"Change your blade often"
Me an ork player : blade 1y/o still cutting so still usefull!
Salamanders don't get enough love, and because they are all craftsmen they like to accent and customize their armor which can be really fun.
Ikr?
would love to see his take, and the elbow pads really gave me an idea for salamanders,
plus, I still cant decide if I want to give my salamanders a classic white veteran helmet, black one, or just leave it typical green
Salamanders Infernus all the way!
Adrax leads the way.
i agree
Salamanders aye! I've been doing mine with black pauldrons with a golden trim and really liking it!
Ultramarines have the whole space Rome thing going on. That alone should put them up there with the coolest of space marines.
The actual art does them alot more justice than the box art does.
They just need a shiny new upgrade kit, like the new Dark Angels one.
They should more "Rome" thingies. They add it on the Characters or Upgrade Ultramarine pack. But since Primaris (Whatever) are more a general purpose ... I understand they don't put any decoration.
That's kind of my issue with them visually. Almost none of the models *do* the Roman thing. They're just... Dudes. The Most Generic Marine Possible. Like you say, an upgrade kit to give them the laurel wreaths, maybe some decorative cloth like the BT have but instead worn like a toga, maybe some Greco-Roman mythological imagery to "rome-ify" them, etc. would go a long way to giving the actual models a distinct visual identity and could be really cool.
@@RyanEdwardsVA I find that the main problem it's that you get Primaris Intercessors painted as Ultramarines but they are "multi" purpose, you can paint then as Ultramarines or Dark Angels. I would love to see a more roman look marines but I understand that those marines are for all chapters like Black Templars, Dark Angels, Blood Angels...
They HAD roman things
@@RyanEdwardsVA Yep they live up to their name! They are the ULTRA-marines the ultimate default marines so they don't lean too hard into their Roman theme because the have to stay default. Every other chapter is compared to how different to the Ultramarines they are.
boring is in the eye of the beholder i guess...i really like Ultramarines
90s Ultramarines were cool as hell and the Marvel comics about the Ultramarines are great too.
They are really cool in the Horus heresy books, get the most clone wars vibe from them lol
I think they look neat especially if the get their added Roman bits but they suffer from being THE basic space marine look. Even when they aren’t really generic they become it by way of marketing
@@Jan_Iedemathis. Ultramarines In theory are cool, but in practice GW does everything in their power to make them bland.
Agreed
My vote goes to Salamanders, get some small free hand flames going on!
Salamanders armors should be covered of dragon scales
“What do the red ones do they fight good” had me laughing😂😂
I and all other salamanders players demand a salamander video
this is also one of the best ultramarines i've seen on youtube!
You almost make me want to paint an Ultramarine. Almost. But you have succeeded in convincing me to upcycle all my soda cans!
I love that What if idea.
Itd be awesome to see you paint a salamander with some neat conversions like this.
Terrific video all in all, love to see it :)
I play Ultramarines because my kids think it's cool when 'my guys' are in the promo video each year. Totally worth it.
I would love to see your take on a Deathwing terminator.
He keeps teasing that council of the death lord box and it’s going to give me an aneurysm 😂
This all distracts from making new Black Templars also when are you starting your Death Guard army?
Also the dark eldar and tyranids lol
I'd love to see some Salamanders! All the flamery goodness
Either Salamanders or Iron hands, they're the most fun to paint and have a lot of interesting things to create for bits.
I actually disagree on ultramarines being the least customizable with bits and stuff as i think Imperial Fists are way less customized with ultramarines being able to push the roman aesthetic further than the default
They share their style with imperial fists, only symbols change
@@averageeughenjoyer6429 I feel fists aren't as roman, they are just as roman as anything in the imperium
Ultramarines go way harder into the roman stuff
@@AriSolMorningstar they used to in the same era as imperial fists did
would love to see a salamander done, i find a lot of people just paint a marine neon green and call it a day, would love to see one covered in tools and dragon scale cloaks all done by a professional
Looks great! Would love to see a badass Salamander
Eons: " everything you love is lame .
Also Eons: "my favourites are the episode 1 droids and Gungans .they're the coolest"
Theres this wonderful art by John Blanche in black and white, Ultramarines vs orks.
You can really tell that the Ultramarines in that drawing are individuals. There's a terminator with hazard stripes and hotrod flames on his gun, a marine in the foreground with a gorgon/medusa head, painted on his pauldron, while wearing a leapard skin as a cape. Several of the marines have checkerboard patterns for their shoulder trim. It looks great - and makes the Ultramarines just as decked out and drippy as any other chapter
Dark Kraken are a really cool Successor chapter of the Salamanders, they come from an ocean planet and do all of their training underwater. You don't see a lot of depictions of underwater combat in 40k, so I think you could do A LOT of unique stuff with them, especially going into that deep sea aspect by painting Heavy intercessors, their gravis armor would be perfect for deep sea combat.
Those soda can and green stuff purity seals are **Chef's Kiss**
Ultramarines have one great thing about them, logistics
Tempted to do a brown and yellow UPS successor chapter.
