Between this video and your streams, you have perhaps sold me on getting an N64 and Stadium 2. I am sort of doing the same thing on my current Gen 3 playthrough, completing XD and Colosseum as well as the battle frontier and the Pokédex. But I’ve always loved Gen 2, and being able to use Homebrew to take a team of Stadium champions from cartridge to modern Gens is so awesome.

@@svenbtb it’s not as difficult as you think. But there is satisfaction in beating Stadium 1 & 2 with one’s own Pokémon. Where a lot of the difficulty comes in those games is the AI spamming certain attacks. But if you understand GEN 1 & 2 Pokémon strengths and weaknesses going into Stadium, you should be fine, even with rentals -though it’s not as easy as custom, owned Pokémon.
Man pokemon is really something else, a thousand hours out of a single game that came out 20 years ago and you also are able to move the save file and make it compatible with the 3ds vc and move your pokemons to the most recent gen games, amazing.
This video literally saved hundreds of hours worth of gen 1 and 2 Pokémon being backed up on my computer because the cartridge save became corrupted shortly after from many years of playing. Thank you Tama!
Ya, that lines pretty blurred already. Its pretty much a "best guess" scenario. I still do trading in gen 7 (wonder trades mostly) and I keep an eye out for pokemon with like maxed stats or lv 100/99 or shinies. I figure at least when it comes to gen 7, most or at least a good number of those are hacked.
its rrrreally easy to hack Pokemon, especially if you're trading up from 3rd gen and you have a DS flash cart. you can just back up your save and put it on your PC and use a save editor, literally create a Pokemon with any stats and moves and all that, and then you can tick a box that makes the game believe it is a legal Pokemon, allowing you to trade it up to the new games. kinda lame, but using a save editor allowed me to get access to the mew event on my Japanese copy of emerald, so my mew is 100% legit.
I mean most legitimate way possible, prior to this method there was no way to legitimately do it. I mean I don't see why this would blur the line, it's literally the same data it's just being moved from one place to another via software.
I had a legit Mew from Toys R Us. Accidentally deleted the save. It would have been lost either way but damn. Finally got a legit one via the Pokeball plus.
I don't play pokemon anymore, but I love gens 2 and 1 A LOT and it's always neat seeing all the things i missed out on, and possibly learn ways that if I do ever get back into pokemon, play through PS1 & 2, and maybe even transfer them over to the new games, the resources are all here thanks to dedicated people like you Tama. You're doing great work and actually achieving a lot of the stuff we've thought about doing since we were younger. Thank you and congrats on all of this!

i like that u put out videos of practical things i actually will eventually do or indulge in i really was thinking about doing this and to see u can import save AND still do celebi event is godlike
When I saw the title of the video, I thought "she's going to backup the save, homebrew her 3ds, then do some kind of conversion for the save backed-up from the cart to work on the VC version, isn't she?". Well damn, I was right.

Your welcome I'm a cross gen fan. Also would have been the same for Charlie Chaplin I mean Mr. RIime cause of Mime Jr. Oh wait if Mime Jr. was in the original Gen 2 games weather his beta or final designs. However it is possible to have a Mr.Rime that says arrived from Johto well through breeding in HeartGold and SoulSilver.

You’re the first TH-camr I ever watched and I’m still watching you to this day, I’m so glad you exist 😭💖 these videos are definitely fun to watch during quarantine
Thanks for this Tama. I only started watching your channel recently, but you've been a huge inspiration to motivate me to start up a new pokemon journey in gen 2. I am a looooong way to reaching a maxed out save like yours, but it's reassuring to know that whatever I put into it can eventually be sustained through the power of modern technology!
The fact that this is possible makes me unbelievably happy, actually. I recently did a casual run of Silver and I thought it'd be a one and done thing, but now I know that with the power of technology, Tonka the Donphan can meme even more
This seems awfully complicated but hey, at least it's possible! This is cool. Fortunately I have no use for such things as my batteries on all my Gen 2 games died over a decade ago and I have a save file I cherish on my 3DS for Crystal so I'm already set.
