First Time 4WDING the Import PRADO! Testing In Toolangi Mud!

- We took the Import 70 Series Prado out for its first time 4WDing in Toolangi State Forest and it went surprisingly well! Apart from the few issues to begin with, the Landcruiser Prado KZJ78 handled these tracks with ease and was never in doubt of making it. The Yokohama Geolandar G003's definitely performed well and we are keen to see how these go in slipperier conditions and give you a full review.

happens to be the best prado ever produced
Dont need to touch the gearing, just need the torque converter lockup kit and Nomad valve body upgrade from Rocket at Wholesale Automatic Transmissions, then first gear will work like it would in a manual. 👌
I'd also add another trans cooler inline after the factory cooler too while you're at it.
This comment. Also anything from rocket is amazing
we love rocket rod and his big orto 79
@@jacksonstandley555 quite a nice guy over the phone too.
Had an issue when I did my valve body upgrade in my previous 4WD and was quite helpful.👌
I would still put diff reduction gears in it
@@TC-iz6xe you would only regear if you went from 29's to 35's.
29's to 33's it's not required.
Owned a 90 series auto previously and never needed to regear for off-road.
I have an 80 series now that's fine from 31s to 33s and I wouldn't even bother regearing as it's fine off-road.
i see upload, i watch. keep up the great work
Hey there guys. Another good video. I don't usually comment but I thought that I would this time around because I have a Prado myself. I own a 2001 petrol 3.4 5VZFE manual. Last of the 90's. Got it stock as. Chucked on a bullbar, winch & some Falken Wildpeak AT3 31's & went to the High Country to see what she could do. I was amazed at how capable she was even with stock height KYB's, no lockers & only 31's. Pick the right lines & they will get just about anywhere except for when clearance is absolutely everything. But I wouldn't even bother considering going bigger than 33's if I were to recommend anything to you. Welcome to the Prado family brother. You will love it. Especially when you lock her. Enjoy your adventures in her!
on my kzj78 I replaced my eHubs with manual locking ones. Also found out the hard way they were not working by getting stock on the beach first day I brought it home. The brushes in the hub go bad and then they don't lock.
you boys got this video edited and up real quick! saw you all yesterday on the road
A fresh set of G003's are great in the slippery stuff. Even one locker and she will be great. Looking forward to more content.
I love that you boys dont drive the tracks hard unless you have to. So much better for the track and for anyone that has a shit fourby like me🤣
@Livin 4x4, Those electronic free wheeling hubs are known for shitting out flatout, There's a guy here in NZ that manualises them so they can be actuated with a Allan key, Or the better fix is to replace hubs and stubs with LN106 hilux ones then you can fit normal Aisin free wheeling hubs on. If you fit normal free wheeling hubs to the prado hubs you have to run spacers and then they snap all the bolts flat out when your getting up it
AMV hubs go straight on. Don't think as good though. Have them in mine so far so good
@@lukemceniery1588 AVM hubs are shit, they're not waterproof and you'll eat bearings and stub axles like no tomorrow. Aisin are better but not perfect. The best mod is the "old blue" manualisation of the original electric hubs - the electric hubs are also stronger than aisins.
fantastic video guys. The 76 Prado did great!
It’s a KZJ78
Torque convertor lock-up kit before differential lock. Maybe Low range gears if available?
Love these things, basically a more economical 76 with matching diffs hahah
‘Matching diffs’ … only because it doesn’t have that lovely rumbling sound of a meaty V8 😆👍
@@4WheelingInNSW you mean the overpriced thong clapper
Definitely got potential. Thought the front would flex a bit better than it does. Diff locks and a working winch for sure.
Probybly has the front and rear swaybar in ist, they are verry stiff. Zero body roll on the road thoug.