The Dark Imperium books shed some light on just how much more organised Ultramar is compared to the rest of the Imperium.
The motherfuckers have healthcare.
I think a salamander would be pretty fun to try. All the fire details and scorch marks could be a fun contrast to this video's frozen snow theme.
Ultramarines are my main army and one of my favorite parts is giving them a little more personality. Adding custom bitz, decals, etc. I really enjoyed seeing your take on an Ultramarine. Very nice Jay 👍👌
Would love to see Blood Ravens! It's where my love for WH40k started
Would love to see Salamanders next! Or maybe the Tome Keepers
Would love to see a salamander!
Considering my bois having been having a resurgence in popularity of late, let's see if the Raptors can get some love!
It looks like your collection needs more of the burny boys in green!
Everyone in second place hates the winner🤷🏼♂️
Very cool. I love that double stripe on the shoulders! I will need to work with that somewhere.
Love to see you do some Salamanders. They don't get enough love, and would totally be my Marine Chapter of choice!
Gotta admit that was me.
"Ultramarines, that cool. THE RED ONES FIGHT GOOD?!"
Jay, I love the paint job on the terrain... fantastic color scheme and execution!
Would be awesome to see you're take on the salamanders!
It’s insane how much better a model looks after a bit of highlighting.
I would LOVE to see your take on the Firedrakes of Nocturne, aka the Salamanders! Hot rod flames and warm green!
I hadn't run into anyone painting a double lined pauldron before. It looks so right; one part decoration, one part company signifier. I was considering making my own Primaris chapter that was mostly codex compliant but when it came to the company colors on the trim my brain screamed at me "but then they'll look like different armies" This second line is a great compromise. Thank you so much.
Titus got demoted, he's a Lieutenant now.
Great ideas! Haven’t seen anyone do purity seals and round shields before. Thank you!
What a great Ultramarine.
Would really love to see your take on the Salamanders.
Looks good, Jay! Your videos are always fun.
Nice Video, but as an Ultramarine Player I have to inform you that the white shoulder trim on an Tactical Marine is in violation of the codex astartes. Joking aside, I love my Ultramarines, but as with all marines it is important to add little details to make them somewhat unique.
Those purity seals are genius - Thanks for sharing that!
I like the colored elbow pads and extra pauldron ring accents! The custom shield also looks great. I'll have to implement those into my own chapters!
Thanks a lot your video really gave me some ideas for my first assault intercessors ! I painted some hasard stripes on the chainswords, a lot of white writings on their armors, a gold outside and white inside double shoulder trim and also added the little Ultramarine symbol on their forehead, very tiny but I was very impressed by your Templars assault intercessors and their symbol on their faces and I had to try, the result is pretty cool ! 😆
Videos like this that make me love this channel.
Just got back into the hobby and damn I can't get enough of Eons videos!
Cool video! Sanding the pop can is a good call
Hey Jay, do you like energy drinks?
Jay probably: I really really really like them, yes. And here’s my favorite ones ranked from Cadian trooper to Primarch in this week’s energy drink showdown. And ya know where else I really really really like? That’s right! Our Patreon!
Jk nothing but love for ya
What a beautiful Alpha Legion marine you got there!
Salamanders next please.
Most people’s explanation of the Ultras. “Imagine ancient Romans… but they’re all Boy Scouts”
I'd love to see you experimentim and give exmaples of what one could invent as a completely "non canon" space marine army.
Like Steampunk Spacemarines, Aztec Spacemarines, Maori Spacemarines etc...
I'm a big Blood Angels man myself, but I also love Emperor's Children as my traitor legion, right now I'm planning a Unit of Assault Intercessors painted as one of each of the main chapters plus Black Templars, as well as Legionaries painted as the Traitor Legions plus a Red Corsair as the 10th model
Really like the white accents, I've been painting Emperor's Spears because I like blue but didn't want to go Ultramarine, I might have to try giving them some white elbows too.
Ultramarines are my absolute favourite ever since I read the Horus Heresy books. They are truly the perfect warriors the space marines meant to be, unlike most of their brother legions.
Best way to dispose of unwanted old blades? Awesome video!
2:02 I find it’s when you introduce *constraints.* A good example might be 🤔 Write an Essay on Anything, verses Write an Essay about the Best Building Materials. You tell me ‘Anything’ it becomes Infinite, I’ll winde up fence sitting foreverrr.
I would love to see you try to paint the Necropolis Hawks, their color scheme literally screams "Use us for a Kill Team squad!"
These are absolutely incredible I love the uniqueness you get and the unique materials! So imaginative I need to do this. Please do Dark Angels 🙏
I recently painted 1250pts in Ultramarines because I wanted to paint blue. I don't know why, but out of all the chapter colors, BLUE, always hits me right when I paint it. I guess that's why I also paint Deathskull (Lootas) Orks. :)
You could paint one for each of the 18 original legions. Those are some of my favorite painting videos.
Nice work as always. It would be interesting to see your take on a Space Wolves or Salamanders Intercesor.