Using the sav to dat converter you found, I was able to transfer my Pokemon Yellow virtual console save file to my computer to an emulator in order to modify it to better handle Missingno and then transfer it back. I used the Missingno to get a ton of master balls and full restores. Thank you!! 😍
Thank you Tama! I've wanted to know how to do this for so long especially since Gen 2 is my starting and favorite generation. My original team may be long gone but now I can be sure to prevent the same from happening to those who follow. Thank you so much for sharing the info!
"Technology is incredible!" I went through this whole journey not too long ago. :) I'm really attached to my Pokemon I raise in story playthroughs, so I love that stuff like this exists. I never knew there was a dumper! I have the flash cart in the video, but the dumper seems a lot more convenient.
I still wish I had my first swampert from my emerald game. I have started a new game a few times there... plus the battery died on it over a year ago. Gen 4 is my favorite so far just because I loved my p9kemon. I remember my swampert getting pokerus and me thinking that was a bad thing lol.
I like how you use the knife method of replacing batteries, I use that method too. Although I use CR2032 batteries instead of the ones that are normally used, Crystal usually uses a CR2025, but I've changed mine to a CR2032 one, for a longer life. :)
That is such an amazing process. If only I knew about this long before my Crystal/Yellow save data died. But still, the fact you did the impossible is such an amazing feat.
With programming there's always a way. Sure you can set up your own server. People that know how to do it aren't usually into pokémon, but sometimes, the universe gives us one of such wise people to save us all!
I'm just glad I have the same madness for my files in ruby and emerald catridge instead of the gen 2 games. I don't think I'd go to such lenghts otherwise. Seriously, you are a pokemon fanatic legend in the most positive way possible.
Really interesting video! Thanks for sharing, I had no idea this was possible. Such a fun concept, it was great to see how excited you were to experience the Celebi event for the first time. Congrats on having your save data transferred to the 3ds, now it won’t be wiped away in a few years 😭
This is amazing. Thank you so much for explaining and showing all of this. I'm so inspired. Wow. Also, what's the music that is playing around 4:25 onward? It's really calming and pretty.
We used to make fun of Nintendo for selling emulated versions of their games on the Virtual Console but it turned out to be a blessing in disguise, huh?
I consider myself a professional pokemon veteran, having completed the national dex many times since Gen 1 and obtained the 5-stars trainer card in many games. And I can say for sure that you are, by far, the most skilled and committed pokemon player I've seen, both personally and in the internet. The amount of passion and hard work you put in your games is trully outstanding. What I admire most on your videos is that, like me, you have a big passion for shinies like I have, especially the ones from Gen 2. I'd like to share a little secret with you. In Gen 2, if you breed any pokémon with Blue DItto, the odds of getting a shiny until the 150th egg are actually 100%, due to the way RNG works in the game. Using the Pokemon Stadium 2 exploit, you could get every shiny in the game legitimately, except the legendaries. Props to you!
Thank you so much for this I’ve obsessed about if this could be possible since the first time I saw a friend’s save file get wiped. Your somewhat recent review of this generation really made me want to replay the old cartridges and connect to Stadium 2 but it’s tough dealing with the loss of all that work. This video provides several clear evolving solutions to not only keep my Pokémon but upgrade the entire file to my 3DS. Thanks again. This is the most personal generation for us RPG enthusiasts. :))
I‘m so happy that you are uploading so much videos lately! I have watched your videos since I guess 2013? When I was 13/14. I am from Germany and my interest in Pokemon and especially in your videos made me improve my English so much more. Thank you so much for all the videos !❤️
Great video! But I would suggest lowering the volume of the background music for the next one. I could hear you just fine, but the music was a bit distracting.
This video is amazing! I really wish I had known about even the most basic thing like changing the battery. My original Silver playthrough is gone! I had every single Pokémon except for Suicine. And I was so close to getting him. Maybe I'll play through Silver on cartridge again someday knowing this is all possible.
