    Glock barrels do not suck. I’m a huge fan of CZ and Wilson combat, but I would not make a statement that bold about a company that has proven its worth. Why has it been copied by so many? Because, Gatson got it right.
    It’s a combat weapon not a competition gun. Competition is for fun, and tacti-cool plinkers. The glock barrel is a tool.

      Glocks will fire in mud and sand. Wilson probably wouldn't.

    At 5 yards any difference you see between the barrels is down to you, not the barrels.
    Unless you have defective barrels or ammo, you should be able to put all rounds in the same hole. Even a tiny 1 inch, poor quality barrel will put rounds in the same hole at that distance, unless there's a real defect, anything other than that is a skill issue.
    You just can't do proper comparison between barrels/ammo, unless you do it from a controlled position. Any actual difference between barrels/ammo is dwarfed by the variance the shooter introduces.

    • @airsoftmechanic
      @airsoftmechanic  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      One thing to point out is that there’s more wobble on the OEM barrel. The new barrel stays locked in and doesn’t wobble. Something I never mentioned as I didn’t think it was that important.
      Another thing is I was in the middle of testing the barrels at longer distances, but my time at the range was up. Ended up just using what I got
      Lastly, may invest in some sort of rest for better testing in the future

    • @SomeCrypticName
      @SomeCrypticName 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@airsoftmechanic Well, a rest is a good idea, you can't really do a precision comparison without one, but the gap between this test and a bench/rest test is so huge, that you can literally do 10x better just by actually shooting precisely, not trying to shoot fast.
      I get groups like these at 27+ yards (25 meters, the usual bullseye competition I shoot), with almost any gun that I get to spend enough time with, even with tiny pocket guns like the Walther PPK, and even then I know that the imprecision is mostly down to my shooting, not the barrel/gun/trigger/sights/ammo/etc. (OK, pocket gun groups are a bit wider, but not a lot.)
      At 5-7 yards, for any decent gun, you need all bullets stacked on top of each other, otherwise it's obvious that the test is just testing how well the shooter can shoot, not the gun or any parts. Your group size scales linearly with distance, so if you're getting a 2.5 - 3 inch group at 5 yards, that would be 12.5 - 15 inches at 25 yards - basically useless for hitting anything, no sensible gun is that bad.
      Any decent gun will do a 2 - 2.5 inch group at 25 yards, if controlled perfectly. Expensive barrels & stuff will get it down to 1.5 inches, MAYBE 1.25 inches. (I gotta admit, I did pull these exact numbers out of thin air, but they are in the right ballpark.)
      The point is - this test simply does not say anything about the difference between the barrels. Just that you shot a bit better on the second mag.
      Not trying to sh!t on you or your shooting, just letting you know that this particular test is just bad, you have measured nothing. I know tone does not come well across internet comments, but I'm simply trying to be factual, not insulting, really. If you want to be a channel that people come to for gun part comparisons, then this is just not how you get there. Truly, just trying to be factual, and if you do a proper precision comparison, I'll be the first one to say good job and drop a like :)
      Hopefully, at least some part of that was useful.

    Can't say my oem barrel sucks but there is room for improvement. However changing anything you run the risk of sacrificing that oem glock reliability. I think a barrel is fine if you have a need to change it or you just want to. I would leave internals alone although im guilty of swapping stuff about and im a big p80 fan so ive tried lots of aftermarket internal glock parts. I would stay as oem as possible. Barrel, slide, return spring and guide rod, and a quality trigger shoe and saftey like the vickers version with oem trigger bar. Extended controls on everything. Love my glock so much its just a little boring after such a long time owning it.❤ Maybe multicam black cerakote this year. To spice it up a lil.

      @airsoftmechanic  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Glocks are great platforms for making custom builds. One awhile I'll go back and forth between my stock barrel and my Wilson Combat barrel. Now the parts I left stock for reliability purposes are the firing pin assembly, extractor, ejector, slide and frame.

  • @SlaterRecreational
    @SlaterRecreational 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Your firing cadence with the Wilson Combat was noticeably slower than the Glock OEM barrel. It’s easy to say you shot better with the WC but was it actually the barrel or yourself?

