Really nice review! i think the Hybrid should be considered a very different vehicle from the gas-version. not only is it better in fuel economy but the performance upgrade with more hp and immediate torque from the EV portion is a huge upgrade! the safety/tech is borderline luxury level. well done Kia!

I've owned and driven Sportages for almost 10 years now ... a 2014 FWD and now a 2017 SX Turbo AWD. Super happy, best all around most value vehicles I've ever owned. They keep getting better and better and this new generation looks awesome ... might have to go for a 3peat! 🔥
Great review! I took my '13 Optima in to my local dealer for an oil change earlier this summer when I saw my first '23 Sportage. I didn't know I needed a new vehicle but it was love at first sight. I spent the rest of the summer researching the new Sportage and looking into dealers I wanted to work with. Finally in mid August I found the SXP (gas) that I wanted in the exact color with the exact options. I couldn't be happier. The dealer was wonderful, my trade in value was more than I expected (even with research), my insurance went down because of all the safety features and I have been enjoying my Sportage ever since. Ps. I love the new bigger size, I never would have considered the Sportage with it's previous size.
I just purchased a 2023 Kia Sportage SX-Prestige FWD yesterday. Where I live, there are usually no Sportages available for immediate delivery. I’ve been searching for Hybrids or something with good gas mileage for a couple of months. I needed something that could fit my Rollator walker. I had been renting a car for a couple of months, while trying to find something that met my needs. I was very fortunate to find one available on the lot. Long story short, someone had preordered this vehicle, waited for 2.5 months, and had just decided that they wanted a third row. The dealer, only 5.5 miles from my home, called me to say they had this, and I purchased it. I couldn’t be happier!!! I have no complaints. It rides so smoothly and has so many great features. I don’t mind using a cable for Apple CarPlay, and do not mind the the switchable climate control and audio toggle. And the rear storage compartment is so huge, it easily fits my Rollator walker with plenty of space to put much more in that space. Funny that your KBB review popped up today. I liked it so much, I subscribed to your channel , after watching the quick review. Thank you!!!

Been waiting for this review since the first drive! 😊But we just got our Sportage SX Prestige last week and it's been great so far. Since it wasn't the exact trim and color we were looking for though, we somehow got a pretty good deal with the dealer chopping off a chunk of the markup to "just" $2000 (still too much of course but definitely better than the $7000 for other Kia dealerships in our area) and a good deal on the maintenance package. That matte gray though looks amazing. If it were available on the gas model, we probably would've waited for it or gone looking around.
see a Kia dealer here in madison pulled the same stunt on me talking about 6 grand markup or "Market Ajustment" as they claim.. then slashed it only to 2k.. i now see it is a super deceptive sales tactic! and it is really making me second guess getting a kia!!!!!
Here in NJ Mazda is not adding any markups. Most dealers here and in PA sell the CX-5 and other Mazda models at MSRP. I got like $500 discount! I personally wouldn't go with a Korean manufacturer and pay a markup! Japanese cars still have an edge when it comes to reliability and durability and body structure even though Kia and Hyundai are good and smooth when brand new. Again its just my personal opinion, I went with the CX-5 Premium Plus over the Sportage and went with the MAZDA CX-9 over the Palisades and Telluride last year since they were both overpriced with $2-4K markup and long waiting time while the CX-9 was available and with a great offer (sick deal). I know the Palisades and Telluride have bigger trunk and little more space, but that's about it.
I agree, the Sportage and is' fraternal Hyundai twin are very good offerings across the board. It will be interesting to see how they stack against the new CRV in a comparison when it debuts later this year. You guys are great. Thanks Lynn!

Now, I really like this because it's kind of a signature look, meaning, when you drive down the road and see something like this, you kind of know instantly and exactly what it was." Yes, you do. The latest generation Hyundai Sonata.
Have been seeing these everywhere. We were on vacation a few weeks ago and saw three in one restaurant parking lot. But with all the issues I've been reading about and seeing on videos I would be very hesitant to buy a Kia.
The fact that you cannot get wireless Apple Carplay or Android auto on the higher trim with the larger screen is a HUGE swing & a miss for what is otherwise a really nice looking car. It wouldn't be that much of an issue if they also didn't force you to go to that higher trim to get certain features that competitors at least offer on their mid trim level.
We are not fans of wireless charging and no wireless CarPlay/Android Auto. If you're offering one, the other should go hand in hand. Thanks for your comment.