for anyone looking for a modern gameboy cart dumper/save dumper, the submodule GB01 is definitely the way to go! It lets you dump roms and backup saves on your PC through USB-C, works with GB, GBC, and GBA games, lets you dump saves BACK onto a cart (so if you're swapping save batterys and dont wanna lose your save, you can dump it back on the cart after!) and the software overall is really easy to use. It runs around the same cost as the cart dumper shown in the video (around $54), with shipping only being an additional $9. So if you're planning on replicating this, definitely consider the submodule! submodule.co/
@@ArtisChronicles The USB-C is on the board end only, and the cable it comes with is USB-C to USB-A (A is the port you generally have on your laptop, with the exception of some newer macbooks and certain windows laptops)
I got into pokemon at gen 3 so never had the problem of batteries running out and restarting everything but seeing there’s a way for other people to hopefully get to keep pokemon on older cartridges makes me so happy
THIS is exactly what I’ve wanted! I mod gameboys for a hobby so my Pokémon playthroughs on those are really far, but I stopped playing on those to play on the virtual console to bring them with me
this video singlehandedly inspired me to purchase a gameboy color and crystal cart so i could do a thorough playthrough of it like tama did. ^_^ same with kirby tilt n tumble. such lovely games. really glad my friend recommended me this great channel
I seriously don't know a game were you require such a huge effort to play like the Pokemon games. For example, the event Pokemons are almost impossible to get these days, specially a shiny one. Imagine a shiny Celebi? Or to get a Mew? People don't like to trade these Pokemon for being so rare and etc... Let's not mention the trade evolutions because if you're not lucky to have a friend who play these games you have a chance of having your Pokemon stolen. Look at the amount of effort that Tama Hiroka made to play the old generation games, you deserve a gold medal for this tbh.
I'm so jealous, My silver version wiped in 2012. much too soon, I wish it would have held on for awhile longer. I remember bawling for half an hour when I realized what had just happened. years worth of work just gone. I would give anything to be able to transfer that game today. Thanks for sharing, its really great to know this can even be done!
I remember seeing this video for the first time and wanting to desperately do what you did with your crystal save, after some research on my end I came across a piece of hardware called the gbxcart and it helped me do just what you did here :D My reason for saying this is because I'm so thankful you made this video because it inspired me to complete my dex in pkmn blue and even go for the trophies for gen2 that you get in stadium 1, as well as getting the Dodrio speed up in stadium 1 too. It was not easy doing everything but I now have my precious journey in gen1 forever saved on my 3DS
2:08 And Red, Green, Blue and Yellow, of course. Gen 1 is no different from Gen 2 in terms of how save data is stored. The battery keeps the save data alive on both generations of cartridges. I was very relieved to learn that this was not a problem with Gen 3 many years back, because my Ruby battery had died after some time. FRLG don't even use the clock system, thankfully, so there isn't even a battery in them.
1:04 If you can afford it and can find someone reliable, there is also a process to modify your Gen 1 and 2 cartridges with SRAM. I *highly* recommend this, as it will replace the need for a battery *entirely* and preserve your saves for decades to come. If you have an old cartridge and no way to back up your saves, you may want to attend to that soon. These cartridges are decades old and very few saves are still preserved as a result. If you don't act fast, you _will_ lose your saves. It is an inevitability that you should be concerned about if you have a very old save stored somewhere. Sadly, if you haven't even touched your old saves since way back when, they may already be gone.
Just dropping a comment here to just say thanks to Tammy for making a dream come true. Got a cartridge dumper and used it to get a Pokemon Yellow save from my childhood that had my first Pokemon ever on it and got all my Pokemon from that save and a bunch of Pokemon from my entire time playing Pokemon into Ultra Moon recently. There's just something really satisfying about seeing your first Pokemon ever with a ragtag team of other Pokemon that you've raised throughout the years defeating Team Rainbow Rocket. It's like Pokemon Avengers! :P
My friend group all revived our GSC games 10 years ago and held Stadium 2 tourneys consistently for a few years. A few of us still battle when we aren't spread across the country. Stadium 2 is a phenomenal game. With the help of an Everdrive, you can save RAM and reload it once you replace a battery, so we will never lose our saves and can still play on original hardware. But I like that people can figure out how to migrate it to a new console!
Omg... You're Tamashii! I have not seen your channel in yearsss, you change so much since I last saw your channel, at first I did not recognize you, but longer I watch some of the newer videos the more I realized you're Tamashii. Good to see you're still making videos, great job keep up with the great work.
This is eerily heartwarming. I'm so happy that you're able to carry them with you, at the same time that I'm a bit heartbroken about my save file being long gone, way before I was even able to try and perform something like this. However, I have a couple of teams still stored in my Pokémon Stadium and 2 cartridges. Maybe I can do something about that?
