    Hey Ross, I know what you mean when you say know they will want to recore it. Sadly all of the old radiator shops arond my area are gone. Where they had the talent to actually fix a radiator problem. And would work quickly and inexpensively. Now every one of them just want to "recore" it. I even took a radiator for a D14 to one shop, had to leave it before they would even take a minute to look at it and give me their opinion of it. Then several days later called and said it needed a new core. I said no, and Id pick it up. Then when I did, just as a courtesy, I asked if I owed them anything. I was kinda joking, but they said $25 would cover it! I know they maybe spent about a minute and 30 seconds on it. Sadly thats the way things are now. I ended up buying a Chineseum aftermarket one for it. 😢

      I prefer to only recore a radiator/cooler. If they are leaking in on place they are probably thin all over.

      I would love to buy a new one of these, but they just don’t make them. And sometimes I think they really milk you on the recoring job. Those old timers really knew how to fix stuff and make it last without spending a ton of money but nowadays people don’t have that kind of patience to do those type of repairs. Guess it’s a lost art.

    My oil cooler and radiator went to the shop today. Hopefully hear from them soon. Will it be cheap? Probably not. Tractor isn.t any good without them though. That's how I look at it anyway. Pay up or have a paper weight. What are you going to do? Right? Hope yours can be fixed inexpensively. Pretty expensive hobby we have.

      Yup. Sometimes you gotta have the part to make it work so you just gotta bite the bullet and spend the money. 😭😭😭

    Is Mighty Whitey a girl or a boy? You referred to it both ways. Where are the lower grill pieces that are supposed to keep trash from poking up into the lower cooler area? One of those 180 radiator leaks caused me GREAT GRIEF. After pulling all of the stuff off to get to the part where I could raise the top hood I saw the problem. The hood bolt had rubbed a hole in the top of the radiator tank. So I got out my little torch, some flux, and laid in a a layer of solder, one to patch the hole and two to make a wear barrier. When I got back to the shop, I made out the ticket and filled out a warranty claim. When the claim bounced back the reason it was rejected was that the tractor was a Canadian tractor., The tractor was owned by a "religious sect" based mainly in Canada and it was self-imported. Rather than getting into an argument with the owner I just decided to eat the repair. At least I fixed the upper tank hole instead of replacing the whole radiator as we could have done under warranty which would have been a big bite to swallow when the warranty claim was denied. Warranty claims were always looked at by White with the idea of refusing them. So one had to write them with quite a bit of "English" built in. Include every nut, bolt, and tiny part such as hose clamps. Also if you found a problem with another item while fixing the original problem, write it up and a separate ticket and file it a week or two later like you had to do it a separate and later problem. Was that right? I felt not as the warranty parts had no profit built in, we had paid freight to get them to the dealership, and the factory labor rate was always a year or two behind our local shop rate. BTW, our service rep suggested even better ways to break even on repairs.

      Interesting story! I know most of those companies back then did not like to do warranty work and a lot of dealers got burned. And you should know by now that in this day and age you can’t assume gender! I’m just trying to be equal by calling it both ways 🤣

      One quickly learned to game the system to justify the time spent over a flat rate on the first time repairing the unit. @@rosstheoliverman

    Hi Ross just a thought that maybe when you take the oil cooler in to get it fixed you could ask them if it was possible to change the direction of those first two hose ends so it would be a lot easier to hook your hoses up and then you would not need that big ugly loop of hose. Thanks Wayne

    • @rosstheoliverman
      @rosstheoliverman  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I thought about seeing if they could put some type of different end on it but I think I’m just gonna leave it as is. I thought about maybe bending up a piece of tube and using that so I only had a short end of hose connecting it, but we’ll see.

      It definitely does a good job. It’s surprising for a simple piece of plastic.

    Such a delicate part with an ultra-important function. It would be interesting to see how oil coolers and radiators are made. No place to get impatient and create a "whoops" that would render the unit unrepairable. I've had a couple tractor and combine radiators that were junk as the tubes were rotted and not repairable.

    • @rosstheoliverman
      @rosstheoliverman  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, it’s a definitely a delicate process. I tried to repair some myself and just never can get it right.

    Good video Ross. That cooler looks a ton better now. You did a nice job on it. I can see why they cost so much to fix. Thanks for sharing.