I've read that it has something to do with the different screens. The supplier of the larger screen hasn't advanced their software needed to support wireless Carplay/AA yet, apparently. Who knows if that's actually the case.
@@kbb Hi! Just my personal opinion is that wired Apple CarPlay is better sound/audio/music is higher quality when plugged in. Also if you never set up Bluetooth at all it’s actually nice to just unplug your phone and have no connection to your car at all. And if you have a popsocket wallet on your phone like I do, the wired charging works out better too.
Love KBB vids and your work. It’s funny to hear Americans speak about this KIA. “Sportage” or in the Canadian pronunciation, “Sport-agh” .. my 2020 KIA Optima has features BMW charge a ton extra for. Great cars
I love how she completely skipped the matte gray paint exclusively offered on the Hybrid and plug in hybrid. This paint color is offered for less than $600! Other manufacturesrs offer a similar pallet for over $2000. definitely worth mentioning. Great review though! 🤙🏽
06:11 unless I'm mistaken, Apple charges royalties (or whatever you call it) to car manufacturers for wired CarPlay installed in their vehicles and agreement for wireless cost even more? Doesn't BMW have the option for both but after three years, the wireless function is now annual subscription based? (Update: just found out BMW got rid of the annual subscription to use the wireless function awhile back so disregard that, sorry!)
Yes, Wes, Apple does charge royalties and those subscription services have gone for now, however, automakers are constantly toying with bringing them back or offering upgrades to UX systems, including paying more for additional horsepower or adding certain features with OTA updates. We're on the fence about these but are keen to see how customers respond to them. Thanks for the comment.
@@davidnguyen3275 yes it makes no sense to me. The lowest trim gets wireless for both Apple and Google but all trims above that one is wired only for both Apple and Google. AND those upper trims have wireless charging while the lowest trim does not. Again, makes no sense.
The wheelbase on the Sportage is very similar to that on the Santa Fe now, so it's comparable in size, meaning much more 2nd row room than the previous Sportage. That second row is a very comfortable place to be even for a tall person now. And great recline on the seats, just like the Santa Fe. Thanks for the question.
@@davidforman6909 It's bizarre that this review version didn't. I have a Sportage from a year ago and it has no wireless auto/car play. It's just annoying. I guess there's nothing they can do to update the system.
I wish you test the plug is hybrid model. I want to see if it act the same as santafe plug in. Because is Hyundai even in EV mode if you press the pedal little too hard it turn the engine on and never can use it as a true EV unlike Toyota Rave4 Prime. which is very inconvenient and a deal breaker. Is Kia the same?
@@kbb Why isn't wireless CarPlay and Android provided on the top trims? Why won't any car reviewer/blogger get a straight answer from Hyundai corporate? It's maddening that there isn't a public explanation for this.

potential companies to do business with, I would seriously debate doing business with Kia finance or any of their related companies. The various departments went out of their way, repeat out of their way to cause such inconvenience for me that it's nearly unspeakable. At the end of my lease I was provided options to purchase or return a vehicle but also had the option to exsend the lease up to 6 months while choosing to make a decision on a new purchase or lease. I simply wasn't ready yet. I was told I had the option to continue leasing my current vehicle for another 6 months with full coverage. The company accepted 2 months of advanced payments so I was covered at least until June 20th. I did this all Believing that I had my least extension however I've been receiving notices from a different apartment saying I was in default and needed to return the car immediately. After sorting through all the disputed information it turns out that regardless of how many people at the head of various departments told me that I was allowed to continue the least, the bylaws of the company do not allow the least to continue under the name of a deceased person. At the time of my lease it was more advantageous to have my father Under his credit than mine. My credit is great now. However because the lessor is no longer living, there is no transfer option there is purchase or return. They let me believe I was on a month to month I paid 2 months ahead I paid a full year's registration and repairs to the car , I might not have committed to doing all those things if the intention would have been to return the vehicle for a new one... I am now left with very little options That will see me right side up with a vehicle, other than buy the car. I'm in a position now where I must buy the vehicle, With the expenses already put in it's counter productive not too. But you can feel that I don't Really want to give that corporation any money. I'm almost willing to cut my nose off to spite my face just to not give them another penny however they will back end me to death with return charges so again I'm caught between a rock and a hard place. I got screwed royally and burned in the process to be dragged through the mud to have to re punish all of my father's documents to the deceased department just to be told That what I was originally told isn't true. I have no recourse.... So, KIA... what's next? My intent might be to buy the car now, but when I get around to paying for it is a whole different story.....
