This is the best information on making your own radius dish on a youtube and I guess all the internet. Thank you, I have all the equipment but just had no idea where to start..

Very nice - thanks for sharing. If I try it, I think I'll hook a power drill to a string belt, so that the disk spins on its own...

i guess to get the angle for the sled you would use the distance from edge of blank to centre for the length, and how deep you wanted to go at the centre of dish would be the difference in height from the start/edge to the end of sled (when cutter reaches centre) maybe

How cool is that? Nice job, Chris!

This was a unique way of making a dish. Thanks for the video. Is there anywhere I can get plans or formula for making the jig. I am trying to teach a guitar building course in a drug rehab program. I need quite a fews dishes. Any help would be further appreciated. Thanks very much

This looks all straightforward, now I've seen it. I want to have a go at making my own dish too. You skip over one critical point though. You say that the sled runners aren't curved but straight - but how do you calculate the angles of the bottom of the sled? That seems a critical element in this whole jig. Can you either tell us or make an addendum to the video or give us a link to where you worked it out please?

@chrispaulick Just wanted to say thanks for the tutorials. I've watched a lot of video's as of late as i'm starting my luthier career, and have to say I like yours the most. It always amazes me how giving people can be with information, it certainly makes it easier for those who want to get into the trade. I'm afraid there isn't enough words allowed here to express my thanks enough.

you could add a small grove around the outside of the plate before you start radiusing, and use a small motor and belt/pully to turn the plate as you slowly advance the router. could go into business making these things. haha!

Where can I find more info on calculating the long compass rails? If I understand it correctly, it's like drawing a radius but you actually "draw" it with the router :)

What is a radius dish for? Could it be for doing a soundboard laminating process?

@kd0afk I really haven't made any dishes for sale. What is the radius you are looking for? If I were to sale any they would be $100 for a back to back set without a finish plus shipping.

Beats me since I don't know what a cone skimmer is. But if you can machine it with a router you can cut a dish from it. I'm not to sure this method is safe for acrylic. I'd want something that would clamp it down .

The dust collector takes care of the small nasty dust and has a .5 micron filter but it's never a bad idea to wear a respirator especially with MDF as well as wood and one that filters a micron. Dust of any kind isn't your buddy.

It turns on it own by the routing. once you begin to cut..
