      el scientifico This man is a saint I tell you. I mean imagine moving in the circles of the average congressman or senator for so long and still not have given up. Those guys are the most evil corrupt whores that have ever walked this earth. Yet Sanders still keeps on. This isn't any ordinary man I tell you but a man with serious balls, intelligence and guts.

      David Watermeyer When Obama said he was going to change things everybody got excited but, nobody asked him how he was going to deal with a Congress that was bought and paid for by big business. I love what Bernie has to say but but but how does he plan to deal with a Congress that has been bought and paid for?

      el scientifico Absolutely! That is what I said too when I first saw the man, a real saint! But will these changes come down to Virginia, the capital of the old confederacy? This state is so bassackward, that I don't think it'll ever change, I wish I could move out to a more progressive place! I think this place is slowly killing me. I pray that Bernie becomes the president, no one else running or basically ever ran should deserve to be president of the USA! I will not deign to vote for anyone else.

    Guys... Socialism, as the name states, is Social, it means that People/Society/Nation come first, then the individual, it is the complete antithesis of Capitalism, where the individual comes first, then society.
    Bernie is a Democratic Socialist, which is basically the political view most common in Europe, which essentially means that he still believes in capitalism, but that capitalism must be controlled and regulated to serve the needs of the people, not just serve themselves at the cost of everything else.
    Now, I wonder, what is wrong with that?
    "Government of the people, by the people, for the people ..."

    Senator Sanders tells TRUTH backed by facts. Hopefully, we will see him in the future in debates. He has my vote. He has put his "platform" out on Utube for all to see and rebut, if they can. The more I see of him, the more I like him. He's got my vote and I would be happy to donate to his campaign!

      @arturotinoco604 9 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Same here. Unfortunately truth backs by facts doesn't really mean a lot today. Sooner than later, someone will accuse him of being misleading or just rambling. But it seems like he generally tells it like really is and should be talked about. That, I know I'm not the only one who feels the same. I really hope he runs just to keep the good issues relevant. That alone would be a service.

    • @gabegossett3537
      @gabegossett3537 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      In order to gain a clear and just idea of the design and end of government, let us suppose a small number of persons settled in some sequestered part of the earth, unconnected with the rest; they will then represent the first peopling of any country, or of the world. In this state of natural liberty, society will be their first thought. A thousand motives will excite them thereto; the strength of one man is so unequal to his wants, and his mind so unfitted for perpetual solitude, that he is soon obliged to seek assistance and relief of another, who in his turn requires the same. Four or five united would be able to raise a tolerable dwelling in the midst of a wilderness, but one man might labour out the common period of life without accomplishing any thing; when he had felled his timber he could not remove it, nor erect it after it was removed; hunger in the mean time would urge him to quit his work, and every different want would call him a different way. Disease, nay even misfortune, would be death; for, though neither might be mortal, yet either would disable him from living, and reduce him to a state in which he might rather be said to perish than to die.
      Thus necessity, like a gravitating power, would soon form our newly arrived emigrants into society, the reciprocal blessings of which would supersede, and render the obligations of law and government unnecessary while they remained perfectly just to each other; but as nothing but Heaven is impregnable to vice, it will unavoidably happen that in proportion as they surmount the first difficulties of emigration, which bound them together in a common cause, they will begin to relax in their duty and attachment to each other: and this remissness will point out the necessity of establishing some form of government to supply the defect of moral virtue.

