Ikr? would love to see his take, and the elbow pads really gave me an idea for salamanders, plus, I still cant decide if I want to give my salamanders a classic white veteran helmet, black one, or just leave it typical green
Ultramarines have the whole space Rome thing going on. That alone should put them up there with the coolest of space marines. The actual art does them alot more justice than the box art does. They just need a shiny new upgrade kit, like the new Dark Angels one.
They should more "Rome" thingies. They add it on the Characters or Upgrade Ultramarine pack. But since Primaris (Whatever) are more a general purpose ... I understand they don't put any decoration.
That's kind of my issue with them visually. Almost none of the models *do* the Roman thing. They're just... Dudes. The Most Generic Marine Possible. Like you say, an upgrade kit to give them the laurel wreaths, maybe some decorative cloth like the BT have but instead worn like a toga, maybe some Greco-Roman mythological imagery to "rome-ify" them, etc. would go a long way to giving the actual models a distinct visual identity and could be really cool.
@@RyanEdwardsVA I find that the main problem it's that you get Primaris Intercessors painted as Ultramarines but they are "multi" purpose, you can paint then as Ultramarines or Dark Angels. I would love to see a more roman look marines but I understand that those marines are for all chapters like Black Templars, Dark Angels, Blood Angels...
@@RyanEdwardsVA Yep they live up to their name! They are the ULTRA-marines the ultimate default marines so they don't lean too hard into their Roman theme because the have to stay default. Every other chapter is compared to how different to the Ultramarines they are.
I love that What if idea. Itd be awesome to see you paint a salamander with some neat conversions like this. Terrific video all in all, love to see it :)
would love to see a salamander done, i find a lot of people just paint a marine neon green and call it a day, would love to see one covered in tools and dragon scale cloaks all done by a professional
Dark Kraken are a really cool Successor chapter of the Salamanders, they come from an ocean planet and do all of their training underwater. You don't see a lot of depictions of underwater combat in 40k, so I think you could do A LOT of unique stuff with them, especially going into that deep sea aspect by painting Heavy intercessors, their gravis armor would be perfect for deep sea combat.
Theres this wonderful art by John Blanche in black and white, Ultramarines vs orks. You can really tell that the Ultramarines in that drawing are individuals. There's a terminator with hazard stripes and hotrod flames on his gun, a marine in the foreground with a gorgon/medusa head, painted on his pauldron, while wearing a leapard skin as a cape. Several of the marines have checkerboard patterns for their shoulder trim. It looks great - and makes the Ultramarines just as decked out and drippy as any other chapter
Ultramarines are my main army and one of my favorite parts is giving them a little more personality. Adding custom bitz, decals, etc. I really enjoyed seeing your take on an Ultramarine. Very nice Jay 👍👌
Thank you so much for the tip on using soda can walls. I always have energy drink cans so I sanded one down and now using the sheets for purity seals and tabards.
Very cool. I love that double stripe on the shoulders! I will need to work with that somewhere. Love to see you do some Salamanders. They don't get enough love, and would totally be my Marine Chapter of choice!
I think they look neat especially if the get their added Roman bits but they suffer from being THE basic space marine look. Even when they aren’t really generic they become it by way of marketing
Hey Jay, do you like energy drinks? Jay probably: I really really really like them, yes. And here’s my favorite ones ranked from Cadian trooper to Primarch in this week’s energy drink showdown. And ya know where else I really really really like? That’s right! Our Patreon! Jk nothing but love for ya
About a week ago, I built some space marines with the intention of making them imperial fists, but I got really nervous after the first one came out really bad with the yellow, so I painted up the next one as an ultramarine, and I'm kinda hooked. They're actually really fun to paint, and use some of my favourite colours. I can see why they're so basic, because it's the most fun I've ever had painting a mini
I think an Iron Hand would be a great addition. If you get the Iron Hands upgrade sprue too you can get some great bits for your Black Templars as well.
I actually disagree on ultramarines being the least customizable with bits and stuff as i think Imperial Fists are way less customized with ultramarines being able to push the roman aesthetic further than the default
@@averageeughenjoyer6429 I feel fists aren't as roman, they are just as roman as anything in the imperium Ultramarines go way harder into the roman stuff
I'd love to see you experimentim and give exmaples of what one could invent as a completely "non canon" space marine army. Like Steampunk Spacemarines, Aztec Spacemarines, Maori Spacemarines etc...
I hadn't run into anyone painting a double lined pauldron before. It looks so right; one part decoration, one part company signifier. I was considering making my own Primaris chapter that was mostly codex compliant but when it came to the company colors on the trim my brain screamed at me "but then they'll look like different armies" This second line is a great compromise. Thank you so much.