When my wife had a prado it was a 120series, i called it the handbag, in refference to prada, it was a girls 4wd but it did the job, prados are underrated, they are like coldplay, you love them or you cant stand em 😆
She went alright buddy, you guys always having fun 🤣🤣😆
Twin locked and she will walk up a brick wall, great little rig!
i had a very similar thing happen with a stick that popped you throught the rails of my sliders and did both my sill and passo door.. moral, always get skid plats under your sliders
Awesome stuff mate keep it up
Change the Glowplugs in the engine as soon as possible, theres plenty of videos about kz gloplug tips breaking off
You can replace the electric brushes in the hub to fix it they just wear out
Nice 70 series Prado Adam. How's the car going? Seen you do a 3D scan at TCC, is a front bar coming out for this car anytime soon? I'm desperate to get one on my car.
Cheers
you can get a different ring gear from the states that make the gearing better and fix the speedo being out but im on 35s
I’m running mine on 32’s on the original 15 inch rims, the speedo is perfect and it hasn’t lost too much in the gearing for hills.
wicked ! good to see you guys back out on the tracks ! 🏞️📹🛻😎🤙
Beautiful truck
Got those Yokohamas on my Prado. Not bad they are.
Ahhh the Jap 76, sweet 👌👍🇯🇵
So good
I was surprised to see no rocksliders.
Up the 2wd Prado, quite the little mountain goat.
is that a LC 105!?
Now im kinda glad i didnt join ya’s 😂 the ol fully open 4runner wouldve made that day so much longer
Needs a torque converter lock up switch just need to remember to turn it off after the decent otherwise it will stall haha. Autos unreal for wheeling tho
I would highly recommend the front manual locking hubs
Reason it potentially was running away down hill might be a trans issue, definitely sort the oil issue, but would be worth inspecting the ecu for swollen/leaking capacitors as this can be a trans shifting issue for piece of mind.
Absolutely loving the prado man!
my boys always in shorts no matter the weather🤣
2wd impressive
Can anyone give me the location in toolangi of this track and 'the playground' please
yeah chopsticks fits lol
When you boys planning to come back to mt disappointment keen to go for a drive
I'm with Sam the new prado needs to be called chopsticks
What’s the track name?
this model doesnt have factory lockers?
No it's a taxi
Yeah my kzj78 has factory rear lockers
@@maxratzlaff8333 i wasnt asking if it was a taxi
@@lukejones4017 same, is yours the 3l one?
KZJ78 had optional rear locker, this one doesn't appear to be equipped.
Surely you'd call it the Pradog!
😂
Definitely let me know when you find a propper lift kit for it, most manufacturers only do them for the 70 and 73 KZJ and that means the rear springs are too soft. I have a KZJ77 and im running it all stock.
Raw 50mm lift from Ebay just over 800 dollars that is where I got mine for my 1994 Prado import. Fits great.
@@johnjackman7622 A long wheel base?
I have an ironman kit in mine it's class
@@lukemceniery1588 ironman here in Brisbane used my truck to do the R&D for the kzj78. They've got a ser set up with proper dampening and travel now. Had mine about a year and no dramas at all. I did put air bags in the back for towing the camper though.
@@nilz6432 Yes mate, mine is the same as the one in the video but black. I’ve done a hidden winch too an ARB cradle fitted right in behind the bumper and an Auto Locker from Lokka, and a lot more.
What Track/s is that?
It’s not a track, that’s still open anyway, it was part of an old one which was shut long ago when they put the pipe line in
Off Marginal road
@@phs84 Near the Top of Rockey?
Cave the door sill in on the first trip that's got to hurt
Reeeeeeeeet!
I'd call it the kizza cause 1kz haha kzza
I reckon the 90 series prado is more capable and better built to be honest
ha! how so? same engine and IFS
This prado is a rig I froth it ay
hey brother I've owned one of these for about 3 years. The front e locking hubs suck. I converted mine to manual. I have a few sets coming from Russia if you want to order a set from me. they are easy to install. just check my youtube channel
Why the fuck do people keep airing down to weird numbers. 16? Lol. Just do 15
14? Just do 15.
5,10,15,20,25
Just keep it simple
A tyre gauge has increments of 1psi dropping to 16psi is simple
yeah chopsticks it is
my old man had a stick come up through the passenger seat floor and stick into the seat lucky there was no passenger
4 door bundera pretty much, they have a lot of potential.