I’m so glad this is possible because I want to be able to play all the Pokémon games on their official console, do everything I can do in them but still have all the Pokémon with me

But yeah man I feel you, I don't want to spend $60 on a GB dumper and new batteries for my old Gen 2 cart, but at the same time, i would LOVE to finally play through Stadium 2 as an extended post-game since it's apparently near impossible to do it with rentals alone lol.
Can these pokemon transferred this way be uploaded to bank on the switch?
Man pokemon is really something else, a thousand hours out of a single game that came out 20 years ago and you also are able to move the save file and make it compatible with the 3ds vc and move your pokemons to the most recent gen games, amazing.
This video literally saved hundreds of hours worth of gen 1 and 2 Pokémon being backed up on my computer because the cartridge save became corrupted shortly after from many years of playing. Thank you Tama!
Really blurs the line for what is really a “legit” pokemon....I like it. Also yay for a handy “So You Want To Complete Crystal” guide
I remember doing this back when just rby were on the virtual console and figuring it out before there were any tutorials. Thanks for speading the helpful info to others!
Tama really said
“Pokémon Crystal: the extra festive version”
i like that u put out videos of practical things i actually will eventually do or indulge in i really was thinking about doing this and to see u can import save AND still do celebi event is godlike
Right? She makes such distinct, unique, useful content. Unlike some youtubers that just cash in on popular video ideas
this is actually so good though, I love that this is possible
if you somehow have an old file now you can have it... forever
When I saw the title of the video, I thought "she's going to backup the save, homebrew her 3ds, then do some kind of conversion for the save backed-up from the cart to work on the VC version, isn't she?".
Well damn, I was right.
Man I've been watching your content for so many years now and it's so refreshing to see how you're still making some unique and interesting content. It always keeps me coming back, keep up the good work Tama ^-^
Also some of your Pokemon u caught in that Crystal cartiage can evolve into they're Sinnoh evolutions.
Such as Gligar into Gliscor.
Same for the Alolan forms such as Pikachu into Alolan Raichu.
One for Galar.
Koffing into Galarian Weezing.
Your welcome I'm a cross gen fan.
Also would have been the same for Charlie Chaplin I mean Mr. RIime cause of Mime Jr. Oh wait if Mime Jr. was in the original Gen 2 games weather his beta or final designs.
However it is possible to have a Mr.Rime that says arrived from Johto well through breeding in HeartGold and SoulSilver.
for a Yellow player, evolving into Alolan Raichu would be a bittersweet decision....unless you could somehow get a Surfing Alolan Raichu, lol :D
Squirtle with zap cannon in gen 8, holy...
R A P I D S P I N G O L E M
And of course, w a t e r g u n N i d o k i n g
Rollout Rhydon and Zap Cannon Slowbro
Fissure Machamp with No guard is also technically possible if you transfer the Pokémon to a cart of Gen 3 instead, then send them up the normal way.
@@johnwest6690 generation 2 to 3 transfer is still impossible afaik
Technology is incredible!
You can already send your save files and pokemon through time!
😂😂😂😂😂😂 nice 👌
Just used this method to copy my crystal cartridge save into the VC version, collected the GS ball, moved the save back to cartridge, and now I'm soft resetting for Celebi on my gameboy color! Thanks for the awesome info! Always love the great content!
Very cool video Tama. I'm glad you were able to find a way to "immortalize" all the work you put in to your Crystal game.
OMG Tama, you really became a Pokemon Master. I'm loving your videos more and more. This new bridge opens a new way to Gen2 😭 so beautiful
I legit just bought a copy of Silver because a friend had told me this could be done, and now you’ve made this wonderful guide! Tyvm 😭😭😭
How can we get celebi? I have gold and crystal.
@@Hawkeyes2017 You would probably have to do the coin case glitch for Gold and Silver
Such a great video! Man gen 2 Pokémon was the first game I ever played so the nostalgia is hitting me rn 😭 I still have my DS console somewhere... seeing this video is kind of motivating me into playing now especially seeing how I can bring in my old team from back in the day!!