Gunpla Builder here. Suggestion on applying decals you could try. Common practice in our sphere (at least from all the tutorials I see online and the process I follow) is to use a q-tip, damp on one side to slide the decal off the paper and push it into place (tweezers also work really well as long as the decal doesn't tear) and then use the dry end of the q-tip and firmly roll it across the decal to absorb the water and get the air out from underneath it. Besides the occasional decal tearing its worked really well from me and I find it doesn't use a lot of force or effort.
The Dark Imperium books shed some light on just how much more organised Ultramar is compared to the rest of the Imperium. The motherfuckers have healthcare.
Really like the white accents, I've been painting Emperor's Spears because I like blue but didn't want to go Ultramarine, I might have to try giving them some white elbows too.
2:02 I find it’s when you introduce *constraints.* A good example might be 🤔 Write an Essay on Anything, verses Write an Essay about the Best Building Materials. You tell me ‘Anything’ it becomes Infinite, I’ll winde up fence sitting foreverrr.
I'm a big Blood Angels man myself, but I also love Emperor's Children as my traitor legion, right now I'm planning a Unit of Assault Intercessors painted as one of each of the main chapters plus Black Templars, as well as Legionaries painted as the Traitor Legions plus a Red Corsair as the 10th model
I recently painted 1250pts in Ultramarines because I wanted to paint blue. I don't know why, but out of all the chapter colors, BLUE, always hits me right when I paint it. I guess that's why I also paint Deathskull (Lootas) Orks. :)
great job, that round shield looked too large in the beginning but really good once painted :) Would like to see Space Wolves 13th Company next or Charcharodons!
To me, the blueberry boy scouts are the chapter that makes the most sense, like if there ever is a space marine chapter in real life, it would likely mirror the ultramarines pretty closely. No matter how hard you hit, or how fast you run, logistics wins wars more often than not. And I feel like an army of super soldiers would want to prioritise that as to minimise the chances of being caught without ammo, or to avoid casualties to things like disease or starvation
Thanks a lot your video really gave me some ideas for my first assault intercessors ! I painted some hasard stripes on the chainswords, a lot of white writings on their armors, a gold outside and white inside double shoulder trim and also added the little Ultramarine symbol on their forehead, very tiny but I was very impressed by your Templars assault intercessors and their symbol on their faces and I had to try, the result is pretty cool ! 😆
Love your videos Jay... you asked a question there at the end, I would love to see you do Blood Angels. That's my favorite faction. Mephiston, Sanguinius in particular along with some guards. Quite possibly some dreadnoughts too. 😁
As much as I would love to see you add a Blood Angel to your collection, I agree with some of the other comments, a Salamander would be really cool with reptile skin and other features.
With all their new support & kits recently, I'd love for you to do a one-off of my favourite chapter, the Dark Angels. You could even try a half-an-half scheme like with your centurions.
I'd personally like to see you make a Red Templar. I think they are a custom chapter, but I think they look really cool with their white armour, red tabards and Knights Templars-themes!
I'd love to see maybe a bumper episode with the dark angels schemes, nice crispy bone, moody green with bright highlights and maybe some wildcard scheme on an infiltrator or something so you can avoid doing black for ravenwing. Hey Jay, like the fresh take on the paint job and given me some pointers for when I get round to trying my hand again on my models but just have to point out and sorry if this is a bit of a lore nit pick but if your making him a Tyrannic war veteran should of done red inside shoulder trim to match the 3rd company and not gold from the 2nd company as the 3rd are the ones that was given that title. Also Macragge not a snowy planet but it does have a northen & southen pola continet that they have strongholds set up on where the main defence for Macragge was taken place during the first Tyrannic wars
I'd love to see your take on the Minotaurs. An entire legion sized chapter of Doom Guys, who rarely get mentioned in the lore because despite how metal they are, they're Marry Sues who would just solve every problem through enough overwhelming force to make the sons of Ultramar blush. Minotaurs are my favorite chapter regardless, they're overpowered spartan warriors who couldn't care less about the Codex or Inquisition's disagreements with their methods. They'll use any means to get stronger, so they can be the strongest warriors in the galaxy. Falling to Chaos would only slow them down, it's their way or the highway. They live to fight on their own terms. Nobody, not the Imperium, nor khorne can command them. All you can do is inform them where the best fights are.
Please do a White Scars video to make the white power armour really pop! I love both the grim dark white aesthetic and the super clean high contrast looks; maybe you could compare white armour painting styles?
