
Still the greatest ever wrestlemania match immho. Sure, they wasn't the greatest of wrestlers, but that didn't matter to us. These two (plus Savage) were the most exciting wrestlers to watch as a kid in the late 80s n early 90s. It's hard to say in words just how huge this match was all over the world. Good times.
Best wrestling channel period. The others dont do any justice. What you present in 10-20 minutes takes them 3 hours. Keep up the great work. I check every day for new content because TH-cam doesnt care whether I subscribe or not. I love the channel. Keep up the amazing work.
OSW does better and are a cleaner, funner, and more entertaining presentation. They review entire events, their build ups, and then their opinions and jokes. This guy is quite biased in his videos. Not much different than many of the other history revising sMarks on TH-cam.
I loved Hogan v Warrior. I was 11 at the time, a huge fan of both wrestlers but, enjoyed the Ultimate Warrior's character so much more than Hulk Hogan's. I was extatic when Warrior won the match, my hero had become the Champion. Good times 🙂
I watched this match last month, on the 1st, to commemorate its 30th year (UNBELIEVABLE!) anniversary and I still get excited watching it! I felt like 16 year old me watching this and just being overwhelmed with what I was about to witness. One of my best friends and I watched this live when it happened, even though we actually didn't pay for the pay per view. This was back in a time that if you had cable and if you tuned in to the ppv channel, you could see the action without sounds sometimes or vice versa. That is how we were able to watch the whole show and we were stunned to see Warrior getting the rare clean pin on Hogan! I will never, ever forget how awesome that was and I was a Hulkamanic! Awesome video, Sir, as usual! Be safe!
Thank you for acknowledging the emotion over technicality. Nobody seems to bring that out in these bios and it’s about the excitement. It’s entertainment and not how many moves you have. Everyone has their own opinion but emotion wins for me over technical moves!
Warrior was always my hero as a kid and i still love that character to this day. He might not of had the technical ability in the ring, but he got your attention, and he was a superhero to any kid in the 80's and 90's. R.i.p jim warrior hellwig
Fun fact. Hogan can actually wrestle. Check out his matches in NJPW. In WWF Hogan wrestled this simple style because it worked. The audience were into that style. In other promotions he bumped a lot.
Excellent video. Must admit I'm very much looking forward to your Hogan vs Sgt Slaughter video you mention at the end of this. If it's as good as all your previous uploads then it should be fantastic. Can't wait.
Always thought it was like a 3.1 count when Warrior beat Hogan. Like he barely beat him. You're right in regards to the audience's response to a match being the most important
Would have meant even more if Hogan didnt try to kick out right at the 3 count. Looking back now it didn't do Warrior any favours & his Title reign was doomed from the start
I mean I think they did it the right way. It's not like the Starrcade 1997 ending. It made Hogan look strong in defeat and he still lost clean. The problem was when he was in WCW and was telling Eric what to do and going into business for himself. Like the finger poke of doom and no selling Vader's finisher
@@Rosario_Verano He was the champion and the more established star at the time. Hogan would be coming back in a couple months. I think it looks better when you beat the guy with no outside inference in a very competitive match, in the main event of the biggest show of the year. In a winner take all championship match. It needed to be epic and was
When honkey tonk said he would “fight anyone” and The Warrior came out! That was AMAZING! My 8 year says that’s one of his favorite moments and he just watched it on TH-cam (over and over).. that was great.
well so what? He beat him, if you beat someone that looks strong, guess what, that makes you look stronger. If he just beat Hogan down to a pulp, then was Hogan really any good, then what does that say about beating him? Not really a big accomplishment to beat a bum or someone that's past his prime.
I heard in an interview, which I don’t remember where I saw it but Hogan had said that he wanted to turn heel after the match which is probably why he did what he did in the match. Of course it didn’t happen because Vinny Mac didn’t want him too.
Sting vs The Ultimate Warrior would have been a good match former tag team partners both solo careers started taking off at the same time in different companies
I was a massive ultimate warrior fan I couldn’t believe he beat hogan clean in the ring maybe it was the bright colours and face paint and that crazy entrance warrior did I do think he was underrated in the wrestling ability
What? "Underrated" in wrestling ability? Are you kidding me? He was absolute garbage in the ring. This isn't even debatable. He was over because of his over the top gimmick, being massively juiced and having a great physique, and being a product of the times. He WAS NOT a worker. Period, the end...
YQu're being TrQlled hogan also garbage in the ring, very limited moves/skills, very similar to john cena actually, they’re both just very fortunite that the wwf saw them as the faces of the company, there’s many many more skilled wrestlers than hogan from the same time, machoman... jake roberts... mr perfect..