I'd love to see maybe a bumper episode with the dark angels schemes, nice crispy bone, moody green with bright highlights and maybe some wildcard scheme on an infiltrator or something so you can avoid doing black for ravenwing. Dark angels normie marines don't have trim on their shoulders so I'm sure you could splash all sorts of colour on there to make them more visually interesting
He somehow made an Ultramarine look cool. Wizard Jay can truly do anything.
I have painted hundreds of ultramarines.. That model is a perfect representation.
The inner gold trim really looks good
I'd love to see your take on the Minotaurs. An entire legion sized chapter of Doom Guys, who rarely get mentioned in the lore because despite how metal they are, they're Marry Sues who would just solve every problem through enough overwhelming force to make the sons of Ultramar blush.
Minotaurs are my favorite chapter regardless, they're overpowered spartan warriors who couldn't care less about the Codex or Inquisition's disagreements with their methods. They'll use any means to get stronger, so they can be the strongest warriors in the galaxy. Falling to Chaos would only slow them down, it's their way or the highway.
They live to fight on their own terms. Nobody, not the Imperium, nor khorne can command them. All you can do is inform them where the best fights are.
Love what you’ve done with the Ultramarine 🤠👍 would love to see a Raven Guard infiltrator as spec opps as possible
Gunpla Builder here. Suggestion on applying decals you could try. Common practice in our sphere (at least from all the tutorials I see online and the process I follow) is to use a q-tip, damp on one side to slide the decal off the paper and push it into place (tweezers also work really well as long as the decal doesn't tear) and then use the dry end of the q-tip and firmly roll it across the decal to absorb the water and get the air out from underneath it. Besides the occasional decal tearing its worked really well from me and I find it doesn't use a lot of force or effort.
I enjoyed painting the one of the getting started book, I enjoyed painting the unit from the recruit edition, I had blood angels as a teenager 😂 I do want to get some blood for nostalgia
I recently painted up a bringers of judgement in white and gold armor and its honostly one of my favorite colorscheme. Id love to see your take on it
Could you make a 7th company ultramarine in this style? I feel like the purple trim next to the yellow / gold bits would look awesome.
You should show the Lamenters some love. They need it!
Lots of good tip to take from, I'm using the little shield one for my flesh tearers just go to carve a saw teeth on the circle.
Sons of Medusa!!! Excellent color scheme!!!!
As much as I would love to see you add a Blood Angel to your collection, I agree with some of the other comments, a Salamander would be really cool with reptile skin and other features.
Love your videos Jay... you asked a question there at the end, I would love to see you do Blood Angels. That's my favorite faction. Mephiston, Sanguinius in particular along with some guards. Quite possibly some dreadnoughts too. 😁
I'd like to see a really grim dark iron hand if your painting more marines
I would love to see all three "wings" of the Dark Angels done by you
"The Ultramarines are really lame!" aaaaaand cut, perfect video there worthy of an award or two
Howling Griffons - make it happen Jay!
Thats a nice quick way of jazzing up the marines without thousands of £/$ of other kits.
Other chapters? Dark Angels always gets my vote
Coolest mug ive ever seen btw
Ultramarines actually have a leg up over most other compliant chapters simply by the amount of named characters they have received. They have a lot of options for who to field.
Actually I think the Chapter with the toughest appeal is White Scars. They are really cool lore-wise, but they only have a single named character in their roster and their white armor is very hard to deal with for a new player. You did an admirable job showing how to do it well though. But at least their named character is plastic.
And since you asked, I will request that you tackle the Salamanders next. They are my Space Marine Legion and you haven't done one yet.
One of my first resin prints was an awesome Ultramarines themed Leviathan Dreadnought. Its in clear resin and I don't really do Ultramarines, so I never painted it, just kept it as an example of what I could do in one piece relatively easy until a coworker dropped it. I ended up gluing it and shelving him. Finally primed him and holy shit was I being heretical. I think I'm going to take my time and put him in a diorama, because the embossed details deserve it.
I like the ultramarines because boltgun got me into the series so I picture them all being Malum Caedo
Easy to forget that the Ultrasmurfs weren't always the poster boys of 40k...
But they got one of the coolest primarchs at the very least. Rowboat gorillaman is such a cool character in world filled with cool characters
I know you said "Colours other than black power armour" but id love to see you go wild on an Iron Hand. Really make him look like the mechanical monstrosity marine they are treated as.
Red Scorpions would be cool to see next
Ill have to try something similar for my BA.
4:32 ah yes, the Romans known for their big recta..round shields of course
To be fair, Rome wasn’t the same during all it’s years
I love the reciclyng tips
yay, ultramarines. My first army (finished it yesterday) of 20 .
Thank you for properly referring to the shield bit as a besagew and NOT as a 'tilting shield'!
I gotta say that using soda cans for the cloth was a really good idea!
I don’t really know about that. I like the concept but imo it just comes off as super unrealistic and looks bad on the model.
Id love to see a Crimson Fist styled like that famous rouge trader image where that one dude is just waving around an ork head
The novels are where the ultramarines have substance.
Pretty sure romans actually used more rectangular shields than round. Love your kitbashes though, always great to watch