      ***** Your comment has left me speechless!!!!!!!!!!!! I would normally call you a bad name but in this case, I have a sense that you are simply young and not informed. I would love for you to truly keep an open mind about what I am about to tell you.
      First of all Taxes are important. Why? Because we get services in return that make our lives easier. Taxes pay for public schools, police, firemen, military, medicare, roads, infrastructure etc. These are basic things that are granted to all Americans regardless of how much money we make. Everyone needs to pitch in so we can benefit from them.
      Second. Bernie Sanders doesn't just "give to the poor". Let me explain. Have you ever heard that expression "It takes money to make money"? Ok, so think about this, there are people in this country right now who want to make more money. But they can't because they are barely just getting by. Bernie is proposing services that allow the poor to have the opportunity to get out of poverty. Get it? He is proposing free college, so that a poor kid actually has the opportunity to get a better job and make a better life for himself.
      But most importantly Sanders is proposing fairness. Look kid, most of the ultra rich ruling class makes so much money by screwing you over. If you end up at the hospital and your health insurance doesn't want to pay for it, you are getting screwed. After all, you did give them money. Same with the banks, because you had to pay for your medical bill, now you owe the banks. Now the banks get to decide at what interest rate to charge you. These are just an example of greedy corporations that need to be regulated by the government. They need to stop screwing over people. Also because we have such powerful corporations in this country they literally bribe our politicians, and hence they control our government to a large extent (By the way Donald Trump has admitted to donating to politicians before) He is part of those who bribe our politicians. This is clearly a huge problem. Do you know what happened in 2008? Wall Street crashed. Why? In simple words, they were gambling with our money and lost. So that was a huge loss to our economy. And what happened? Well Wall Street bribed Politicians to pass a bill that would make the American Taxpayer pay for Wall Street's gambling. We literally Bailed them out. This is the very reason why they must pay their fare share, precisely for crashing our economy. That is what Bernie primarily wants to do.
      Also, I find it EXTREMELY ironic on your behalf that you mentioned JFK. Did you not know that JFK was a socialist? He didn't call himself one but he wanted to tax the wealthy (anyone who made more than $300,000 a year) 90%! He wanted to use that money to created programs to help the poor! Why did you think he was assassinated? He was a threat to rich and powerful. Just like Bernie is right now. I wouldn't be surprised if Bernie ends up dead because of this. You also mentioned Martin Luther King, who surprise was also a socialist! He believed in equality after all.
      Also, there has ALWAYS been war, poverty and political division. However, yes you are right the middle class has been declining since around the 80's. Wouldn't you suppose Ronald Reagan's tax cuts for the wealthy had anything to do with it? Don't you see our government since the Reagan era has been in support of the wealthy and the powerful. It is time to have a government that works for the average day Americans, don't you think?
      Here's a tip (Because you mentioned how you want someone who motivates people). It is precisely those types of politicians you want to avoid. They are usually the ones who just care about winning and surround their campaign around the idea of motivating people, filling their heads with patriotic rhetoric to distract from their real intentions. Why don't you instead, actually pay attention to their plan of action. How much do they know about economics? How much do they know about international trade? How much do they know about other countries? How do they feel about war? What will they do to improve education? What will do to make new jobs? Stop falling for the "image" trump represents. Because that's all he is. He is a marketing genius, but he is empty inside, he has no reasonable specific plans and no experience. How is it possible that anyone can support him and let him get one of the most important jobs in the world? Don't you think you should elect someone who cares about average day to day Americans? Do you seriously think Donald Trump actually cares about you? He doesn't want to be president because he cares about you. He wants to be president because the guy loves power! The guy loves attention. On the other hand, Bernie Sanders has a strong record in consistently supporting middle class Americans. Plus Bernie Sanders grew up in poverty so he can relate to struggling Americans. On the other hand, Donald Trump has no idea what it's like to be middle class. His father was a millionaire, he didn't make all that money on his own! This is not a rags to riches story! The guy lives in a completely different world than you. Its sad that poor people support someone who really has no empathy. It reminds me of peasants bowing down to the rich Kings.

    Speaking of trickle-down... It was David Stockman, Ronnie Raygun's (zap!) budget director, who invented the idea of, and coined the term "trickle-down economics". Back in the 90's the journalist David Frost (to the best of my recollection), conducted a long interview with David Stockman. I cannot find the interview, but I have no doubt it is on TH-cam somewhere. In the interview, Stockman describes telling Reagan about this new concept, "trickle-down economics" that he had come up with. Reagan was overjoyed and started talking about it in his speeches. It was Reagan's way to justify his own green-lighting of the economic rape of middle class America by the predatory rich. Then, in the interview, Stockman said that he later (a year later, as I recall) told Reagan that after further reflection, he realized that he was wrong about the idea of "trickle-down". Stockman told Reagan that it was an incorrect theory and that things don't actually work that way, but that Reagan had seized on the idea and clung to it for the rest of his time in office. I am amazed that "conservatives" still try to foist this idea on the American people. Personally, I find the term itself, let alone the core concept, offensive. To me, the term "trickle-down" conjures up the image of the Koch brothers pissing into a marble-filled funnel, the neck of which has been forcibly shoved down the throat of the American middle class and working class. It is obscene.