It is a clean looking auto but I just don't understand why they made it 7 inches longer which adds more weight yet they didn't add the Turbo Charger . Nearly 10 seconds now from 0 to 60 mph . I think this will affect the demand for this price point . And why does KIA advertise a mid locking differential when it in fact really doesn't have one ?
I'm not a fan of the busy styling. But once I sat in one at a dealer yesterday, I could look past that. I have long legs and my whole upper legs lay flat on the rear seat cushion!!! Not with my knees up off the seat like on most other cars and SUVs where the rear seat cushions are too low! The front passenger seat was 8-way in the model I sat in and it had a huge amount of range in different directions, whereas some manufacturers don't even give you the option of an 8-way passenger seat or if they do... it feels more like a 6-way. Driver seat very comfortable. HUUUUUUUGE cargo area!!! I would be worried about the huge LCD dash... will it malfunction? How much will it cost to replace after warranty??? And that rear bumper fake plastic metal trim looks cheap and fragile... don't get bumped.
Your comment is so understandable and relatable. Driving EVs will not suit every lifestyle that is certain. It will be incumbent on automakers and law makers to realize that using multiple fueling options remains necessary! Thanks for your comment.
I would be a bit wary of the turbo/hybrid combination. Will be interesting to see how it works out long term. Kia definitely has created a beautiful product though.
I will be in the market for a new vehicle in around 15 months and Kia will be up there for my Hybrid selection, look forward to hearing about their 2024 model next year 👍
I have gotten used to their climate/radio setup. And even in the beginning it only confused me a couple of times. I leave it on climate and control the music via the wheel.
Shifters are a plus especially if you're off-roading, which Kia advertises the Sportage as being capable of (moderately). We love that they kept them as well. Thanks for the comment.
KBB, one thing I need to ask on all these reviews, can I turn it off? Can I turn off all the suicide aides? The head on keep assist that veers you through a pot hole into a head on, or the radar cruise that slams on the break when you're 9 cars away, or the automatic tail gate for times when you want to stand in a down pour for what feels like an eternity to open the tailgate.. can all this crap be disabled?
For the most part, yes, you can turn off these systems and alerts. On some vehicles you can also set the sensitivity levels of them as well. It is all different from one manufacturer to another, however. Great question.
@@kbb thank you for replying.. I have been to Honda, vw, and Toyota and it seems at least based on the dealership information, I can't disable most of these features. Which is a bummer, since I don't want a stripped car, but I also need good visibility, and the engagement of being in control. Any recommendations for a car with 07 loaded features? Good visibility, leather, heated and cooled seat, sunroof, quiet smooth ride, but without all the filler that is just not needed? Something under 50k?
Greetings from southern Ontario Canada I just put down a deposit for the chevy blazer ev 2Lt $56600 CANADIAN no more trips to the gasoline stations it's arriving here a year from now rapidtide blue my favorite color
The previous Sportage's were most certainly 'blob-like' . . . this one looks great. Hmmmm however, I saw my first on in the sheet metal yesterday and the boomerang lights were on; they looked dorky to me.
It's really out there, and they made it bigger which I don't like. Also where is the turbo. I prefer the last generation and it's knock off Porsche Cayman looks. I do like the interior though
I lament that the Sportage has evolved from a scrappy little ladder frame subcompact 4x4, competing with the likes of the Suzuki Vitara and --- I know, a stretch --- the Nissan Xterra, to a car based unibody crossover, as if the world needs another one of those. I'm not saying the first generation Sportage in the 90s and early 2000s was a dependable, first tier vehicle. Then again, neither was any other Kia back then. But Kia has made a lot of strides with its entire vehicle lineup in the past 20 years, and I think itcould have done the same thing with the Sportage while keeping it a true 4x4 vehicle. As uncommon as those vehicles are at the low end of the market, I think there is both room and demand for what Wrangler used to be --- an affordable, function-over-form tool for farmers, hunters, modders and adventurers, available with a few accomodations for a modicom of safety and comfort. I believe there's a profitable market in the United States for a regrilled Mahindra Thar and the (return) of the Suzuki Jimny/Vitara/Grand Vitara. There are millions of Jeep lovers out there who can't swing $32,000 for a base Wrangler, but would bite for something made in the spirit of the original Jeep. Instead, just like about everything else in the market, the Sportage is just an overgrown, enclosed infotainment system with advanced traction control features. Ditto Mitsu, BTW. Long live the rally legend! RIP Mitsubishi in America. It's only a matter of time.