    • @airsoftmechanic
      @airsoftmechanic  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      While my firing cadence was noticeably slower, my aiming and grip stayed the same when I was testing the WC barrel. It was slower because I was only trying to see where the rounds were going on the target.

  • @davidmeyer6539
    @davidmeyer6539 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I'd refine your testing procedure if you're serious.
    1.) Test at a reasonable distance such as 25 yards, with a target that gives a good repeatable point of aim
    2.) At minimum shoot from a stable, supported position. Better to have a Ransom rest on a stable granite or concrete base, but not many of us have access
    3.) Get decent ammo like Atlanta Arms Elite
    4.) Use a red dot or even better a magnified optic
    5.) Take your time, make each shot count
    While the general conclusion that early Gen Glocks accuracy can be improved somewhat with a tight, well fitted aftermarket barrel, this test doesn't demonstrate that at all.
    The Gen 5 barrels are very good and I'd be surprised if you saw any improvement, provided the original barrel locks up well to begin with, as all of mine do.

    • @airsoftmechanic
      @airsoftmechanic  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Mine has some noticeable wobble when rattling it without the guide rod. The WC barrel has wobble but not as much as the OEM Gen5 barrel. And with the guide rod in, the OEM barrel has some slack moving around in the slide when the slide is forward, while the WC has little slack.
      It’s an improvement, and so the rest would be training. Though I’ll take this into consideration, except I’ll use a vice since that’s more accessible.

      Save your money get a faxon barrel for about $100. I have two wilson barrels both okay but at the end of the day 99% of shooters will not see an accuracy difference. Most will never be able to shoot better than a stock glock barrel can achieve. I have tested all in a ransom rest and while the point of impact will be slightly different group size is just about the same in 5 barrels tested.

    I not sure if was better, yeah that group seems little tighter but too little of difference, it’s still basically same performance. For the higher price of wilson combat id say not worth,”if” the main goal being accuracy. But id still give a try just if my goal is to simple replace the barrel with a not less reliable one. Some might ask why then?? I answer.. cuz i want longer barrel in the same slide but i hate having one part in the glock with different serial number. It sucks glock does that. Imagine in a situation this same gun might be looked at with scrutiny by some others

      @@airsoftmechanicYou can either listen to them, or go see for yourself. I can tell you without a doubt, Gen 5 is superior.
      Gen 3 and 4 just had reliability as its best feature. Its accuracy was ok at best. Gen 5 has both. I shoot a 10 inch plate at 25 yards for reference.

    • @rifleshooterchannel208
      @rifleshooterchannel208 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Gen 3s are the easiest to shoot by far.
      Gen 4’s stock trigger bar makes the trigger “clunky” but nowhere near as bad as the Gen 5’s setup where the trigger bar bares against the ambi slide stop assembly.
      Gen 5’s barrels have throats that are crazy short and require a complete new workup of handloads.
      Gen 5 has a great design feature with that “shelf” opposite of the extractor though. It keeps the empty casing from sliding down the breechface as the barrel is unlocking and basically mechanically guarantees that the ejector will solidly hit the empty upon extraction/ejection cycle so there is no more erratic ejection.
      Once they work out the quirks or fix the serious design flaw (mostly around how the trigger pin, trigger bar, and ambi slide stop assembly all interact) the Gen 5s will be great.

    • @damon323

      @@rifleshooterchannel208 Interesting, I didn’t find the stock trigger that bad. Design wise, I saw what you are talking about because I put a Overwatch Precision trigger in(just the shoe itself, no changes to the stock mechanical components.
      As far as ammo, I reload as well. I load my ammo at around 1.200 with zero problems, plunks and spins no problem. The tightest chamber I’ve ever encountered by far is the FN 509. Nothing above 1.115 will fit, at least with my Dillon dies.

      @@damon323 That’s really strange.
      I would say the 125 Sierra JHP is my worst offender and I had to jam it back to 1.045 from the book recommended 1.075 to make it work in a G48 and G19.5 MOS
      I have not used any non stock triggers or trigger parts but the stock Gen 5 triggers just felt downright weird compared to the other Gens and you could basically see the frames “bulge” around right side slide stop, which to me indicated some type of drag. Would like to try the Performance Trigger but none of the 5s are mine or else I would’ve dropped one in long ago.