      The two wrongs wouldn't align to a right. If the billionaires' stolen wealth were confiscated, would it be returned to its rightful owners? Or just transferred to a larger number of smaller thieves? Sanders and his audience are clamoring for a systematic ideological disregard of private property. A far worse evil than billionaire property thefts.The guy isn’t going to be president, aside from being an avowed Socialist, is little known outside of the most liberal of circles. Sanders is 73 yrs old, by the time election comes around he'll be 75. In 8 yrs he'll be 83. This crazy old man is nothing more than a distraction. Even the Democrats know he's delusional! 160 hours a month (4x40 a week) at minimum wage (7.25) yields 1160 income, less 15% of tax in that bracket = 986. "Legal" studio apartment rent on outskirts of NYC costs 880(probably higher now), it's a box 40x40 ft, plus bathroom. How can a growing youth that just got out of college support him/her self and leave the family nest making that salary? get a better job? sure! McDonalds: you lack experience to become assistant manager that gets paid 9$/h and pretty much every one else says the same. Social slots are held unnecessarily long as well, youth can't progress at it's normal paste because they are artificially slowed down. With such salaries it's impossible to make and support children. There is going to be a major population decline in next generation, and than our descents will be forced to buy children from China and India.

    I wish someone could do something about "virtual outsourcing"...meaning software jobs....its not physical manufacturing plants...but 10's of thousands of jobs have been lost because companies send work to india and other places.. ANY job that gets outsourced should be looked at in regards to its impact here on employment and or unemployment.

    wow. From the perspective of someone living in Europe I can say the social and economic problems Sanders describes here do not only exist in the US alone. Some migrate from the US to my country, some just exist wherever there is a "western" free market capitalism economy/government model. The rich just get richer at the expense of the poor who compose 99% of the society by comparison (to the rich). anyone that for some reason falls behind is left behind. I would wish more politicians not just in the US but also in my own country (and worldwide) spoke critically out about the failings of capitalism and would not prepared to leave people behind any more.

But you define yourself. If you buy into the propaganda that he's too old just watch the way he casually walks though his speech with import, energy, and bold face emotion. This is the man every working class person in this country absolutely must vote for without reservation.

    It is unavoidable that income inequality and no well-paying jobs for the working people to destroy our economy sooner or later. Senator Sanders may be the only hope we have to stop this insanity while both parties have been taken over by imprudent billionaires who have no sense of history to realize that working people will rise against an economic system like this, most violently, when pushed without any limit. The same way FDR saved this nation once Sanders hopefully would save it from another generation of reckless and unemphatic few who have taken over the nation.

    It is capitalism that is the antithesis of a democracy. When people say capitalism they imply that it is 'free' and without strings, a 'free market' and so on...they really mean they they want the dividends to come in, without much thought about the rules of operation which congress sets. Capitalism is regulated by the rules politicians set.

      I have nothing against entrepreneurial spirit and free markets economics. This is what grows an economy and creates jobs. Even Scandinavia got rich through enterprise. Sweden was one of the poorest economies in Europe not so long ago. It innovated, became efficient and prospered. I have a problem with unregulated capitalism. This is what caused the economic crash of 2008 and put millions of Americans out of work. I also have a problem when wages of working people are not kept in line with rising costs of living and when Americans have to work two or three jobs just to make ends meet when corporations pay zero in taxes. This kind of free enterprise does the majority of a population. It creates what is know as a plutonomy-not a democracy. I am also of the view that education and healthcare are a human right and that corporations should not be in the business of making a profit off of sick people or allowing families to go bankrupt or lose their houses because they get sick. In short I am for social democracy i.e. what Bernie Sanders is for. Free enterprise that creates jobs for everyone with a social contract to protect the needs of everyone and the most vulnerable. And everyone still gets to live in freedom...

    • @paulheary
      @paulheary 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I appreciate your response. I also fully admit I am better at politics than economics. i don't have a finance or economics degree-and I wish I had. So in some respects I don't have the economic knowledge to come back at you. I do have an M.A. in International Studies and have studied American pharmaceutical companies and how they work. Can you answer me with a clean conscience that you think people who can't afford healthcare should be allowed die on the street because they can't afford to pay? In my opinion healthcare is a human right and it is unfathomable that America is the richest country in the world and 50 million people have no health insurance. Take a look at this link I discovered as part of my thesis www.cptech.org/ip/health/politics/revolvingdoor.html. You will see the revolving door between congress and the healthcare industry. At the end of the day I am not an expert but it seems that lobbyists in Washington get everything they want-including the ability to raise the price of health products and health insurance to whatever price they want whenever they want. This is really disgusting to me. Human life is priceless in my eyes. I really want to agree we are on the same side here. I really want to think I am trying to help. No other western developed country allows unregulated healthcare prices. I have looked at every other western country on this-Japan, Western Europe, Canada, Australia etc. It is clear that healthcare companies are out to make a profit and don't give a damn about the American public. I agree with you about the federal reserve as well but it seems part of the problem was the dissolution of the glass-steagall act in America. As Elizabeth Warren has claimed, when this was in place, people's savings were off limits to the banking industry and there were more protections. This period represented the most prosperous time in American economics, although there were more reasons for this than glass-steagal. So I don't think you can say everything is about interest rates. It seems like part of it was the fact that Wallstreet knew it could get access to customers money and they didn't care if they made a loss because they knew the government would bail them out. Who has bailed out people and families who have lost their homes? Who is caring for people who have no health insurance while these guys continue with their lives just as before? I am furious at all of this injustice. And I am not coming to you as some extreme socialist. I happen to be a catholic. There is a lot of connection between Ireland and America and I have a lot of Irish American friends. I just feel like you guys have really gotten screwed over the past 30 years and I would like to see the average American able to live in a little more security and social justice. And by the way don't even start me with Donald Trump. He claims to want to help America and he is not even for raising the minimum wage. How is that going to help working families? Not raising the minimum wage in line with costs of living and inflation in my country is illegal!