Some of us at KBB are of a similar mind, but, alas, most customers don't take these out and drive them in off-road scenarios. The Vitara and XL-7 are great examples of wonderfully capable and practical vehicles. Thank you for the comment!
We like small cars, too. Both the Seltos and the Niro cover off that smaller segment for Kia, so this move made sense to the overall lineup. Thanks for the comment!
We agree that the gas model can feel underpowered, but for someone with more of a budget the base model still comes with a lot of compelling standard features. Thanks for the comment!
Tech lovers would love the high tech interior of this car but the kia's engines are known to be trouble makers, laggy and slow and most importantly it burns a lot of oil.
What are you all thinking about the Sportage's bigger size? Do you think SUVs are getting too big in general?
No this is a great size
@@lee9576 It certainly fits a lot more stuff and the passenger space in the second row feels great.

2:17 --- "The other thing they're doing that helps is this --- what they're calling a 'boomerang headlight.' Now, I really like this because it's kind of a signature look, meaning, when you drive down the road and see something like this, you kind of know instantly and exactly what it was."
Yes, you do. The latest generation Hyundai Sonata.
Exactly the boomerang day time running lights is unique to the sportage. The Tucson drl is also used in the Santa Cruz so it isn't unique
Merry Christmas and happy New year
$40k top trim to get that matte black
Thanks KIA for giving us US market a longer wb version
What color is that grey? I only see a darker grey with that red interior...
Does it come with remote start?
Yes it does.
Nice review 👍
Love it! Everytime I see one on the road it's instantly recognizable.
Funny how SUVs tend to feel roomy when they stop cramming third row seats in them.
Right?
I would love to buy one but I still don’t trust Kia or Hyundai engines with all those recalls
Exactly.. I'm waiting a least a year or 2 for long term reviews.
Kia Sportage is the new Sorento. Huge!
Have been seeing these everywhere. We were on vacation a few weeks ago and saw three in one restaurant parking lot. But with all the issues I've been reading about and seeing on videos I would be very hesitant to buy a Kia.
How much is battery replacement cost?
excited for the 2023 CRV review, planning to buy one
i would be furious if i bought the '22 one
Especially when this comes standard on the mid-tier trims of the Tuscon!
@@christophereastwood3271 Good point
Love KBB vids and your work. It’s funny to hear Americans speak about this KIA. “Sportage” or in the Canadian pronunciation, “Sport-agh” .. my 2020 KIA Optima has features BMW charge a ton extra for. Great cars
We think the way you say it sounds much fancier so we might start! Thanks for the comment.
the new Sportage is SO nice
I love how she completely skipped the matte gray paint exclusively offered on the Hybrid and plug in hybrid. This paint color is offered for less than $600! Other manufacturesrs offer a similar pallet for over $2000. definitely worth mentioning. Great review though! 🤙🏽
Sometimes it's tough to call out everything, there's so much to say, but we appreciate the comment, thank you!
Fantastic video!
Did you manage to get through the review without an engine replacement?
We did! We should try to get a long-term one and test out the theory of the poor engine construction.
Then why lower trim gets wireless, and higher trim gets wired?
Again, makes no sense.
how does this compare in size to a santa fe? particularly 2nd row space
If the Telluride compares to the Palisade, and the Sportage to the Santa Fe, what does the Sorento line up with?
@@androidchannel309 it should be Sportage compares with the Hyundai Tucson and Kia Sorento compares with the Hyundai Santa Fe.
@@chuckers40 Yes, but KBB just replied above saying 'wheelbase on Sportage is very similar to Santa Fe'
I'm definitely getting this suv this summer.
@Kelley Blue Book Why this Sportage doesn't have wireless carplay but the Hyundai Tuscon does is utterly beyond me. Any ideas?
I just purchased and my Sportage has both Apply Car Play and Androids version
@@davidforman6909 It's bizarre that this review version didn't. I have a Sportage from a year ago and it has no wireless auto/car play. It's just annoying. I guess there's nothing they can do to update the system.
@@davidforman6909wireless??
I wish you test the plug is hybrid model. I want to see if it act the same as santafe plug in. Because is Hyundai even in EV mode if you press the pedal little too hard it turn the engine on and never can use it as a true EV unlike Toyota Rave4 Prime. which is very inconvenient and a deal breaker. Is Kia the same?