Good to see a new version of this kind of video. I remember Linkara had a much older version of this kind of walkthrough and its good to see it updated with new info.
This warms me knowing you are so dedicated to keeping your Pokémon with you
4:38 "I wondered if there was a way for my trainer to travel through time with Celebi..." We see what you did there.
This is the coolest thing ive seen! Hit me right in the nostalgia... I lost my Silver save from when I was a kid and I was heartbroken. Got my sub 😃
Pokémon Gold and Silver are my favorite games in the franchise! I’m very happy that this is a thing!
"Technology is incredible!"
I went through this whole journey not too long ago. :) I'm really attached to my Pokemon I raise in story playthroughs, so I love that stuff like this exists.
I never knew there was a dumper! I have the flash cart in the video, but the dumper seems a lot more convenient.
I actually wish I could use my typhlosion in current vgc.
This is beautiful. I wish there was a way we could also enjoy features that don't longer exist like the Dream World in Gen V.
Already seen this on Patreon, which I highly recommend joining, the discord is 10/10 😌
Really interesting video! Thanks for sharing, I had no idea this was possible. Such a fun concept, it was great to see how excited you were to experience the Celebi event for the first time. Congrats on having your save data transferred to the 3ds, now it won’t be wiped away in a few years 😭
I actually had no idea you *could* return Shuckie 😮 I guess I just always maxed out its friendship
holy it’s been years since i’ve watched you i remember watching poke tubers all the time when i was in my pokemon phase
This is amazing. Thank you so much for explaining and showing all of this. I'm so inspired. Wow. Also, what's the music that is playing around 4:25 onward? It's really calming and pretty.
delightful. finally a childhood tragedy has been corrected. im free
I’m keeping my Pokémon in Ultra Sun until Gamefreak allows all Pokémon to be in the main games. I ain’t paying Home.
Just backup your save with homebrew.
*_Nintendo wants to know your location._*

I don't have usb type c on my computer... So I hope that's not on the computer side of the usb.
@@ArtisChronicles The USB-C is on the board end only, and the cable it comes with is USB-C to USB-A (A is the port you generally have on your laptop, with the exception of some newer macbooks and certain windows laptops)
@@AnaIsmySegal that's actually good to know, works out perfectly for me that way.
Any chance those backed up save files work with pkhex?
I got into pokemon at gen 3 so never had the problem of batteries running out and restarting everything but seeing there’s a way for other people to hopefully get to keep pokemon on older cartridges makes me so happy
Same here but I started with 4 then went back to 3 after playing Black and White I think
damn i wish someone could do this for me and my crystal version!
THIS is exactly what I’ve wanted! I mod gameboys for a hobby so my Pokémon playthroughs on those are really far, but I stopped playing on those to play on the virtual console to bring them with me
tfw even the girl playing pkmn crystal in 2020 calls my current operating system ancient
this video singlehandedly inspired me to purchase a gameboy color and crystal cart so i could do a thorough playthrough of it like tama did. ^_^ same with kirby tilt n tumble. such lovely games. really glad my friend recommended me this great channel
OMG! your voice is like a voice artist
Not much into pokemon now, but this was a roller coaster!
We’re all thinking it and she straight up just does it! Love you tamashii!!
Such a cool video. Your pokemon crystal save file is extremely impressive
I bought an N64 and stadium 2 because of your gen 2 vids. Hella excited to get the full gen 2 experience.
It's oddly poetic that your journey in the world of pokemon is essentially timed, just as our lives are. Make the best of it I guess
So much more dedication to this game than anything I've ever done in my life. Amazing.
Wish I had known about this while I still had my old cartridges, at least my friends will live on in my heart...
Crystal being my favorite game this was a really awesome video! Thank you and you’ve earned a new subscriber today! :)
Bill: Hey I fixed the Time Capsule!
Tama: Ha that's cute
You have been very dormant I’m glad your back!
Incredible!!!! It never occurred to me that this could be possible, even with things like cart dumpers and home brew.
I’m so glad this is possible because I want to be able to play all the Pokémon games on their official console, do everything I can do in them but still have all the Pokémon with me
This is super rad, thanks for sharing! Glad you can further immortalise your amazing Crystal playthrough
Saves backups have been a godsend for years.
