    G'day mate. Love the Revo 3.3! I had one and want another one if i can find one. I've been a mechanic for over 25 years and been running and tuning 2 stroke/4 stroke nitro and gas for a long time. I can tell you that any engine when new is extremely tight and will get hot quickly. The Traxxas break in procedure is not long enough and you will need to be more mindful of engine heat. The reason your engine was cutting out is because it was getting hot and leaning out up high. The glow plug in a glow engine is kept alight during running by the internal combustion cycles NOT the electronics. It is only pilot lit during startup when you push the button. After that it stays alight on its own. And as your engine was slowly loosening up it requires less fuel to run as it's not as tight so the low became too rich affecting your idle. But because it's still a tight engine it was still getting hot while running. I would have leaned the low speed needle a touch and richened the high speed needle and taken it easier during break in. All the best mate and love your videos!

      Better to have it fuel flood than overheat from lean I would imagine, but also want to achieve the right Temps for the rings to wear properly, should use a heat gun for warmup I say.

    • @tylerblanchard2259
      @tylerblanchard2259 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Aswell he was awfully hard on that trigger for break in.

    • @jimbojones2457
      @jimbojones2457 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tylerblanchard2259 by having the low speed needle too rich causes people to compensate by leaning out the high which is a common mistake. Then they stab the throttle and as the engine rpm increases it leans out as the low speed needle has very little influence at mid to high rpm. That’s why it was getting hot under power. Both needles need to be correctly tuned. I agree with you he should have used a temp gun to monitor cylinder head temperature if he’s not well versed in nitro engine tuning and taken it easier on the throttle. Additionally I would have run it in on a sealed surface not grass to reduce engine load for the first few tanks at least.

    Just a friendly tip from one nitro head to another, to prime your engine cover exhaust with ur fine or pinch the pressure line and open fuel lid and just simply let it snap shut while still pinching pressure line. Usually only takes 2 or 3 times for my savage to prime

    Push the fuel cap down tight when refilling the tank. The issue lies with the tank seal. Imagine the fuel pump not pumping hard enough if the lid is leaking air in 😎👍

      @@Mike-tn3wc I have to correct my original comment. If the tank seal is not sealing cause dirt gets in there the exhaust will be visible leaking from the tank and there will be wet fuel accumulation on the top of the tank as well.
      I had this happen to me again just the other day and figured that was a better way to explain what may happen to look for. You’ll notice first the Rc get more powerful. That’s the point you want to check the lid 👍☺️

    Far as I know… The receiver only powers the radio system (steering, throttle/brake and forward/reverse shifting) and has nothing to do with the glow plug (that is powered by the starter battery when hooked up for starting when using the EZ start system.. I unhooked the glow plug power wire on my t maxx in favor to use a traditional glow plug driver/igniter.. since my maxx came with a trx2.5 silver head was always fussy/temperamental with that engine tuning it, power was ok just wouldn’t hold a tune no matter what hitting 350-420f temps and fried glow plugs while piston/sleeve was tight always used storage oil so she’s good… till I dropped in a trx3.3 with resonator pipe and hi flow air filter and omg! That engine is a good one but be careful I hurt the transmission somehow on mine (it’s all fixed now haven’t got her back out since late last year when she broke end of the season)… make sure your batteries including starter battery are well and freshly charged (break in needs a good 6 cell stick pack.. I use a 3300mah Nimh from radio shack that is very nice at $25-$30 plenty of power and a single cell LiPo powered igniter she starts up good like that)… I’d show my model as it’s stock looking with some good upgrades (wheelie bar with bearing wheels, spectrum dx4c radio, Savox waterproof steering, futaba forward/reverse shifter, radient throttle/brake, machined aluminum throttle mount, machined engine mount, resonator tuned pipe, air saver 3 stage high flow air filter, in line fuel filter, new lines, fuel line on brake cable swapped to rubber O-ring and hard plastic collars for better brake feel, full rechargeable 5 cell nimh receiver system with heavy duty inline charge harness, radio fail safe, on board temp monitor, and retuned second gear for a little bit earlier shifting)… and I do have an old RC10GT (has my maxx’s 2.5 engine and plastic pipe in it snd that thing MOVES and loves the engine.. 2.5 is much better suited for something smaller like that… maxx goes rn 43-48mph with wheelies just a throttle jab away 2.5 in it needed good goading and urgin… 2.5 in other car goes 55-65mph and will pull wheelies and blows tires off! It’s scary fast and I’m worried the transmission is gonna go out but so far she’s holding strong for last 2 years)

    receiver battery doesn't have anything to do with the start of the glow plug or how it runs. Its strictly your power for the two servos and / or lights. thats it.

    "im not sure" is spot on. 45 years nitro rc experience here. You are not good with nitro engines. This poor Revo. LEAN LEAN LEAN...cant you hear it (obviously no)? How about see it? Not nearly enough smoke, especially for a break in. I could hear LEAN from the other room on your first trigger pull. Yes convince yourself that the RX powers the Glow...and lean it up while you are at it. Hands in face.

I took out the opti drive and the battery last twice as long. You don't need the opti drive as long as you come to a full stop before you shift into reverse and full stop to shift forward. When you get it tuned just right, you can pull wheelies, and pop the front end up when it hits second. Awesome car. the motor is real nice too.

    Theres so much wrong with this video and i hope no one follows it! First, the receiver battery has absolutely nothing to do with how it was running. It actually sounds like it was leaning out due to excessively high temperatures, and re fired when it cooled down. Secondly and most importantly you never once allowed the engine to come up to temp before applying throttle, essentially significantly shortening the life of the engine. I highly suggest doing some research before breaking in any other engines. Also disturbing that you never pulled a temp from the engine.

      Dude, I've been running nitro models since I was 13 years old. I'm sixty now, and in all that time I've always followed the manufacturer's break-in procedure if they have one.
      I still have my first OS 61SF, it's 32 years old, runs like new. I have two helis with OS 55MAX HZ on tuned pipes in them.
      Got an Align 700 heli with an OS 91MAX HZ-R on tuned pipe that insanely strong. That's regulated in case you didn't know.
      Got an Align 600N Big Block heli, that's a 50 size bird, with a YS 91 on tuned pipe stuffed in it.
      And a 70" Extra 300s with a Saito 150 four stroke.
      That first OS 61SF? Was in my trainer, it's now in a Super Chipmunk with flaps & retracts.
      I can also read instructions...
      And I have a strong running TRX 3.3 after following this break-in procedure.
      I know what I'm doing...