Hogan tried to kick out after the 3 count because he only got pinned by a quick splash he wasn't badly hurt by the move so he tried to kick out but was too late...it will look too fake if he laid there pretending to be hurt from a bloody splash
Awesome mashup of their theme songs. You called every detail as you saw it & made very strong points. Man! When I was in the 6th grade The Ultimate Warrior (R.I.P.) was the only thing friends talked about, more than videogames & sports! Their promo before the Perfect (R.I.P.)/ Genius match is classic intensity! We didn't know how good we had it with characters back then. Men like Savage (R.I.P.), Perfect (R.I.P.), Steamboat, Bret, Bulldogs (R.I.P.) were better wrestlers, but you didn't know any better as a kid. You called it. Warrior's WM6 promo- that's what I remember most from that match. "you don't deserve to breathe the same air that HH & the UW breathe"- shoves the interviewer & finishes promo! If it was anyone else celebraring post match with the new champion it wouldn't have been a big deal, but knowing Hogan as we know Hogan-yeah- a glory hog. Knowing what we know now, you can tell how Gene (R.I.P.) couldn't stand being in the same space with Jim. I was super pissed when they took the IC title from him. If you time this just right, pause a half second after 12:13. As the image shifts from Hogan to Warrior you get this demonic-looking collage.
If you go back an watch the match. Watch how Earl almost botched the ending as he handed The Warrior the Championship Belt when it was scripted for Hogan to hand the belt to The Warrior as we see he did at the end.
At the time I was surprised that the Chumpster lost clean. Great vid as always. Can you do a vid about my favorite Randy Savage and the storyline he had with the warrior.
@Down the For accomplishing what? At least where I come from you don't reward a lack of accomplishment. The only thing he had going was the economy and now that is worse than ever.
@Down the That's flat out fiction. What you call "the Obama disaster" was a resurgence in the economy after the Bush Jr years left us in a recession. Trump inherited Obama's thriving economy. I should know, I lost everything in that recession and was able to rebuild it by the end of the Obama years. Are people really this clueless? How old are you?
@@BigBadJerryRogers Trump is undefeated against Democrats and liberal Hollywood. All they spend their time doing is losing to him while he's actually getting things done. #facts
There's more to wrestling than Indy Show high spots(which are more often botches than not btw) and having 142 mat wrestling holds and transitions. The "sMark" wrestling style that is often attempted in wrestling now is one of the reasons the product is trash. It caters to a very small, very loud niche in the wrestling fandom and literally no one else...
I never saw anything wrong with guys kicking out it 3 1/8 or anything like that I think it just shows a fighting spirit in them but they still lost fair and square. Hogan wasn't just going to lay there for four minutes after the pinfall. Also Ultimate Warrior was so blown up during this match he was having to do these extended holds forever it seemed like and he couldn't catch his breath if you look closely for most of the match. Lastly his combination of set up and finish moves were pretty dumb for a guy his size. The shoulder block look pretty good but the gorilla press slam didn't make a whole lot of sense because the guys usually fell on their stomach and then he would end up doing a splash on their back which didn't make any sense cuz he had to do it then flip them over. Lastly why is a guy 275 pounds has a finishing move have the big splash? It just doesn't make sense if the big boss man lands a splash but then someone kicks out of that but yet 260 to 275 pound Ultimate Warrior and you're knocked out cold

They should have had that Ironman match at Mania. It was just too good. And business was more successful in 2000 than in 1991. So I don't get why not go to The Los Angeles Memorial Collaseum instead of going back to Anaheim. They had a chance to write that wrong.
@@knowyourroleboulevard7119 What?
Still the greatest ever wrestlemania match immho. Sure, they wasn't the greatest of wrestlers, but that didn't matter to us. These two (plus Savage) were the most exciting wrestlers to watch as a kid in the late 80s n early 90s. It's hard to say in words just how huge this match was all over the world. Good times.
The crowd reactions added to the match
THAT ENTRANCE THEME!!! Combining those two was awesome, I wish it was longer!
So Warrior, Savage and Sid were all "accidentally" eliminated by Hogan at a Royal Rumble. Hmmmmm
Don't forget Tugboat, too.
Hogan's such a great friend, ain't he?
That's right, Brother!
I no Rite!?
He was always Hollywood.
Well Sid eliminated Hogan at Royal Rumble 92.
The most Golden match of wrestling history
Quite easily the best wrestling channel in terms of content and presentation. Love this channel
Hogan kicked out. He got ganked
Be safe!
I was a huge Hulk Hogan mark when I was a kid. I legitimately cried when Hogan lost. My parents were upset as they were fans as well. Good times.
Sorry to hear that.
Wrestling HAS to be about how it makes YOU feel. I was 7 when WM6 took place.. and believe me, it felt amazing!
I remember this split the class during recess 😂😂😂
Thank you for acknowledging the emotion over technicality. Nobody seems to bring that out in these bios and it’s about the excitement. It’s entertainment and not how many moves you have. Everyone has their own opinion but emotion wins for me over technical moves!
Thank you Kathy and what's up!
Kool Kumasi Thank you sir! I am well. Just finished my blog and saw your comment. Super cool, hope are are doing well yourself!
At the end of the match, Jesse Ventura actually said something positive about Hogan, saying: "I do believe Hulkamania will live forever!"
