      @AAAnderson055 well it was good for a minute but hogan's popularity was still on the decline and completely killed hitman's credibilty to me at the time. I was beginning to accept him as champ and for hogan to this without putting over bret either was such a wasted opportunity.

Two wrestlers in the ring fighting to win. He was believable from his holds to his punches also his selling. But yes as you have said we watched him move up the card gradually and having the best performances so he earned it and a lot of us were ready! I know I was🤘

    • @mrsain19
      @mrsain19 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I recall being told by one of the booking agents that it was done purposely. As if to say Savage was so used to going for the cover after the big elbow that the lapse in judgement cost him the Rumble match. Ok explanation but I would have probably rathered a thrust kick from Yoko to send Savage to the outside.

    • @mrsain19
      @mrsain19 4 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @Alex Kanyima yea I didnt like it. But in a way it added to the instability and unstable aura of the macho man. He also eliminated himself in the 92 rumble when jake came out. He got his hands on jake, eliminated him. And proceeded to jump over the top rope to attack him some more.
      But they put him back in the match and acted as if it didnt happen. That just IS....The Madness.
      And he totally skipped his 18 spot in another planned "botch" in the 91 rumble, running from an irate and out of control ultimate warrior fresh off of a title loss due to savage.
      Even the 89 and 90 rumbles, savage was fun in. He had already established some precedent for the unexpected before the 93 rumble.

    1993 was supposed to be the Hitman's year, with him being pushed to the moon perhaps way too fast.. he was originally supposed to face Randy Savage at the Royal Rumble followed by the Ultimate Warrior at WrestleMania and last but not least Hogan at SummerSlam, with Bret beating all three 80s icons cleanly.. That would had propelled him into 1994 as the new megastar of the WWF

    • @andrewfrancis6094

      Bret was never a megastar. Even if Hogan and savage jobbed him, he would have never gotten big. Bret hart was a mid card talent. He ne ver deserved to be a long time world champion.
      Bret hart being the world champion devalued the world title. Bret hart never drew money for WWF.
      Hogan didn't become a megastar by beating Bruno and Bob backlund. He got big because he was an attraction. He was cool, had a great look and knew how to work a match.

    I personally don't think that Hogan winning the Wwe title can really be just Hogan political backstage shenanigans
    More than likely it was the fact that Vince didn't have faith in Brett which was a shame but to be fair Brett wasn't the draw that Hulk hogan had been in his heyday.
    So you can't really fault Vince for trying to go back to what made the Wwe/Wwf a multinational company.
    just a shame that it was at the expense of someone with the talent of Brett.
    Pretty much what still happens to this day with wrestlers like Rusev,Dolph Ziggler Ect never getting a decent push with stars like Randy orton always being on top.
    Sure a lot of it comes down to selfishness with olders wrestlers not wanting to drop down the card to let the new up and coming stars shine which is a shame as with any other sport the younger stars are the future but hardly get enough of a push to get experience to carry the company. As one day stars like Randy Orton will be too old to perform anymore and who's going to carry the proverbial torch.
    Time the top stars started passing the torch on.

    Thank you for acknowledging that Vince put the belt on Hulk. Lots of smark Bret Hart fans give Hogan a lot of hate for this decision but it wasn't Hogan's to make. Ultimately the decision failed but with business sagging it's not surprising Vince thought it worth the gamble to try again with his highest grossing star of the past.

    I agree with everything said in the video, well towards the end of the video. I think it was just meant to be a "feel good moment" for the end of Mania IX, Vince probably wanted to wait and save Bret's big win for Mania X, then again there was the whole Luger project will sadly failed, in any case, Vince probably was going to definitely have a babyface come out on top cleanly at Mania X which is what happened. As "Wrestling Bios" said, there was no long terms plans, I think if Hogan would have done business the right place and "passed the torch" to Hart at the Summer Slam that year, then maybe it would have been worth it. Hart and Hogan could have had a great feud, Hart could have claimed that Hogan stole his spotlight and he was coming for his belt, etc. and they could have put Yoko in a feud with Luger as the co-main event of Summer Slam 93....

    So instead of being in the Main Event at SummerSlam 93 vs Hulk Hogan, Bret Hart got moved to a mid-card match against Doink the Clown and then Jerry Lawler. Then at the 1993 Survivor Series, he's in the second match of the night. In other words, Vince had no faith in Bret Hart's drawing power. And then look at his second title run. First defense at the KOTR, was a mid-card match against Diesel. Second major defense at SummerSlam 94, was a steel cage match vs Owen, that played as the undercard to the Undertaker vs Undertaker Main Event. His title defense at the Survivor Series was a mid-card match vs Bob Backlund, as the Undertaker vs Yokozuna Casket match was the Main Event. Vince had no faith in Bret Hart's drawing power

    The loser in this whole deal was Bret. Although Yoko dropped the strap immediately back to hogan, He got to win it back from Hogan two months later and then had a nine month run with the belt. Bret basically lost a year with the title when he was the clear number one guy in the company.