@Kelley Blue Book It has a wireless carplay & android auto
Very odd that there's no wireless carplay for Apple or Android. Was going to look at the hybrid SX Prestige but not without wireless.
It's a tough one especially with the wireless charging option. Thanks for the comment.
@@kbb Why isn't wireless CarPlay and Android provided on the top trims? Why won't any car reviewer/blogger get a straight answer from Hyundai corporate? It's maddening that there isn't a public explanation for this.
I've watched tons of Sportage 23 reviews
Almost all of them have this matte paint
When I went to buy the 24 model few days ago, they only had old boring metallic colors
I had to go with the silver sadly, since the other colors sucked
Thinking about getting a hybrid one in a couple of years as a retirement present to myself. Feedback is appreciated.
Such an amazing suv for the money
We definitely appreciate the value proposition the entire Hyundai motor group brings to the table. Thanks for the comment.
potential companies to do business with, I would seriously debate doing business with Kia finance or any of their related companies.
Very interesting, it may replace my 2019 Acura RDX A Specs, as Acura does not offer a hybride version...
Kia is definitely punching above their weight class and we could easily imagine cross shopping against a more premium segment with their products.
Kia Sportage coupe version will look great
Not available for Ford Territory and Nissan Kicks
I didn't hear an official rating on the Micah Musio squirrel rating for the elbow comfort.
We'll see if Micah's got an opinion on his squirrelly index coming soon! Stay tuned.
Do these come standard with burned out taillights?
No, they make them last long enough to drive them off the lot.
That is one sexy car! Love the color and design.
3.41 inch is significant she said
You did a fantastic thank you.
very dumb controls. that along with reserving the adaptive cruise control to the top trim makes this hard skip
Cool screen 👍
As long as they run on gas, I am in! 😊
Your comment is so understandable and relatable. Driving EVs will not suit every lifestyle that is certain. It will be incumbent on automakers and law makers to realize that using multiple fueling options remains necessary! Thanks for your comment.
yeah, not everyone lives in a big city.

I would be a bit wary of the turbo/hybrid combination. Will be interesting to see how it works out long term. Kia definitely has created a beautiful product though.

I have gotten used to their climate/radio setup. And even in the beginning it only confused me a couple of times. I leave it on climate and control the music via the wheel.
@Christopher Todd, I do the same and it’s just fine.
If it had wireless CarPlay and slightly better economy on the higher trim, I would’ve bought it.
I thought the Sportage was always in the compact range...tbh all the compact SUV/Crossovers should be considered Midsized by now.
We agree with you and state as much in the video. The Sportage is definitely playing in a different pool now! Thanks for the comment.
Great report! Selling very well in Canada, and much nicer than the Hyundai Tucson.
Sell a lot in Canada. I just purchased my second!
Glad they kept actual shifters. Hate the knobs/dial shifter trend going on
the hybrid and plugin hybrid both have the dial shifter but gas only version has traditional shifter
Shifters are a plus especially if you're off-roading, which Kia advertises the Sportage as being capable of (moderately). We love that they kept them as well. Thanks for the comment.
Looking forward to a comparo of the hybrids including the new CR-V and class leader RAV-4.

The previous Sportage's were most certainly 'blob-like' . . . this one looks great. Hmmmm however, I saw my first on in the sheet metal yesterday and the boomerang lights were on; they looked dorky to me.
I will buy it. Thank you.
Wireless apple carplay is rare. And hasn't been perfected in most vehicles, meaning it disconnects randomly. Wired apple carplay is better.
Why is it pronounced "Sportige" in the US. I suppose it's like "Jagwar" and "Neeeesan"
The saying is actually "Later is now"
It's really out there, and they made it bigger which I don't like. Also where is the turbo. I prefer the last generation and it's knock off Porsche Cayman looks. I do like the interior though
The American Kia Sportage is larger than the version sold in Europe and Latin America.
WHY, IN 2022, NOBODY USES THE VOLUME CONTROLS ON THE STEERING WHEEL??????????!!!!!!!!!
I’m tired of every new generation getting bigger and bigger. I like small cars.
Theres always Fiat
Look for a Suzuki Ignis... 🤭
We like small cars, too. Both the Seltos and the Niro cover off that smaller segment for Kia, so this move made sense to the overall lineup. Thanks for the comment!
Avoid the gas only model.
