  • The #Sportage is Kia’s longest-running American nameplate, arriving in the mid-1990s before compact SUVs were really even a thing. Well, as we all know, the #Kia brand has grown a lot since then, and so has the Sportage. So, let’s check out this 5th-gen Sportage, and see how much more it offers to reel in today’s savvy crossover buyers. #KiaSportage

    I would have loved getting the FWD version of the Hybrid, but I wanted all of the safety gear so ended up getting the AWD version.

  • @MrNodnarbius
    @MrNodnarbius ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Got an X-Line AWD a few months ago. I really like the look of it, even if the front end is a little funky. The inside is quite nice; the seats are super comfy. It has a ton of space compared to many of its competitors. The two displays for the cluster and infotainment are, obviously, pretty solid at sparking up a conversation. The suspension is soft and compliant, which is good for general daily use. The steering is also decent enough with a fairly heavy weight and direct enough feel. It's not a sports car, so don't expect much communication from the road. However, and this one is big, I CANNOT STAND THE TRANSMISSION!!! On the highway I constantly feel like the wind is changing direction; one second it's coming from my tail pushing me along, the next it's holding me back. It never knows what gear it wants to be in, and it can't seem to maintain speed if you throw a small incline at it. Otherwise, I think it's a pretty good vehicle. I'll be keeping my eyes open for the PHEV. I hope that solves the problems I have with it. BTW, this is after about 7000 miles of driving.

      how's the highway noise ?

    • @MrNodnarbius
      @MrNodnarbius ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MattGarcyaDC Obviously, without the right instruments, it's hard to judge accurately. However, it does allow comfortable conversation at highway speed. Exceeding a certain MPH will start to generate a lot of noise and vibration from the tires. I suspect an upgrade would solve this issue. Compared to other recent vehicles I've had, it's competitive, if not a little better. If you have the chance, take one for a test drive.

    • @Sekkzc
      @Sekkzc ปีที่แล้ว

      how’s it been reliability wise? i’ve heard not so good things so far. i’ve also been hearing that they’ve been shaking when going over 50-70mph. what’s your experience been like? would you recommend?

    • @MrNodnarbius
      @MrNodnarbius ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Sekkzc I have not experienced any issues with reliability. Nearly 10,000 miles so far. There is a slight, I would say, vibration at certain speeds on the highway. It was initially very noticeable, but less so after having driven it. I think some of it could be attributed to tire break-in. I would recommend it for basic transportation, but nothing much beyond that. It's comfortable on the inside, and it looks sporty on the outside. Fit and finish seems to be quite good as well. It really depends on what you're looking for. I'm not sure I'd buy another one, but I would resign to the junk heap either.

    I like that they lowered the dash for this one, and added back seat room, while removing the previous dragonfly face. You do risk engine oil loss and electrical problems, hopefully improved over the last 10 years. Change the engine oil every 4 thousand miles for the non-hybrid, every 6 thousand miles for the hybrid.

    I have a 2023 Kia Sportage EX FWD gas-powered version, sans the sunroof. I much prefer that trim level. I stayed at $29,400 and change doing so. Sorry, but I'm still not sold on hybrids. I still question the ease and cost of maintenance down the road and, frankly, I simply didn't feel a need for it given my driving habits. Yeah,the base engine isn't the best, but it does the job and does so in good comfort. I'm shocked at how many people are spending the 36K SX Prestige. No thanks. I rented a 2021 Honda CR-V and I did not like the auto off engine and did not see how to keep it “OFF” also my seat would always adjust when getting back in the suv. That part really bothered me. Plus when in Cruise control it changed without me doing anything which I found puzzling. I had to just drive sometimes because I was worried I was getting too close to trucks. Any tips for the auto off engine feature? Besides those complaints it’s really great on Gas for sure.

    • @ouis-xv3vp
      @ouis-xv3vp ปีที่แล้ว

      @@malstarrainbow The auto on/ feature is not great when it comes to engine wear and longevity. 90% of engine wear occurs when you start the vehicle and there is no oil in the top of the engine block the auto on/off feature turns off the oil pump and deprives oil from removing heat and maintain parts well oil. As for a way to shutoff the auto on \off I don’t know off a permanent fix but it will involve a high tech scan tool to reprogram the ECU because it involves software that Honda doesn’t give information on how shutoff the engine auto on/off feature sorry.