Yeah, and if he had won, Jesse would've said "That's it, I'm coming out of retirement to win this title!"
That’s a great moment, when even one of Hogan’s biggest detractors for years took a moment to give props.
I'm a professional musician. Whoever put together the Hogan and Warrior themes is a frickin GENIUS.
I think Edge and Christian were in the crowd at this Wrestlemania
The first WM I watched live on tv as a kid!! Always my favourite for that reason.
WM VI my favorite & first WrestleMania i ever watch !
Same
It was my first WM also
Your lucky my first was wm 9 and you know how that turned out lol
Warrior was always my hero as a kid and i still love that character to this day. He might not of had the technical ability in the ring, but he got your attention, and he was a superhero to any kid in the 80's and 90's. R.i.p jim warrior hellwig
Warrior was over on another level im glad he beat Hogans lame ass with the same style too...warrior only had like 3 moves lmao
Down the the best era in wrestling history was from 96-03 BY FAR
WTF are you saying? He had at least... 4 moves.
Uhm, never mind.
Down the early 90s wrestling was ass tf you mean?
Keep America Great nah ruthless aggression era was pretty good
Can't wait.
One of my fav all time matches. Remember watching it live and going in thinking it would end somehow in a DQ. So surprised when Warrior won it clean.
Two of the biggest names in wrestling ever. Both fan favourites. I will always remember this match as the biggest event ever in pro wrestling.
Pin me clean? No problem brother, you'll get your 3 count.
*kicks out at 3.00000000000001*
Pin me clean? No problem brother, were going to Canada.
The rock pinned him clean in Cananda too @ Wrestlemania 18
well so what? He beat him, if you beat someone that looks strong, guess what, that makes you look stronger. If he just beat Hogan down to a pulp, then was Hogan really any good, then what does that say about beating him? Not really a big accomplishment to beat a bum or someone that's past his prime.
That was an awesome build up, short sweet and memorable
Dude you have best channel. I relive my youth every time.. Thank you
I heard in an interview, which I don’t remember where I saw it but Hogan had said that he wanted to turn heel after the match which is probably why he did what he did in the match. Of course it didn’t happen because Vinny Mac didn’t want him too.
I was a Hulkamaniac, it killed me as a kid when he lost to Warrior lol
Me too
Sting vs The Ultimate Warrior would have been a good match former tag team partners both solo careers started taking off at the same time in different companies
it's so ridiculous that WCW never even attempted to do that when Warrior went there
@@johnnyskinwalker4095 Bischoff probably didn't even know they used to be a team.
@@unclelloyd you're right lol
Ultimate Warrior was my favorite wrestler of all time as a kid. I loved the guy.
Hell yeah!!!!
I remember watching this whole angle go down, and I really loved it. We ordered the PPV and when Warrior pinned Hogan, I marked out big time.
I still call that 1st face-to-face at the RR " The day the earth stood still "
Hogan tried to kick out after the 3 count because he only got pinned by a quick splash he wasn't badly hurt by the move so he tried to kick out but was too late...it will look too fake if he laid there pretending to be hurt from a bloody splash
Warriors plane promo on Hogan was his best promo ever ...
Back when wrestling was the best show around crowd reaction was amazing in those days with proper superstars, today's stuff is so lame
That intro mashup song was one of your better ones for sure! @WrestlingBios
I always look forward to the upload great job my boy 🙌🏾
Earl didnt botch it he didn't know Hogan was gonna hog the spotlight for sympathy
One of the best you have made, the last 5 minutes or so is fantastic.
I would have like to have seen the acknowledgment that Warrior too slammed Andre
The video wasn't about the Warrior
Love your commentary on all of this! Took me back, perfect channel
At the time I was surprised that the Chumpster lost clean. Great vid as always. Can you do a vid about my favorite Randy Savage and the storyline he had with the warrior.
I’ll be on the next spaceship to parts unknoooowwwnnnnn!!! JYD face was priceless while Warrior cut that promo after he beat hogan
Such a great channel. Dont change a thing.
Love this channel, very professional and researched! Keep it up!
4:19 Trump in the front row at Wrestlemania
Governor Chris Christie behind him?
@1-800-Wavy
It's a good observation
#facts
This channel is just good, no other way to describe it. Been here since day one and it's only gotten better.
Say what you want about the actual wrestling in the match, but you cannot say this isn't a classic. 5 star match in my opinion.
Your videos are absolutely tremendous, what a breath of fresh of air before going to sleep or just in general, I love them, your so creative!
Born in 1974. You described my journey from little hulkamaniac to a Warrior perfectly. That is exactly how it was, transitioning to the cooler wilder Warrior from taking my vitamins. Thanks for the great content.
Warrior had a loud pop when he won
The mashup of Hulk's music and Warrior's music is dope
Do the story of Hulk Hogan’s wwe return from 2002-2003
I love when Hogan out Triple Hed Triple H and beat him for the undisputed championship
