  • The seat rubbers on my 66 were shot, and I am tired of sitting so low in the operator's position. They're not too complicated, and all of the parts are available from Korves Oliver.

That repair was easier than most we did. As you well know, sometimes those seat repairs would have your swear jar able to put Abby thru Harvard and Graduate school. Oliver did have the best seats.

If I remember right. Are old Oliver 88 had grease zerks drilled and tapped into the shackles.

Simple design and gives a good ride where’s that kind of engineering nowadays? Oliver built some great tractors 👍

But I remember a couple of times when you would get bounced up, then come back down hard on the metal seat as as it is coming up.

When they are back to their original condition they really do give a great ride compared to a coil spring and shock many used.

This takes me back. We had a 77 with this typography seat that I cultivated with. When you hit a bump the seat would jump a tooth & youd be sitting crooked. A pry bar fixed it until the next time. Love the videos!

Many years ago, I changed those rubber torsion springs in the seat of my 77 and it was such a bear getting it apart that I swore I'd never do it again. Then, as you said, Korves came out with the entire seat spring mechanism as one piece, and now I replaced that on my 77, Super 88, and my recently purchased 66. Mine were, as you said, pretty whipped, so it made sense. They are good seats with the rubber is good. Thanks for the video. That did seem to go pretty easy for you.

I did that on labor day, and I was figuring it would be a labor. Sometimes a guy gets lucky.

I found your channel resently. Love the Oliver history. My brother had time on two digit models. I used 880 gas, 1850 gas, and 1950 Detroit before we got out of farming. Thanks

My family had an Oliver dealership in southern Michigan. We closed back in 1998, and i don't have any parts for sale. A good place to get Oliver parts is Maibach tractor. You can call them at (330) 939-4192. They ship all over. Another one is Korves Oliver at (618) 939-6681. They ship as well.

I'm curious, with all the years of experience fixing Oliver's, you must have a few really odd ball fix it stories. Example, I had a 1850d where the hydro power oil would disappear and ended up in the engine oil. No visible leaks, no clues, a real head scratcher. Turned out the cooler line and the dipstic both rubbed holes in each other. When the tractor was running the oil got sucked into the engine. Found it by sticking something between the lines and just like that, oil poured onto the ground. Crazy

I have a similar one to that. I think it was a 2-105, and the 3 speed cooler line wore through the dipstick tube. It even had a respectable seal. It made us scratch our heads trying to figure out how the 3 speed oil was ending up in the engine.

I sold those White front tractor weights at a Consignment auction to the highest bidder so someone will put them to good use the end

I’ve did that 3 times now on 2 different seats. Years ago I got a set of torsion springs from a place called Minnkoda. That set still looks new. They are no longer in business and the last 2 sets I’ve bought don’t last very long. This new stuff is a joke.

      Love the old stuff Jeff.

    • @ThatOliverGuyChris
      @ThatOliverGuyChris  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

The foreign stuff was crap. I put on one set that should last a long time, because even under my weight, those rubbers wouldn't budge. These are made in the USA, so hopefully they will hold up better.

In it's day that would have been top notch comfort for all day in the seat and still looks good enough for tractors of today. No cup holder but that is ok. Enjoyed this video bro. Safe travels

Throw that cushion on there, and it's really not that bad of a ride. Maybe I can turn a cylinder storage bracket into a cup holder.

Thanks for the vid! This will help a lot of people when they go at this project. From my experience, the holes are normally oblonged where I have to drill the holes oversize 😄 That's just my luck

You made it look easy Chris. I would have smacked my hand with the hammer from missing the punch. Nice kit with everything needed to do the repair. It wouldn’t be a repair if you didn’t forget something!

    • @ThatOliverGuyChris

Probably not. I just spent a bunch of time wet sanding and buffing to bring the old paint back to life. It looks quite a bit better now.

Good job Chris, simple and effective, like how it works. Sometimes, or maybe that's most of the time, the earlier designs were a better, less complicated way to get the job done. Thanks for sharing, have a wonderful Friday and weekend ahead.

I don’t know how you done it with out needing a swear jar. I fought with my 77 for a couple of hours and finally had to get a second set of hands to hold everything in place and slid together only to realize I put them on backwards

Good job, one our S-77 I used a bump stop from a traction bar instead of the stock bump stop. A traction bar bump stop is a little taller and doesn't allow the seat to sink as far when you hit a bump, which I like better.

Good idea. I'm sure over extending is what finishes them off.