    I absolutely believe that public funding of elections is the single most important issue currently facing this country.
    Until the runaway train of cost for a national candidacy is brought completely under control, our government, and truly our economy and society, are going to be increasingly more owned by the wealthy. Not only the wealthy who are actually citizens of this country, but eventually any person wealthy enough to pay out of pocket for a candidate's "right to run."
    And who are these candidates beholden to then?

    there is no such thing as leaning more towards socialism. THE DEFINING CHARACTERISTICS OF SOCIALISM IS THE NATIONALIZATION OF INDUSTRIES - CAPITALISM IS DEFINED BY THE PREVALENCE OF A FREE MARKET. Scandinavian countries have freer markets than America - they cannot be socialist when the fundaments of their economy is based in capitalism. It isn’t a spectrum - socialism REQUIRES the nationalization of industries- capitalism demands a free market. Scandinavian countries do not fit the socialist framework- they are, as attested to by their prime ministers, NOT socialist countries. The administration of the Scandinavian countries have said plenty of times that they are NOT socialist. It’s very simple.
    There is no small “s” socialism - the Nordic countries are capitalist. The Scandinavian leaders have said several times that they are not socialist IN DIRECT RESPONSE to Bernie falsely claiming they are. He does not understand either capitalism, socialism or the Nordic model

    • @explosu
      @explosu 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +petro062 There is a difference, and it's qualitative, so isn't easy to pin down. Price gouging happens when competition for a resource outpaces its scarcity - it doesn't even necessarily need a monopoly, so long as any sort of resource is being fully utilized, you have the opportunity to manipulate the market, either in cooperation with other businesses or by exploiting under-served or cheaply dominated areas, as when someone exploits a lack of public transportation and places high price lines for their business in poorer neighborhoods. The real reason all those convenience stores in poorer areas have a market isn't luxury, it's that people literally might not have time in the day to do their shopping if they don't have a car.
      The solution is to either regulate for the sake of consumers, or keep pace with demand for a resource by increasing its production. Both has its place, both have consequences depending on what that resource is. Either way, I think a good place to draw the line between price gouging and profit is when one or both interventions can improve the situation and grow the economy past exploitation.

    The people who vilify Sanders for being a socialist should take a moment to understand that we have a socialist country on our northern border, Canada, our largest trading partner. Opponents of socialism use China as an example of socialism as an evil, forgetting about countries such as Denmark, Finland, Ireland, New Zealand and the Netherlands. China's brand of socialism scarcely fits the definition as it tramples the will of it's people. People are starting to wake up to the reality of unfettered capitalism and how in the end, ironically, our government has come to treat people as assets, trampling people just like China has done. GO BERNIE!

But whether for the very noticeable better or the very noticeable and tangible worse, is unknown to me. Never mind the rest. We need radicalism in a radical age. But which?

    An argument against legalized theft should not be construed as an argument against helping one's fellow man in need. Charity is a noble instinct; theft legal or illegal is despicable. Or, put another way: reaching into one's own pocket to assist his fellow man is noble and worthy of praise. Reaching into another person's pocket to assist one's fellow man is despicable and worthy of condemnation.
    For the Christians among us, socialism and the welfare state must be seen as sinful. When God gave Moses the commandment "Thou shalt not steal", I'm sure He didn't mean thou shalt not steal unless there's a majority vote. And, I'm sure that if you asked God if it's okay just being a recipient of stolen property, He would deem that a sin as well.

  • @4aSteadyStateEconomy
    @4aSteadyStateEconomy 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Unfortunately, even Mr. Sanders misses the core problem of economic growthism, which includes the tenet that the economy can/must grow indefinitely in a finite physical world. Wealth redistribution is only effective and pragmatic to a point. It mainly comes down to the artificial value of money and the depletion of natural resources, which money-growth depends on. Without fossil fuels (which are capital, not income) the global economy and population would never have gotten this large.
